On Thursday afternoon at the public library, I overheard you speaking with security about being being called a “faggot,” stating your rights and trying to explain how this was a hate crime. I wanted so badly to step in, stand with you and somehow express to you how deeply saddened I was to hear that had happened to you. I’m unsure if security was helpful to you, but I wanted you to know I respect how calmly and patiently you explained the situation. I’m still kicking myself, wishing I knew how to be a more helpful ally. I hope you see this and know you are incredible and you are loved. I am sorry for not doing more. —A sad and angry friend

If a crime was committed, he should have called the police, not a security guard.
