Why do some people insist on walking down the middle of the parking lot lanes? It makes it difficult for cars to drive down the lanes looking for parking spots not to mention that it could be dangerous. They make the lane wide enough that you can walk to either side without fear of being run over.—Frustrated Parker

Because lots of HRM are obese, and it stops them rubbing roadsalt from cars onto their rolls.
This is a very valid bitch! These same people who walk down the middle of the parking lot lanes are probably also the first to ask “WHY DID THIS HAPPEN???!!???” when someone makes their ass a hood ornament.
A nice toot of the horn works. And if a toot won’t work just let it honk until the fuckers move.
The same bitch could apply to those who walk down the middle of sidewalks and stand in the middle of escalators. Standing/walking to the side allows quicker people behind one the option to pass one’s slower ass.
yes…applies to my pedway woes….move the fuck over…
Escalator? Get serious…
Except that walking too close to the cars on either side just makes you a target for the idiots who are backing out of their space while not paying attention.
I have a bigger problem with drivers who drive too fast in parking lots than with people walking in the middle of the lanes. If OP drives at the appropriate speed in the first place they shouldn’t have to worry about hitting anyone… right?
I walk down the center of parking lot lanes to avoid getting creamed by people not paying attention and backing out. People approaching from the front or back can just deal with it.
Walter
Walter = dick.
stick to the side and… oooh, I dunno, LOOK for people ready to back out and don’t just willingly dive in front of them.
you wouldn’t walk on the road just in case someone was backing out of their driveway….
A parking lot isn’t a road…
it’s made for the cars to travel … they can’t shimmy and scootch by like a person can.
get the fuck out of the middle of the god damn thing. what makes you so self-entitled that no-one can get by because you don’t want to pay attention?
Shrug,
It’s the people who are not paying attention while reversing their vehicles that I am watching for. Not the other way around zZz, despite appearances I am quite attentive. Like I said – the motorists moving through the parking lot can just deal with it. We’re not talking about pedestrians in roadways here where I usually concede the right of way to vehicles, but a parking lot where I am more than happy to let a motorist stare at my bumper and seethe.
Walter
I usually walk in the middle until a car approaches…then I move to the side to let them by.
personally, I think we need to create ‘sidewalks’ between the car spots so that people have a ‘lane’ to walk in. sure it would cost more because you would need cinder blocks or something for the idiots who put the car in drive instead of reverse so that people don’t get sandwiched… but then they wouldn’t be in the way… it’s only 4 feet I’m askin for…. and it’s usually taken up by the ped’s anyways. ‘course more money != viable alternative so I’m basically just rambling here now….
Exactly Miles, that’s how it’s done. I doubt anyone who walks in the middle would refuse to move aside when a car comes. Unless they don’t hear the car, those hybrids are sneaky!
A parking lot is meant for pedestrians AND drivers not just drivers. (You see, people often park their cars in a parking lot so that eventually they can get OUT of their cars, kapeesh?) There are no sidewalks, so both parties have to be cautious and wary of one another. It’s not just up to the pedestrians to be safe. Drivers have to do their part by DRIVING SLOW, and if they are doing so, they should have to worry so much about running someone over of being slowed down.
This bitch is just a product of an impatient driver
*shouldn’t
lol
I still say that if we segregated the two there would be less mishaps.
something like this:
car | w | car
car | a | car
car | l | car
car | k | car
Hows about:
walk | c | walk
walk | a | walk
walk | r | walk
shit, that didn’t work LOL
Decent idea zZz, but how many mishaps are there to begin with? It might be a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.
zZz your suggsestion is fine and dandy, but you just know the cyclists would be on the WALK section and the spandex arsed joggers would ignore ANY traffic flow instructions until they were splatted.
