just shut up and take out the trash and fry up the wontons.
you’re not performing brain surgery or supreme court litigation.
What is this? The 40’s? Good luck forming that union bud, the labour law favours the employer when they fire you all for attempting to form that union. You’d better keep it nice and quiet, especially when you have to announce the union to the entire workplace and have to get more than 2/3rds of the vote for the union. Oh, did I mention, that includes your bosses? Right, there’s that little technicality. Oh, not to mention, if you go with a larger union (i.e.: IBEW, LIUNA, etc.) if they go on strike for whatever reason, oh let’s say, right to fart on your breaks, you’re out of your low-paying chef’s job. Congrats. You’re a dumbass.
If you’re that good quit on the bastard and get another job.
Oh and it would have been nice if you gave the reasoning of the firing. If it was for theft, negligence, or misconduct then it doesn’t matter what time of year it was, they’re out.
Dr Fever.. you should work for government as they’ve so effectively manipulated your brain with bureaucracy you’ve completely succumbed. You might as well be one of “them”. The government constantly creates frameworks difficult to navigate but the process is sound, if not a pain in the ass for the individual to work through. You talk about unions being such a pain to form it’s just not worth it fighting for your rights. Loser, you’ve been had by your own government!
This thinking extends to corporations. By definition a corporation is a separate legal entity from it’s directors. So you go through the motions of forming such a creature then, boom, the economy goes tits up and the corporation is in a bad way. Well, there’s a whole sector of government using the “Act” to recoup government losses from the director’s of such corporations. There’s no invitation to court or a hearing they just take and take and take without answering to anybody. Of course this is wrong but one would have to file a grievance (or 5) with the law society (lawyers who govern themselves) and if you have a decade or two to fuck around while the government keeps your assets…
See, you’re not the only one who’s rather just go get a new job than fight for your rights. This thinking is infectious though so smarten up!
To Kay- Just shut up already…he is just stating the *note this* fact that forming a union is though and good luck with that. You are right out of ‘er!
He’s not saying Fuck it! lets just sit here and let them kick the shit out of us. And if all the OP want s is revenge then buy a few rats of the street and sewr. Then take them there and call the health inspector. Hopefully he will sort himself out, besides, there are a lot of different ways to get even and stay outta trouble!
Point well made Kay, however, you’d need to have significant financial wherewithal to form such a union. Is it really worth all that effort to go to forming a union (start to finish, including all legalities, approaching the Labour board to confirm it’s a valid and fair union, finally having a vote with all concerned parties, that being ALL employees, not just the little guy) for the sake of a 10 dollar an hour job? Really? It’s infectious because it makes sense. Alright, let’s take the easy way out, and approach an already strong, big union (IBEW, lets say) and they are incorporated into this union. IBEW goes on strike the other side of the province, for whatever reason, for 15 months. Great, they’re fighting for their rights, but that lowly chef is now out of a job for 15 months because the union forces a solidarity strike on the chef/workplace. Sure they vote against it, but it still goes through because the process is democratic. The chef can’t go look for other work. The employer at that time has two choices. Hire new employees as scabs, and stay open, which would make good financial sense, or close the restaurant entirely. It’s usually the latter, and not only has the area lost a business, but there are more unemployed individuals. What’s right for the employee now? What I’m saying is that the employee has every single right to fight, but as with every battle, they need to pick it well, lest they get caught with a just a knife in the middle of WW II. Last but not least, Big Unions these days are more corrupt than Brian Mulroney, case in point, LIUNA (the world’s largest labour union) has an entire section of it’s monthly newsletter dedicated to listing the names of those who were caught in the union for fraud, extortion, organized crime, etc.
