Why are you all so rude? They don’t pay me enough to put up with your attitude. If there’s an empty counter with a black screen and you’re dumb enough to stand at it for ten minutes, don’t bitch at me because I didn’t tell you there was no one there. Honestly, it’s bad enough that I spend my weekends working 8 hour shifts for minimum wage, but when I need to argue with dumb customers who strongly believe they can get an item on sale because they found it somewhat close to a sale sticker, I get really frustrated. Perhaps sometimes I can get a little short, but it’s not my fucking problem that you don’t have your receipt but you want your Air Miles on your chocolate bar that you “probably bought sometime last week”. YOU try being a student and working MY shift. See how long you last. —Living the Hard Cashier Life

Ask your boss what they are paying you to do? I’ll bet that smiling and being polite to customers will be part of the answer. I know its hard at times, but remember ‘STAY’ Stop Thinking its About You
Sounds like a typical student whine of ‘I’m too good for this job’ – well, OP, if you were really smart and viewed the big picture instead of the tiny ones you’re spouting off about, you’d see that this kind of employment experience teaches you skills in dealing with the public, an asset for many employers.
Shut up and take my money like a good minimum wage bitch.
PS; don’t put my fucking bread on the bottom of a bag and pile shit on top of it.
Let me quote red foreman on this one:
A-hem.
Who told you work was supposed to be easy or fun? If it was fun, it wouldn’t be called work. It would be called “super happy crazy fun time”
Work sucks. I’m a professional. It still sucks when you’re in the big(ger) leagues because you’re responsible for more and more lands on your head if you don’t meet those responsibilities. People suck. Coworkers suck. Customers (we call them “clients”) suck. Paying taxes sucks. Overtime sucks.
Stop acting like you’re hard done by. You’re getting a reality check. Don’t worry. Eventually you die.
You work at Wally World, don’t you.
There is no way I could ever be a ‘front’ person, I’d go postal in a week.
OB – get a job in a kitchen, or housekeeping, etc…. somewhere you don’t have to deal with the public.
All the commenters so far sound like self righteous assholes who’ve probably never had to serve the public. Typical book smart people who make money but are absolute idiots when it comes to manners. The Bitcher is fully justified in venting.
Just because your fancy suit job is stressful doesn’t mean you can take it out on min. wage workers, like they should “suck it up and smile like they’re paid to.”
You don’t have to smile wide and ask them about their day, but if you want them to be friendly and helpful, you should do the same. Too bad your parents never taught you people respect.
“Just because your fancy suit job is stressful doesn’t mean you can take it out on min. wage workers, like they should ‘suck it up and smile like they’re paid to.'”
And just because min. wage jobs are stressful doesn’t mean you uneducated kids can take it out on us educated suit people with more money and real jobs. Plus none of the bithers were taking anything out on the OB.
When you work in retail you’re being paid enough to put up with shit. Get used to the real world, you stupid fucking kids.
putting up with shit is a fundamental requirement of employement. it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do.
I am so fucking glad that I don’t deal with the general public anymore. 😀
One of these days I need to write a crazy long bitch about all of teh stupid I encountered over the last three years. Some of it’s pretty entertaining. 🙂
Working weekends…..right there that’s a deal killer. OP, quit and get a Monday to Friday salary job.
People can be jerks. At a coffee place a used to work, we had a special reserved extra bitter brew for certain rude customers. Meanies beware, don’t tick off the people trying to help you.
🙂
