Turning left off Quinpool onto Oxford during the night time, for some reason pisses people off tremendously. Waiting for oncoming traffic to go by took all of 5 seconds, which during someone goes flying around me in their car at like 70km/h, and the next person goes by honking at me.

There’s NOTHING wrong with turning left during this time, why do people get so agressive? This has been happeneing to me at many spots, especially going off North onto Oxford.

Calm, there’s no need for aggressive driving in the city. —Pete

  1. “This has been happening to me at many spots”-Check your blinkers, are they all working? or learn how to drive, slow turners are fucking annoying.

  2. Yea man. Consider the people coming behind you. Pull to the near centre line, put your blinker on, leave room for people wanting to pass, and take all the bloody time you want.
Learn how to drive, too, you maroon.

  3. Ihate the people that are at a red light. Your behind them. little turns green and when you think your about to go. They put their blinker on to turn left and your stuck behind them. Light turns green again.

  4. Calm the fuck down people. It’s actually illegal to pass someone on the right even if they are “holding” you up so they can make a left hand turn.

  5. hey pete, next time, make sure the ass end of your car is a little further out, get the picture.

  6. Fuck’em, as long as you’re respecting the law and the rules of the road. More and more, Halifax drivers have their head up their ass. Let’em honk and send a silent prayer to your deity you aren’t them.

  7. BRoc – check your motor vehicle act again. It’s perfectly legal to pass a left turning vehicle on the right if the lane width is adequate and if you can safely move over without infringing on vehicles coming up behind you.

I beat an HPD ticket for this exact manoever in’ 06 as the crown had to withdraw the charge after I walked in with the appropriate section of the NS MVA.

Also, you can technically pass a right turning driver on the left provided you don’t cross a yellow line into oncoming lanes or cut off vehicles coming up behind you.

  8. So, what happens if I don’t leave ya enough room? Are you gonna cry into your steering wheel? Point is, calm down out there and wait. It won’t hurt. I promise.

  9. The Quinpool/Oxford intersection is a little tight for left turning vehicles, so people going straight thru don’t always get enough room to go by. But fuck them, anyway.

Speaking of asshole drivers, I watched some clown honk and yell and generally freak out at Monastery and Quinpool because the car in front of him turning onto quinpool was taking too long. I stopped mid-cross and yelled ‘what the fuck do you want her to do? run over the people walking in front her, asshole?’ You get the picture.

  10. I think they should just make that a no turn down quinpool and oxford.
I try to avoid that whole intersection as much as possible.

“little turns green and when you think your about to go. They put their blinker on to turn left” why the fuck do people do that? it enrages me… simply because they KNEW they were turning but didn’t let anyone else know. that’s fucking selfish driving and only pricks do that.

shame there are so many of them…

  11. VOR I agree that if there are two lanes and a vehicle is turning left you can safely merge to the right lane and pass the left tuning vehicle as stated in the MVA(c) in the event vehicles on a street or highway are moving in two or more substantially continuous lines, clauses (a) and (b) shall not be considered as prohibiting the vehicles in one such line overtaking or passing the vehicles in another such line either upon the right or the left, nor shall clauses (a) and (b) be construed to prohibit a driver overtaking and passing upon the right another vehicle which is making or about to make a left turn. R.S., c. 293, s. 114. BUT!!! if a vehicle is in a single lane and turning left a vehicle cannot ride on the shoulder or cross over the solid yellow or white line to pass a left turning vehicle on the right nor infringe upon the safe movement of that vehicle. Really people just suck it up and wait two seconds!!! Is it really going to kill you?

Congrats VOR on having your ticket revoked over redundant improperly written clauses.

  12. mewshady – one of my arguments was that motorcycles, scooters and bicycles pass left (or right) turning vehicles quite frequently. Now if they are suppose to follow the same rules as larger vehicles…

Showing up in court with photos depicting more than enough room for a car to travel straight through alongside the turning vehicles also helped. No crossing solid lines nor driving over a bike lane, just using the extra 7′ of width that stretch of roadway had.

  13. Depends if cars are parking on the street…it makes it difficult to pass in these cases. Parking should be banned on Quinpool.
