To the Mom that allowed her 3yr son to be on a scooter on a Cuban road and who was struck and killed in a traffic incident. You should be charged with “stupidity resulting in the death of an toddler”.

Its so sad for this little boy to have his life ended much to early, but seeing all the media and attention from Canadians about the Mom’s struggles to get out of the country so she can return to the funeral is the least important part of this tragic story. I’m sorry but any parent who plays a part in their child being on a scooter at age 3 on public Cuban roads should be held accountable to the law for the results.

Why is nobody reporting on why this toddler was on a scooter in Cuba in the first place. —SomePeoplesParents!

  1. She didn’t break any laws. Kids travel all the time on scooters not only in the Third World but in Europe and Asia too. Accidents happen but it doesn’t make the parent a bad parent.

For anyone going to Cuba, my one piece of advice is don’t drive there. It has nothing to do with safety but as the article points out, if you get into an accident, you are stuck there for at least six weeks.

  2. I drove a scooter down there at my own risk. I chuckled when they handed me a foam bicycle helmet.

  3. +1 for not risking it in their crazy ass traffic…
Especially when a taxi or bus in Cuba is dirt cheap.

  4. OB has clearly never been over to the middle east. For example, on a scooter in Port Said, Egypt i saw an elderly lady on a scooter with NINE…thats right 9 children hanging off of her and it in one way or another. I asked an Egyptian Police officer why this was allowed and he said “meh, one death or 200, theres no difference” why we continue to judge other cultures based on the rules we have in place here and be outraged about it on public forums. WE cant change how things are done there. in this case sure its stupid, but does the local customs allow such a thing on a normal every day basis, or is this strictly because it is a foreigner on their soil that they are coming down even harder on…id like to know that.
