The office across the hall from me is empty.
The light has been on in it for at least eight months.
On constantly for eight months.
I have looked and looked for the switch.
Other people have helped me look.
But there isn’t one.
How is this possible?

  1. Maybe the light is a metaphor for kay’s genius ideas and points she thinks she’s making on message boards. You know, since her head is rather empty that bulb had to lighten up somewhere.

  2. doesn’t have a switch? why that’s truly odd…
how was the last guy in there supposed to bang the cleaning lady?
    in the LIGHT? pawwwfffffff

I’d say, if it’s a bulb, throw a fish at it.
phosphorescent, meh, throw the fish anyways.

  3. Um if it’s an office building, you could do something like – Inform maintenence or building management and report it.

  4. Hahaha I’m in love with this bitch. I was all “wow! It’s totally a legitimate bitch for once, that would drive me crazy!” And then I read the comments and I was all “Oh yea. . . the light bulb. . . “

  5. i know start the room on fire with a molotov cocktail; then the sprinklers will come on and the light will short circuit itself;voila ; sometimes you just have to think outside the box:)

  6. yeah,i wouls say it’s on the main panel, there isn’t much you can do about it, but watch it burn out, that can be fun though.

  7. The solution is quite obvious. Do some “target practice” on the power lines outside. Not only will the light not bother you, you get time off work due to the outage. If you don’t have a gun handy, use a beat-up car and hit the pole.

  8. just read a headline : consumer electronics show … THE FUTURE IS WIRELESS! no shit well that certainly is a shock who could have seen that coming?

  9. Removing the light bulb won’t stop the power from running. If you have a a lamp plugged in and switched on, but remove the bulb, the electricity is still running. Hence why if you put the bulb back in, it will light up right away… BECAUSE IS IT ON!

    geniuses.

  10. /////52252513 I was thinking about that. . but then I started thinking about wall outlets. . . power is always running through them as well, no? They just don’t “use” that power unless there is something there that “needs” it? I don’t know. I know nothing about electricity haha. I’m thinking way too much about this bitch.

  11. I’m with tresorla on this one. Without a load of some sort, an output, there is no current. Nothing happens, it’s latent.

  12. -This depends on the appliance. Something like a lamp with the switch turned off (or bulb missing{a hazard}) does not use power. TV’s DVD’s etc all have circuits that are powered when “turned off” These circuits power the infrared receiver that allows you to turn them on from the remote. The amount of power used varies between appliances. The top items are anything that uses a remote, has a light or clock or charges something.-

  13. go balls…

or has a little red light to indicate it’s off.

but yeah, lamps etc.. that don’t have anything to complete the current won’t draw any power. don’t worry though, your tv, dvd player, ps3/360/wii will consume enough to make up for it.

  14. So strange . . . so hauntingly poetic . . . so mysterious . . .

    Almost haiku-like in it’s evocative simplicity . . .

I will search for this lonely light in the darkness . . .

  15. As for the appliances and electronics . To save power they say to put them on a power bar and turn the bar off . They use power even when off .

  16. ah, it’s poetry time is it?

    stupid god damn light
    incessantly mocking me
    watch out for the fish!

    chucked the mackerel
    sparks flying across the room
    darkness envelops.

  17. I’m a lighting tech.
One of the things we’re taught/need to know when we use generators to power our lighting equipment…is how to balance the load on each leg.
If there are 10,000 watt lamps hooked up & there’s no bulb in the lamp….there will be no load, even if the lamp is on.
This has nothing to do with electronics…its just a fuckin’ light !
///52525…. your my vote for dumbest reply ever award !

Why do we not have a catagory system for posters ~;) ….I want the prick asshole award !

  18. THere’s a theatre in New Brunswick that we get a reading of 13 watts from the neutral to the ground 😉
There’s got to be a short somewhere 🙂

I think it was already pointed out that tripping a breaker, will take out more than just one wall plug or ceiling fixture.
