In Halifax, women servers at two waterfront pubs wear black, extremely short shorts or skirts and low cut tank tops. Some argue it’s good for tips, but it’s better for the restaurant owners because it increases their sales. Why are women’s bodies being used to increase sales? If a young woman wants to take a job that requires her to dress in such a fashion, it’s entirely her choice as a functioning adult. I doubt if someone earning plentiful tips is feeling ‘humiliated’. Why all the outrage? Bitter because you can’t rock a micro mini skirt?

Really, the only fair thing would be to have the same uniform for the male and female staff. If the females have to wear short skirts, cleavage baring tops and uncomfortable shoes, the male staff should have to wear the same. It would be amusing to hear some dude server near the end of his shift say, “These heels are killing my feet!”
Sex sells. Are these servers being forced to wear these clothes or are they wearing them on their own volition.
