yesterday i went to my regular pub, and went downstair to watch football as usual with my regular special and stout. then this other waitress came to asked if i was done. i went upstairs to the loo, she followed me, and then kept on waiting for me like i was going to run off without paying. hell, i am a regular there, and the other waitress knows me by sight.
this is ridiculous. not my regular pub anymore, i ‘m going elsewhere where the waitress doesn’t stalk you.

  1. If I were a regular there, as you say you are, then do the right thing. Talk to the management and get things straightened out. Maybe this person is new to the game and heard horror stories of people taking off without paying or whatever. But if management doesn’t know they can’t act. Leaving a place you like a lot because of a ditzy server, without explaination, is pretty juvenile.

  2. Hmmm, maybe pay for the stout when she served you. Then she wouldn’t have to follow you to the bathroom. Gross!

  3. Pumped up to the max eh? Big surprise if it’s the pub I’m thinking of. In my experience, horrible service there and the food is for the most part terrible. Haven’t been there for years but I heard they got rid of the peanuts which was it’s only redeeming quality.

  4. sounds like a place I’m thinking of…. used to be one of my all time favorites. Never been the same since they got rid of the peanuts.

  5. No more peanuts??? Fuck that!!! That pub was always overrated in my books, 700 types of beer on tap, 695 of those beers are flat and stale from sitting too long. But I digress, that building historically WAS a brothel, maybe the waitress was just trying to be nostalgic? BTW, TTFN…you freakin’ rock!

  6. Everytime I’ve been served a beer in ANY establishment in the city, I’ve paid for it immediately. Even before I take that first frothy sip.

OP you should have paid for your drink before acting as if their pub is your home. Regular or not, they’re a business; not a buddy with a keg.

  7. Uh, I don’t think you’re expected to pay for your beer the second it hits the table in a restaurant. In a bar, yes. A restaurant/pub, no. Servers probably hate you, NGF.

  8. Bars are just licensed establishments – much like any ‘pub’ or restaurant that has the papers allowing them to serve alcohol.

Being served a beer is a lot different than being served a soft drink.

Servers probably hate me? You should see their eyes light up when I personally hand them a lovely tip!

  9. PS: Being a “regular” only means that you’re seen at the establishment often and that maybe a few servers know your ‘name’.

In no way does it elevate your status or mean that staff are to give you preferential treatment because “you are there often (or regularly)”.

Alcohol legislation and regulation is in a classification on its own. Like I said, its a lot different to crack open a beer and pour it compared to pumping fountain pop over ice.
