To the people that are religious recyclers. The people that shill out money for bags and get nothing in return. Well heads up, you’re maybe stopping landfill waste, but, not the economical pollution to remake and reuse recycled goods. The transport and shipping industry is still filled pollution that is unending. And to top things off the loss of jobs to the workers who do the sorting back at the trash yards in the area. So why the fuck do we self-sort for free! I’m sure that having to by specific bags for each type of trash is a pain, while disposal yards are making a mint off the free labour. I propose that, at least, for sorting the dirt for large companies, that we should be able to claim the cost of bags on our yearly taxes. Just a thanks for doing a good thing and getting something back in return. Sorry about the loss to the sorters in the junk business, sorting’s dirty work. —Driven by Madness

anything you do ‘for the planet’ is really for yourself, you live here, it’s your home. unless you were planning on moving?
i have a bug about the bags as well. to me, it’s a windfall for the glad company et al (not the disposal company) you should sort stuff yourslef, but use a reuseable container to put the stuff out to the curb, the guys empty it into the appropriate section of the truck then drop your container/bin back on the curb. for apt dwellers, there should be marked bins out back. glass/plastic/paper/cardboard. we had that type of system in winnipeg decades ago, and also in vancouver.
I’m not sure OP that you grasp the enormity of waste that we produce and how many sorters it would take to properly divert reusable material from the landfill. We, as stewards of the planet, need to do our part and help those at the municipal landfills by sorting it ourselves. To hire the amount of sorters it would take to alleviate the burden (if you want to call it that)to the average household, would be an immense financial burden on the municipality and that would be passed back to the household in the form of municipal taxes.
Not sure what you mean by “economic pollution” but the total carbon footprint from making goods from recycled material is still less than doing the same from scratch (so to speak)when you considering such things as mining, smelting, transporting materials etc.
Recycling is not that difficult and stop fighting it, it will only become more a part of our lives at least I hope so.
That’s a great idea Good Dog. Reusuable recycling bags. Halifax needs clear bags for garbage too, enough of this “privacy” bullshit.
Don’t forget the dog urine receptacle attached to the side.
I watched Trashopolis last night on Mumbai – now they recycle! Quite amazing actually.
did you see the episode on montreal funnygirl? now they are serious!
Recycling means it doesn’t leave your house until you’re done with it.
When i recycle a bottle, i reuse it.
Soon as i put it in that blue bag, that’s another stop/start one of those trucks has to make.
People are pretty dumb. But it keeps them happy. It makes them think the end of our comfortable existence isn’t as close as it actually is. Also keeping all those extra trucks on the road is The Law… I just try to contribute to the whole thing as little as i possibly can.
We have had the capabilities for so long to use electric cars – how many of them you see around? Not many. We could be solar powering our homes, but do we do that? No. We could use wind turbines and perpetual motion machines for our energy needs. This all exists and has for years and would save the environment. But if we actually used these things it would mean the end of capitalism and the war on oil. Translation: All the rich people would stop getting rich. So they continue to drill into the Earth’s core and lie to us saying that its A-OK ,….and when the oil spills into our water supply – that’s A-OK too, we’ll just clean all the little duckies with dove soap. Then they spin us the inconvenient truth of how the continent will end up underwater or as a giant fireball because I threw my beer bottles out the window. Gimme a break, Al.
Don’t go washing duckies with Dove … Lol
You throw your beer bottles out of the window? Da hell.
People just do not care. They just don’t. How sad is that … I feel like Louis XVI … eventually someone’s gotta pay for the “work” done by the other Louis’ (and by himself of course).
Hey if you are going to wash the ducks with soap at least get the brand right, NO not Dove, that’s for the fat pre pubescent girls. the ducks like Dawn. Works every time on the ducks.
“..perpetual motion machines for our energy needs. This all exists and has for years”
Who figured out how to violate the first law of thermodynamics?
Has he been tried by judge and/or jury and locked up in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude.
I do hate that it takes 3-4 bags of recyclables just to get your money back on the bags themselves… I’d be all for tax deductions there.
Microwaved ZZZZ: Stick to peddling your empties, something you do a helluva lot better than comment o n the bitch line.
I like your Louis XVI parallel Donk. Every town and city should have a public guillotine for offenders to the environment. (j/k sort of)
Yeah, electric cars have existed for a while now, but they still aren’t practical for a lot of people for a multitude of reasons.
Woggy, don’t you have a decrepit, stanky, charity case to blow?
I’m sure he’ll treat you to some Country Kitchen Buffet after…
