Radio alert: “stay off the roads, unless it’s an absolute emergency.” I guess coming to the mall just to look around and waste my time, is an “absolute emergency”? Those of you who dare take your kids out, risk your lives on the terrible non-plowed roads and highways, just to kill time in the mall should be ashamed of yourselves! Suck it up and entertain your kids yourself for a change! It’s a Sunday and unless you work retail you have the day off to spend with your child. The mall isn’t entertainment to a toddler nor a babysitter! I’ve been working in a local mall for six years now and it never ceases to amaze me the lack of care and general emotion most parents show towards their children. If I can notice it then you are damn straight they do. Tuck in your shirt and be a parent. Stay off the roads when they tell you to! Nothing should be that important that you have to run to the mall on a storm day. It pisses me off to no end working on a storm day, spending up to 9 hours of reading and solitaire with a deck of cards but what pisses me off even more, is the reason why we stay open, it’s because of you assholes and your boredom. —Glorified cashier

  1. OP…you’re just pissed because the stores would have closed if no one showed up during a set amount of hours. Don’t turn your bitch into a parenting lecture.

  2. Did you ask these people how they got to the mall? Busses will usually run unless the weather is really extreme… in which case they merely took a means of transportation which was going to be on the roads anyway and were not presenting any extra danger to anyone.

  3. I guess being an unkempt parent just isn’t good enough.

The child was well rested, had clothes, food, and love…
But he forgot to shave, that rat bastard.

  4. Most of the major roads were clear and had been salted. Plows made certain of that. Obviously management felt there was a reason for the store to be open, especially if the buses are able to continue their routes. if you dislike working so much as a cashier, why don’t you quit? You’re there to wait on customers, restock, etc…..not play solitaire and read.

  5. Um, this is Canada, it snows. It certainly wasn’t blizzard conditions, just a normal storm. Maybe the OB is from Arizona where they had a dusting of snow one day a few years back and closed the highways.

  6. Firstly OP, in the city lots of the roads were clear enough. Particularly to travel to the mall. Secondly, no, retail workers aren’t the only ones working on Sundays: health care staff, restaurant staff, maintenance and municipal road crews were all at work yesterday, so they didn’t have the time to spend with their child. Or maybe they work odd hours and Sunday was the only time they had to go shopping. And as previously pointed out, there were buses running, lots of people were out walking, and although it was probably dangerous in the early hours it definitely wasn’t by mid to late afternoon.

  7. The roads didn’t look that bad by the afternoon. I see no reason why people couldn’t go out so long as they were careful. Especially if they live nearby.

  8. What country were you in that it was announced:

“…stay off the roads, unless it’s an absolute emergency”

    Sure as hell wasn’t here.

  9. driving to a mall doesn’t make you a bad parent..spending time with that child at home during a storm and ignoring them, that makes you a bad parent..we live in canada, land of snow…when did we become such a nation of whimps when dealing with winter conditions?and please, keep your self-righteous,moral condescension to yourself

  10. The two major malls in HRM are surrounded by residential communities…ever think people may have walked?

Also: it isn’t just retail workers who work on sundays, fyi.

As well: when I was little I LOVED going shopping with my mom. She’d usually get together with cousins and we’d all go together. So not all kids think it’s a torture session (esp if you take them to the fecking toy store).

I agree that going out yesterday on a major highway or from an unkept secondary road was probably a bad idea, and the police WERE saying stay home unless it’s an emergency, but malls aren’t these big jaunts for everyone, OP. Some probably walked and some were probably only a few minutes away. City roads tend to be pretty good.

  11. some people are just born to die, and be fucking stupid at the same time. hopefully the two, would be very short lived.

  12. and i just bet these morons are the same ones, who won’t let their lil darlings go to school if it looks like a snowflake is coming down. insane fucking fruitcakes, sorry to all the fruits out there, lemons, apples, oranges, etc.

  13. At about 4:15 yesterday the 118, was snow covered with heavy slush in the tire wear pattern, the outside lane was completely covered. there were many people doing 70kms or less.
The 102 from Miller Lake, heading to Elmsdale was a better, the tire wear pattern was mostly clear on the inside lane, yet people were crawling.
You could tell all the people with Snow tires, they were doing around 100 kms in the outside lane, nobody was flying, no one sliding all over. There were pick ups, even little 4 cyclinder car’s, churning out small rooster tail’s from their front wheels, a couple of mini vans, there was an airport cab in front of me, all passing those little groups of crawling along at 50 to 70 .
The roads were fine with the proper tires,
    there in lies the problem,
those with worn out those so called ‘all season’s’ tires, cannot drive around when roads are covered in ice & slush, the traction just isn’t there!

    Oh the humanity!!

I hope you got paid for it!!

  15. Haha I missed that part when I skimmed this tripe, CE!

I wonder if OP gets paid when the mall is closed? I know I never was.

  16. “It pisses me off to no end working on a storm day, spending up to 9 hours of reading and solitaire with a deck of cards”

The storm this bitch is about happened on a SUNDAY Mall’s are only open 5 hours…
