So our Metro Transit offers most of our colleges and universities a student u-pass – pay once for eight to ten months of unlimited bus service. NSCC is on board, Dal has signed on again, but our university says they didn’t have time to ask the student body about the new fee structure, and as a result we don’t know what the fuck is going on, again.
This is getting to be a trend on this sad little campus – to not tell the student body ANYTHING. Truth is, Metro Transit announced the new fee structure back in April, but that’s not enough notice for the university to get their act together and just make a decision. We want the U-pass, so just sign up for it all ready. —Me again

There was no such thing when I was a Dalhousie student and yet all managed just fine on the buses.
…I don’t know if this is related to SMU or not (though I’m guessing it is), but last I heard, we are in fact getting the U-Pass. As of four days ago. This bitch is outdated.

When I was a student I hated the Upass. It was an automatic $150 fee on top of our tuition.
Didn’t matter that I had a car, never took the bus, had no bus service in my community anyway, and already paid $150 for a university parking pass.

The U-Pass is now a sticker (at least at some schools) that goes on your school ID. So it’s harder to take advantage of it, I guess.

Which leads me to ask: why the HELL is MSVU still open and operating? Close it and syphon off its programs to other universities already!
I don’t know which is worse, I pay for a bus pass I can’t use because I don’t live there anymore and the student union refuses to refund the money. lol
The Student Union president was playing politics and pretending he could save some students a few bucks.
He’ll be a Dipper or Liberal and enter politics, they usually do.
Compulsory Student Union fees should be abolished, they just encourage petty politicking on subjects few students care about.
oh boo fucking hoo.. i gave up $2,000 for a fucking bus pass i *NEVER USED ONCE* in 5 yrs at university. lick my nuts. not only did i NOT live on a bus route (to which they suggested I DRIVE !!! ), not only did my dad (who is faculty) drive me everyday, i saved like a good girl and bought my own transportation for my own personal use. so FUCK.YOU. want a bus pass? fucking BUY ONE, i shouldn’t have to contribute. wipe your nose, you little shit.

By your logic the U pass cost $400/yr, which is CRAP. The U-pass has always been around $125-130-ish since its inception in halifax (I think I’ve only ever paid $115 for it for the past three years or so).

The U-Pass is useful for students that can’t afford a car and can’t afford to pay an assload of money every month to buy a bus pass. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be reimbursed if you aren’t using it, but I definitely don’t think it’s worthless and it’s obviously a huge help to students.
The U-Pass program is a cost saving for the majority and those who do not use it supplement the cost for those who do. This is reality and similar to taxpayers without children having their money go toward schools and sports programs. We all contribute toward our own society. Those who do not see this must be inhaling bus fumes.

Well the u-pass is going to get a lot more useful to a lot more people because one of the universities downtown is going to start denying parking passes to those who live within a certain distance to the school. That way those who would otherwise drive a short distance will be encouraged to either walk (fat chance — those who drive short distances, probably aren’t going to walk, lol) or take the bus.
Update: The U-pass has been approved and they are now being issued at the Library. Finally.
