One big American chain is about to take over N.S. stores from a long time Canadian chain. The tits-up Canadian chain’s employees think they should have the first crack at the American chain jobs. The worst whiners of the lot are the Cape Breton arseholes with a sense of entitlement a mile wide. What pisses me off about this scenario is how they perpetuate Nova Scotia’s ‘loser culture’ image. —Apply Like Anyone Else, Boneheads

Thing *is* they’re not even taking over the chain — they’re taking over the leaseholds, which means they’re taking over their buildings/locations.
They’re in no way obligated to hire the canadian store’s employees because essentially the cdn store is shutting down locations and another chain is coming in.
Well, they are losing their jobs and jobs with similar pay and duties are coming from the new chain, so it makes sense that they feel they should get the first crack… should they? I don’t care. They can steal a minimum wage retail job from me any day they want.
Zellers was recently picked as the chain store with the worst customer service in Canada. My kid worked there for a year – it was a fucking nightmare for her because of all the slackers – I haven’t shopped there in the last couple of years for the same reason. So why in the fuck should Target hire a bunch of lazy wankers?
does target have a restaurant?
or are they just closing that down too?
I don’t recall the last time I was in there though…
has to be 4-5 years. Walmart really seemed to eat them whole.
Accccccctually, after yesterday’s experience, I’d give that award, personally, to Walmart.
I was looking at a duvet and I took it off the shelf to see if I could unzip it and feel the material (I couldn’t) so I was all “ah well” and went to put it back and before I could put it back on the shelf I got accosted by this old fuck associate who YELLED at me “HAY! CAN I HELP YOU?” in a snitty ass accusatory tone, and I was all “nope, I’m good, thanks” and he actually started yelling “WHAT ARE YOU DOING? HUH? HUH?” and I said to him “looking at a duvet?” and he kept hovering and pretended her was doing something to keep an eye on me… when I wasn’t even doing anything.
So I said, so he could hear “better not upset the walmart police. must be tough making minimum wage and having such a big job of making sure customers don’t take anything off the shelves!” and left.
Asshole. I could’ve said a lot more, but it wasn’t worth it. I’d probably be a miserable fuck too if the only thing I had to look forward to in my geriatric years was a promotion from walmart greeter to associate/police of the bed and bath section of a walmart complete with 5 cent raise.
I wouldn’t venture into a WallyWorld if it was the only consumer outlet in the city……… there is a reason ‘The People of Walmart’ is so popular ……. omg, it’s like a playground for the people who take the 80 bus!
except for a visit to the outside garden centre last sping…I haven’t been in a Wally’s since…the previous spring, also the outside garden market…they bring in these really nice clay pots made in Vietnam, Cambodia ,Indonesia & they are really nice.
THE EVEN BIGGER PLUS IMO..is they aren’t made in China & if I could buy them anywhere else I would.
Other than that I do not shop in wallyworld
trying to eat properly & shop for goods that are not china made is damn hard , frustratingly so.
I work at walmart PK and FYI we have a problem with people stealing shit left and right. Yeah…..you might have been innocently looking at that duvet, but for all that guy knew you were a 25ish30 something year old shop lifter with a duvet fetish.
I don’t work at walmart. I lied about that. I did work as a theft prevention specialist at a large retail mall for a few years so I do have experience with theft prevention and the training that goes into it.
No I don’t. That was a lie too.
I thought I read somewhere that Target intends to hire more staff that is currently in the Zeller stores so if they are worth their salt I would figure they may get hired, the Walking Dead members good chance they Need Not Apply.
you forget o.p., that the ones working i these stores and chains, will be nova scotians. they will not bring in u.s. workers to fill the jobs here.same as we don’t send our people to fill jobs in the states. take emera for example, people from here, but the cash flows out.same as those stateside, cash flows into us. it’s a give and take, unfortunately, most cash has been going out. but that is because u.s. business laws are more strict.
Oh zilla, you sexy beast! Everytime you post I end up having to change my panties (read into that what you will).
And where the fuck would i stash a duvet to sneak it out? I got mo rolls than a bakery, but they ain’t THAT huge!
Yeah but you might have been hiding a bunch of products in the duvet, you sneaky lil lady!
if the employees are getting paid severence, then they are being laid off. If they aren’t getting severance, then someone owes them severance or a job.
i avoid shopping at those stores but i sometimes go to costo with me ma and pa and buy pistachio nuts and dog beds
zilla, admittedly, someone who manages to succesfully shoplift a friggin DUVET would almost deserve it. Almost. Those things ain’t small and subtle. May as well try shoplifting a minifridge.
For some (even if an urban legend, I know) shoplifting REALLY doesn’t pay.

ow.
Wal Mart *smh* I try to limit my time there.
“theft prevention specialist” a security guard?
Lolz
Ah Zellers. I love it there! It’s so peaceful and quiet, nobody around including store clerks. Loads of room in the aisles. PK would have no problem shoplifting a duvet there.
Omgggg PG — i found the most amazing kitty condo basket at costco — it had a little house on the bottom and a basket on top. I didn’t buy it when I saw it and when i went back, they were all gone. Just as well, though because oscar would’ve gotten his fat butt stuck in the little hut part… Or the top wouldn’t’ve been able to sustain his massive mass of fur and fat. Lollz!
I completely agree with you OP, and as pretty pointed out, it’s not a takeover. Zellers is selling its leases–that U.S. retailer is not taking over the stores.
To me, it’s like if you own a building where you run a hardware store, then sell it to someone who wants to open a frozen yogurt shop. Should they hire Al the paint mixer cause he’s always worked there? I don’t think it makes any difference because they’re in a similar line of business. Why should you be bound to some other company’s hiring decisions?
What really bugs me, though, is that people think Zellers is somehow ‘Canadian.’ Zellers is owned by Hudson’s Bay Co. (HBC). Since 2006, HBC has been owned by American companies, most recently NRDC Equity. They own the Lord & Taylor department store chain. But you can’t gin up some good ol’ fashioned anti-American hate with a headline that says “Big U.S. retailer sells leases to other Big U.S. retailer.”
I can’t wait for Super Target! Right across the street. Fuck you Zellers, I’d love to say it’s been swell – but you were a blight on our retail landscape, and if the only thing you have going for you is that you are “Canadian” – the fact that HBC, an american owned company, owns you settles that argument pretty quickly. Whether you have a little maple leaf on your logo or not.
This is my third attempt to comment on this. Why does a bitcher get to say “Cape Breton Arseholes”, I comment twice, and the comment doesn’t get posted? Well, here goes again: Who/what area of NS (and research has shown this) gets more “entitlements” per capita from the federal government? Looks like the stereotyper here thinks Cape Breton. But guess who, Einstein? Yup. HRM. Think that over the next time you’re at a big box store and assume there is truth in some generational, ingrained stereotype espoused in centre-periphery ‘diffusion’ BS.
