There is an old adage that if it’s too loud, you’re too old. Well I guess I am officially too old considering I live about 5 km away from the Common and I could sing along to Paul McCartney as my windows rattled, my kids were kept awake, and I dreaded getting up at 5am Sunday to go to work. As if this were not enough, I get to do it all over again next weekend when KISS is on the Common.
If the city of Halifax feels the need to cordon of public space given to residents by the King of England for a private concert, they could at least ensure it ends in good time rather than extending the noise bylaw so the show could go on as late as 1am. Is there a reason the concert could not have ended at 10?

Well there is good news in your future.
If you continue to get older, you’ll probably end up with hearing aids & then you can simply pop them out & you’ll be enjoying the silence… or will you bitch about going deaf next ?
yes you are an OLD FOOL..my suggestion, rise above it,enjoy it and grow up …your an embarassment to your children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wonder what would happen if I blasted my sound system on the Commons during the same time period as the Sir Paul love in.
Oh STFU you old fart.
And McCartney was off the stage before midnight, not 1:00am.
McCartney and the Stones were the biggest acts Halifax has ever seen – fuck, I waited 4,578 years to see those rockin’ dinos and, judging from the crowd, so did a lot of other old geezers like me. You should have put on some headphones and listened to fucking Lawrence Welk.
Wah wah wah, I had to listen to a performance by one of the FUCKING BEATLES for FREE sniff sniff
Halifax is so bi-polar it isn’t funny.
Really? I was on a patio within a 3 minute walk to the concert and we couldn’t hear it that well. I guess it was the trees. Anyway, totally sympathetic toward your plight – that you had to listen to amazing music at a low level until 11:30, is there a trust fund for your children that I can send some money to?
We could bring ADHD into this bitch, but on the other hand……… lets not go there. haha
Why didn’t you call the cops? hahaha
That’s what I don’t get, folks pay about $100,000 more to live in the heart of the city, if you bought a house that is, or they’ll pay several hundred a month more if they rent; just to be nestled in tight with all the other like-minded-folk. Then the city behaves like a city and it’s “You dirty fuckers for disturbing me!” I don’t get that. That’s kinda lost with me. Why did you get so close to seathing humanity if you don’t like humanity’s ways.
The country is a great place for folks that like the peace ‘n quiet, EH!!!
i’m with smee. if you don’t want to live in a city’s downtown or centre, don’t.
and, crappy, fuck. your avatar. fuck. just fuck. man.
“given to residents by the King of England “…. BRAHAHAHA, it’s laughable to OP finds this statement relevant
I’m sure you walked by to listen…didn’t ya! Do you also complain about the noon powerblast from Citadel Hill, sirens and baseball games? meathead :p
The damn birds are chirping too loud! Somebody shut those rustling leaves the hell up!
i’m sorry you had to spend three hours of your life listening to the dreadful music of sir paul mccartney. it must have been so0o0o awful…
call the police repeatedly complaining it violates the noise violation bylaws…..sue the city for violating the bylaws that are to protect all HRM citizens. paul sucks!
its people like you OP that keep this city in the stone age
You do realize I live in Dartmouth and I could hear almost every word he sang! (not that I minded but…) No one buying homes in the city believed for one minute that concerts were going to be allowed on the Commons, that’s why they bought where they did. That’s why we have noise by-laws too. And the city is violating it’s own noise by-laws, that’s why they had to suspend them from 11 p.m. to 12 a.m. that night. Don’t you just love how those in power get to change the rules? And while many wanted to hear McCartney, it’s not a great thing if you needed to sleep to be at work early the next morning. (I did not) And if I could hear it in Dartmouth, just how loud was it?
