  1. Excellent post! Unfortunately airhead women buy into this hype in droves and lay guilt trips on their poor sob partners for it. I’m a woman and I barely remember our anniversary date (which amuses my husband). The first time he bought me roses for Vday I said thank you, but don’t do it again please and I promise you I won’t embarrass you at the office by sending you edible underoos :).

  2. I’ve always had the no-roses-for-valentines rule. Ridiculous waste of $50. And I’d much, much prefer some small thing given with thought for the recipient, at some non-specific, unpredetermined time as an “I was thinking of you and want you to know I appreciate you” non-occasion. (Sign me, Another Uncommercialized Chick)

  3. The corporate world doesn’t create this from thin air. If people themselves weren’t so greedy and consumeristic, this phenomenon would not exist. Don’t blame retailers for just giving people what they want.
