i can pretty much guarantee that none of the other posters have ever waitressed. $75 in one night? on sales of over $2000? that is not “not bad”, it is terrible. $75 would be fine on sales of 5 or 6 hundred but do you know how much work you physically and mentally have to do to sell TWO THOUSAND dollars worth of $5 beers and $10 meals?and to everyone who has instructed her to quit complaining: aren’t there any aspects of your job that frustrate you? haven’t you ever had a really bad day/night and just needed to vent?serving jobs, especially the really good ones, where people actually tip 20-30% and don’t treat you like an airhead, are not that easy to acquire and you sometimes have to work at the shitty places to get the necessary experience.

I am the airport bitcher – to those who showed their support, I thank you very much. I believe that we all have very bad days at work, no matter what our jobs or careers – this happened to be a VERY bad day for me and i desperately needed to bitch, thought I had come the right place..I and others in the service industry take more than the average share of abuse on a daily basis and when you run like a slave for 10 hours, sometimes not stopping to pee or eat all the while being treated with less respect than someone would give a turd, it makes you downright evil. I am just as human as the person demanding service from me, it would be nice to be treated accordingly. I would like to say to the person who commented on my service and how they wouldn’t tip me one red cent. I guess I neglected to mention that i give EXCEPTIONAL service, it is how i am treated in return that is the issue. Furthermore, i would like to say I WOULD NEVER TAMPER WITH ANYONES FOOD!!If i and my coworkers didn’t take the opportunity to vent and bitch, we probably would expell our venom more aggressively. As a food service manager to me the problem sounds like you were understaffed. I don’t think that 2000 sold by 1 server can A) result in good service, you will be too rushed to provide service worth a 15-20% tip. B) tells me that management needs to schedule more staff.Serving is a tough job, but I am sure that youn like most servers quickly forget about the ” great ” nights you had when you walked out with hundreds of dollors in tips. Suck up the bad nights and if they are more often than not get a new job!

It is one thing to vent. It is quite another thing to threaten to lace a customer’s food because you are unhappy in a job. It is also quite rude to target European visitors to this province. The last thing this province needs is people like you working in the tourism industry. If you hate your job, get out of it. You don’t deserve anyone’s sympathy here.

I totally sympathize with her. I’m not a waitress, but I work customer service. You think it’s frustrating bringing people their food and getting flipped out at? ok so i just finished watching OPRAH Sept 22, if any of you out there watched it you will get what I am about to say- first let me qualify that I have already written in to respond about what hard job serving is- HOLY SHIT- i take back all my gripes I have been a server/bartender for 15 year and a restaurant manager for 6 (no longer in it, but still love the industry) however there are people out there cleaning and maintaining our sueage!!! (i’ll be honest not really sure if that is how to spell it,but i am in a hurry)…oh my god!!!!! least we forget the forgotten. let’s all respect what we have and respect those who really have it sooo worse, no amount of money could make it worth my while. thank god for the real people who deal with SHIT

i agree with ‘no sympathy’ as i have none 4 u eithermany millions of people work hard at jobs they don’t like for low wages and they don’t get tipsmany millions more work in 3rd world countries as slaves for 75$ a month (if they’re lucky)be grateful that u have options and don’t take 4 granted the oppourtunity you have try letting your ego go, allowing other people’s bad attitudes, ‘treating you like shit’ to bother you is weakness, pride, be strongerand let go of your expectations, this leads 2 suffering, (if u went 2 work each night expecting only 2 earn your wage then u would b pleasantly surprised each time u got a tip and ur shift would be pleasant no matter how busy u were)in japan people don’t tip customarily, the waiter/waitress is doing their job and getting paid for it just like everyone else, i for 1 think this makes more sense than our ‘custom’

I can appreciate your comments having worked in the hospitality industry myself. And I think your comments are appropriate given this is a bitch forum. However, if this is the way you feel most of the time, you need a serious attitude adjustment. Get off your butt and look for another job. If you have a university degree as you claim, why don’t you use it? And not appreciating other cultures coming to the maritimes is very sad. We need more tourists, not less. So those travellers don’t have tip money. 2 and 1 – People who connect after six hour flights with no food other than a stale sandwich and peanuts (which you have to pay $10 for) would be hungry because they might have skipped breakfast and it’s four in the afternoon and this is the first meal they might have. Now, add this to the voucher which gives them food for something that they already spent $2000 on and they figure that it covers everything, or they figure that the airline covers gratuity because if it were up to them they wouldn’t even show up at your restaurant, they would be on their plane heading HOME! How long does it take you to get HOME, 12 hours? 16 hours? 38 hours (happened to me twice)? No, well then, when you are forced to sleep on an airport cot, not taking a shower for almost two days and the airline tells you that your luggage was sent on the flight that you wern’t able to take because you were still being screened then a meal voucher going to a surly server who thinks they are god’s gift is the last thing you need. You are lucky to get a euro, go to a bank and have it changed. You have a bank account right? USE it. A Euro is worth $2.15 canadian, you got more money dummy not less. I’m pretty sure the landlord doesn’t take all loonies as well, so, again, get your money changed at the bank when you deposit your tips. Or do you keep it in a jar under your bed? Idiot.Have a nice day. Oh, and tips are NOT manditory despite what you may believe. A tip may be NICE, but NOBODY is obligated to give you a single thing, no matter how good you may have served. You can call them an asshole, but realistically, do you tip the cashier at a grocery store counter? How about the person who actually fixes your meal? Why give the tip to the person who got the food from the kitchen to your table? How come the prep person isn’t tipped for making sure the food was sanitary and half cooked for speedier service?
