Of course, behind every new thing in the world, there are skeptics. And so there should be. Yes, I think people should definitely be aware of the Kony 2012 campaign, but no, I don’t think it’s something to feel “empowered” over or anything of the sort. Kony is a horrible person who should be stopped, (as many evil forces world-wide should be, as well) and if Invisible Children are able to do that, then fantastic. Good job. So why hate on them? But also, why love them? I’m fairly neutral, but I do agree with many: before you jump on the bandwagon either way, research a little.
It amazes me how a viral campaign can get so much attention so quickly. It’s a phenomenal thing to see. But seeing how fast this popped up over everyone’s Facebook pages in a matter of hours, makes me think, what if this is all BS? It’s so easy to manipulate and spread viral videos. I’m not trying to deter anyone’s opinions here, just encouraging a critical thinking pattern about anything, really, in the media today.
I still believe we should fight (peacefully) for international justice and raise awareness of the evils going on in the world, but don’t get caught up in the topicality of Kony 2012. With all the hype of this campaign, it’s easy to be an ignorant follower without doing some fact checking first. Just be a critical thinker, your own thinker. —JL

The campaign also helped raise awareness about many other issues, unintentionally, because of the controversy surrounding it. Things like foreign countries getting involved in other countries business only to promote their own agendas, and faceless organizations like Invisible Children receiving millions of dollars in donations.
I wonder how many people who are outraged about Kony have a Che t-shirt, somewhere in their bedroom closet?
The sad thing about the Kony 2012 shit is how all the kids just actively ate the bullshit that the company who made the video fed them.

My high school Law teacher told me that. There is always two sides to every story. It’s great that people are trying to raise awareness of bad things that happen in the world, but its pathetic when people turn it into the flavor of the week/month/year. Do most of the people who are supporting the Kony 2012 campaign/movement have any idea what its all about aside from what that 30 minute video that neglects to provide all or even most of the facts? Probably not. The company that made that video knew that people would eat that shit up and they would get donations because that’s what we as a society have become. We aren’t activists….the majority of us support or donate to causes because its the feel good thing to do or it’s a popular thing at the time.
I’m not saying everyone does things for selfish reasons, but its pretty clear that the majority of Kony Idiots are doing it because its a popular trend. People love to play the part of the passionate activist as long as they don’t have to actively do anything besides say “I support this cause” or donating some small change.
Luckily, I’m an angry bitter man who is so caught up in my own small petty problems that I don’t even pay attention to this shit when it pops up. Maybe I’m selfish asshole, but at least I’m consistent.
Any positive step is a step in the right direction.

In my opinion, this all boils down to laziness. Back in the day when you had to walk around with a petition and get people to sign it, or carry a sign or do something physical to get your point across, you were working for something you actually believed in. These days, people hit a button and they are magically a part of the movement. You don’t have to do anything, not even go anywhere. just watch a video, hit the share or like button and bam you are a supporter.
It’s the lazy way to be part of a movement.
