I am amazed and disgusted by the number of cats on the flower streets in Dartmouth that roam around trying to find shelter. They have owners and they have homes. Their owners don’t let them inside and don’t care. One cat in particular had a collar, lives in a big beautiful home (per the address on the collar) and another lives across the street. Outside at 4 a.m., on my deck, all hours. It’s heart breaking! I feel if there wasn’t a law regarding this for children these morons would let their babies roam the streets all hours too! MORONS! You try being homeless and living on the streets. LAWS NEED TO CHANGE REGARDING PETS! –Meowerrr

How dare you call anyone a moron after saying something so silly. You’re an insane crazy cat person, since you’re over the darkside anyhow check yourself into the ol’ psycho clinic while you’re there. Just because a bunch of stray cats decide to go all discovery channel in a city and you happened to find a cat with a collar by a house does not mean there’s a secret society of people who buy cats just to leave them to the mercy of a bunch of horny strays to be gang raped and have the kittens starve while they watch from their big picture window.
My cat often wanders around at all hours of the night in the summer. She likes to play with moths.
I am torn on this issue. I do think outdoor cats should be let in during bad weather. But on a warm summer evening – if they want to roam – fine, they are animals after all. Just keep the shed open a crack and a bowl of water out there. Sounds like the neighbours here aren’t doing even that, which is a no in my books.
That said – I don’t see what laws will do about it. They are overburdened enough with the stray cat problem and we really don’t need more picky laws. Why not give them a lecture, or bring their cat over to their house/ go over to let them know their cat is loose at 4am when you hear it out in a storm? A few middle of the night wake ups MIGHT shake their head.
animals outside??!?!? how outrageous?!!? i shudder to think how any animal EVER made it out in the wild at any time in the history of the animal kingdom. those poor lions. oh the leopards too?!? animals can figure out how to survive. whether indoors or out. they get more exercise value while being outside. i hope they poop in your garden and yak hairballs on your porch OB.
Eh. The life expectancy of an outdoor cat is A LOT lower than an indoor-only cat.
I used to let my cats out (way back in the day), but after injuries and deaths that could have been avoided if they had’ve been inside, I have a strict ‘indoor only’ policy. It’s just more humane.
FERAL CATS
“They have owners and they have homes. The owners don’t let them in inside and don’t care.” Meoweerrr
Feral cats like this kill tens of thousands of birds each year, that is, after they slowly torture them to death. Feral cats know how to do one thing well. That is how to slowly kill birds.
The solution is simple. Feral cats without identifying collars should be euthanized immediately. Those feral cats with an identifying collar should be euthanized immediately and their owners should then fined $1000 (for a first offense).
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
i take it then, that you have not had a chance to visit spryfield then?
by the way, hello again m.m.
They’re cats, they are designed for the outside, same with every animal. And it is very presumptuous for the OB saying the owners aren’t letting them in, maybe the cat hasn’t gone home yet and wants to shag a few companions.
the worst thing about a cat (or dog) being left outside without a safe place is their inability to sleep properly. they have to be constantly alert because anything can get at them.
just look at a or dog inside their own home, with their own people. flipped over, paws in the air, belly exposed and sawing logs. that cannot happen outside.
can you imagine your life if you could never get a secure night’s sleep?
and domestic animals have lost the ability to create a den under a tree, which is what the ‘wild’ animals do. or sleep in packs with one or two on guard. humans too, were ‘designed for the outside’. you think we were created with drywall coming out of our asses? but we don’t do too well lost in the forest anymore do we?
speaking of animals left outside – pls pass the prod around to get anyone you know who leaves a dog out 24/7 to at least let the poor bugger in the basement overnight with this storm coming.
This bitch comes as a result of the lack of mental health services…
^^^^Speaking of mental health issues, NS is supplying. Mic Mac translator, a counsellor, and a fucking eagle feather for when Andre Denny goes on trial, this is bizarre.
Does that mean the G@l#r clan might get their sentences overturned because nobody was available who could translate “Edjumacated” into “South Mountainese”
Andre Denny is a victim of the mental health system. The mental health system that was supposed to be taking care of him, let him down. Now a man is dead and Andre Denny is being made an escape goat for those working in the mental health system who were not doing they’re job.
^^ it’s scape goat and their job. Please press 1 for fuck off
The cat with the collar that you speak of, if he’s the one I know, orange male tabby, is Axl. He’s a sweet old fella. Give him some treats and a pat next time you see him. He’s been roaming the neighbor hood for years!
HECTOR’S STORY
My wife and I got Hector at the SPCA on Quinpool Road and brought him back to our place on Cambridge Street the first year we were married. He was a a marvellous cat, more like a dog. I remember when I went up Jubilee, crossed Oxford and up to a corner store on Preston, he would follow along with his tail straight up. The same on the return trip. Outside of work – my wife was a nurse at the Convalescent Hospital on University next to the fire station and I was finishing at Dal, he was our constant companion. But I was a Europhile ever since an earlier family trip to England and had to get back. I got a job teaching English to advanced adults at the British Institute of Rome (L’Instituto Britannnico di Roma”) where graduates received the coveted Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English. However, we had to leave Hector with my wife’s mother’s place on Glendale Road.
We were a year in Rome. Getting there wasn’t easy as I did not fly at that time. This meant taking the train from Halifax to Montreal where we boarded the “Ivernia” for Le Havre, caught the boat train to Paris, then the Rome Express from the Gare de Lyon to Stazzione Termini in central Rome. While Rome was beautiful I realized that I didn’t want to spend my life teaching ESL and we returned from Naples directly to Halifax on the “Queen Frederika”. Hector was gone.
We learned that shortly after leaving him he had disappeared for two weeks and returned looking very bedraggled. We were pretty sure he had returned to Cambridge Street looking for us but we were no longer there. After a brief time on Glendale Road my wife’s brother took him to the Halifax Dockyards where he was working. Shortly after that he disappeared again. We think he returned once more to Cambridge Street but we never found out one way or the other. We never saw him again.
So I suppose you could say Hector was a “feral cat” (see 04/07, 2:59PM) but he was very special to us. We would never have let him out but unfortunately we weren’t in Halifax when it mattered. Even now this wrings my heart. I’m tearing up as I write about it.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
P.S. Hello Sucks! Welcome back!
Might as well declare Denny NCR right now, save the cost of a trial and inevitable protest blockades of the Trans-Canada, Canso Causeway, and Via Rail tracks. He can do the sweat lodge, the sweetgrass, the drum circle, the sentencing circle, the circle jerk…., and hope like hell he doesn’t kill again. Because as we all know, the stigma of mental illness is so much harder to bear than having to bury a loved one who never should have been killed in the first place. And until we get a system that doesn’t treat the victims of mental illness as criminals – but still manages to exert enough control over them that they take their meds, do their therapy, avoid destructive lifestyle habits and lay off murdering people…Oh Fuck it! – This argument is such bullshit I can’t even finish the sentence.
The only interesting aspect to this case is predicting which side the Proglodytes at The Coast will take. Now that’s going to be some epic lefty angst. Expect to see the Fark catchphrase “Intersectionality of Oppression” repeated ad fucking nauseum.*

Are you talking to me?
I had new neighbours move in a couple of years ago, the woman is a nurse at the children’s hospital and works shifts, her 2 brothers live with her, to say they’re odd is putting it mildly. They have 4 cats and a dog, the woman gets home from her shift at 3 am and lets the yappy fucker out, no leash, free to roam. The cats are rarely in the house, I took a video of three of the cats roaming and then huddling on her top step, but left outside during last winters snowstorm and showed it to her, her response, she shrugged, blamed the 2 brothers and shut the door in my face.
The city are useless and SPCA ditto.
You’ve got to stop shouting on street corners. And close your fly.
Sundays supper consists of sausages bought at Delish in Tantallon, pork and leek, beer with a splash of Roses lime cordial, and a salad.
The cats approve.
t bone steaks. mushrooms stuffed with onions, garlic, smoked chicken, cheesed and broiled. corn on the cob with slaverings (sp intentional) of butter. tomatoes with fresh basil and balsamic and a great big jug of my sangria.
and I have tomorrow off!
Life expectancy goes from 15 years to 5.
I guess they don’t really care about the cats at all.
domestic all the way
