I’ll say this about the Confederate flag. When you think of what it represented, the Southern states in the American Civil war and what the Civil War was about in part, the abolition of slavery, I could see it as quite offensive.
The South fought to retain slavery. SLAVERY. Their flag represents a severe marginalization of certain people. Is that different from the Swaztika? No.
The current popularity of this flag has to do with rebellion and some misguided notion of being “good ol boy” but, if one was a descendant of a slave, it’s about the dehumanization of your ancestors.
I think it’s a crying shame that in this day and age such a contentious symbol of divisiveness and institutionalized hate is still allowed to adorn the hood of the General Lee. When, oh when is Sheriff Roscoe going to give those Duke boys the lesson in civics that they so desperately need.

Actually, Toon, the South fought to secede from the American union, not to retain slavery, at least not directly. Lincoln was quite clear on the point. It was not slavery itself but rather the rejection of the secession of the Confederacy which was the principal issue. The agricultural South saw itself in decline compared to the industrial North and saw secession as its only hope of economic survival. Of course, its agriculture was based on cotton which, in turn, was based on slavery but there is a case to be made for the “stars and bars” Confederate flag as not simply representing racism but rather a nostalgic look back to an idyllic rural past. “Gone with the Wind,” and all that.

Asking all the dumbest questions, sharing too much personal information, butting into people’s personal lives, she even told one of my other co workers that she should give her boyfriend an ultimatum to marry her, because that’s how she got married.
