To the girls who moved in above:
I’ve seen you. You aren’t very large. So why the hell does it sound like there are elephants walking around up there?!? Do you ever rest? I realize you may be busy unpacking but holy shit.. sit down once in a while or at LEAST after midnight. You’re driving me crazy!!! Stomp stomp stomp stomp stomp… I can freakin FEEL you walking!

Ack. I feel for you, OP. Two apartments ago, I was in the same situation. It didn’t get better once they unpacked. 🙁
Did somebody say bone spur or was that planter fasciitis?
Some people are just stompy, such as my roommate, who is also not fat. I’m glad no one lives in our basement.
I seriously think some people don’t know how to walk properly. It’s like they put all their weight on their heels or something.
man i am so glad i no longer live in an apartment, worse years of my life.
i live on the top floor of a three story building. and you know what, the assholes in the basement are louder when doing anything, than the guy next door to me.jesus people, show some respect or restraint will ya.
I’ve had several roommates who clomped around like lumberjacks, and they weren’t fat either. It’s tough to say anything, because they’ve probably been doing it their whole lives and doubtless have any idea they’re even doing it.
Hopefully they’ll quiet down when they get settled.
Well did you go upstairs and talk to them? Ever thought it could be what the building is made of? Cement floors will carry the smallest of sounds. So before going spouting off, try a little bit of investigation.
Yeah. like Bro Tim suggests, just go upstairs and inquire, “I live below you and couldn’t help but notice that you trudge around like a cro-magnon. If it’s not a big deal, would you mind changing the walking habits that you’ve been developing your entire life? Thanks.” Simple. Problem solved.
And because the OP mentioned that the girls just moved in, I’m assuming that this isn’t the first time there’s been people living above them. I think constant thumping regardless of who’s living there would be a pretty obvious sign that it’s the building, not the people.
“I live below you and couldn’t help but notice that you trudge around like a cro-magnon. “
mrman…I just LMAO.
It is true though- that the smaller people seem to make the most noise! I was shocked to learn that the elephant above me was a 5 foot nothing teeny girl.
I’m 6′ tall, 225lbs. My ex was 5’3″, 125lbs. She walked ten times louder than I do! I am very concientious about not stomping around when I walk. I think it comes from growing up in a really old house with squeaky/loud floorboards. My mom used to yell at my sister and I for “stomping around the house like a herd of elephants”, so I learned to tread very lightly. If the noise doesn’t let up OP, start knocking on the ceiling every time they take a step. Make them feel like they weigh 1000lbs!
I like to trudge… used to drive the parents crazy when I’d walk through the kitchen and all the stuff would be rattling and clanging….
now though, I’m much quieter… like an extra-sleuth-y ninja.
