OP – i assume you mean driving with the high beams on at night?
On several occasions over the past few years I have flicked my high beams to indicate to the oncoming car that their high beams are on then they turned there high beams on. Wow, I think I have seen airplanes with dimmer lights. Some cars vehicles have exceptionally bright lights. My point is that some of these vehicles might not be using there high beams. I do not like those blueish lights on cars and trucks, those are nasty. I bet they work well though.
yeah Scott, the blueish lights you refer to are Xenon ( arch discharge or H.I.D as they are also known ). They are the real deal on cars like BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and now found on some upper end family cars like Nissan and some up scale SUV’s. They Basically use the light given off by an arch of electricity to cast of light as opposed to “normal” headlights that rely on a filament coil. Its like driving by the light of a welders torch. Its the 95 honda civic driving around with blue light bulbs to get this “look” that drive me crazy!
Speaking for myself, I have glaucoma with problems with depth perception at night.. I bought the most expensive headlights I could find, as I do not wish to be a danger on the road to other travellers..I DON’T use high beams hardly at all, as they aren’t reallynecessary, unless I’m on a backwoods country road where the road is winding, and there are no streetlights..But without the more efficient bulbs, I have a very hard time driving at night, and as a musician, I’ve stopped taking jobs out of the city at night for that very reason. So bite me… LOL
so it’s okay for the rest of us to be blinded so that you can see better? maybe you shouldn’t be driving at night at all. just sayin.
Ah… Xenon lights, otherwise known as the bright bluish beams of the bourgeoisie… irritating as hell, but the riceboy Canadian Tire blue-tinted replacement halogen bulbs are even worse.
Exploding pupils are no laughing matter, nor the price of their replacements. Canadian Tire has such a fucking limited selection and the installation should not be done by their auto mechanics. Those halogen nightmares owe me big time.
I’ve been bitching about this forever! I can’t stand those bright ass lights. You do not need lights that bright. I NEVER use my highbeams, except to flick em on at the douche that thinks I have mine on. I drive a truck, the headlights are higher than in a tiny car. Also, when you’re on the HIGHWAY turn off the high beams!!! People don’t seem to realize when you’re on a divided highway, the lights from the cars going the opposite way still shine right in your eyes.
