Do you have any idea what it feels like to work your ass off for someone, only to be completely fucking burnt? Do you think that I or any of the other 15-20 employees in your two locations wanted to work all fucking Christmas, only to be told that both restaurants are closing down, and that we worked the past 3 weeks for fucking free? Can I claim that shit as volunteering? I don’t fucking think so. We all put up with so much of your bullshit for so long, and for what? “Yeah your cheques will be in at 3.” “I got caught up, the other guy will be in with your money at 6.” “Something came up, you’ll have them tomorrow by noon.” “Sorry, Tuesday at the latest.” FUCK YOU.
Everyone in those restaurants worked to the fucking bone all fucking Christmas, just so you could have money to buy your new cars, to spend thousands of dollars of OUR MONEY on Christmas presents for yourself and your families. Do you think that any of us were doing you a fucking favour? No, we were all working so that with the limited staff you had managed to keep around, none of our fellow colleagues would be royally fucked and have to work even harder if anyone fucked off and left. Everybody could see this coming, and the only reason you kept standing was because we took money out of our own pockets to buy food for the restaurant, after your food supplier stopped delivering, on account of YOU NOT FUCKING PAYING THEM. I feel sorry for the countless people who bought gift certificates over the holidays for your piece of shit restaurant, because just like they rest of us, you guys are fucked too. Unfortunately, I’m sure the fine print reads that “this gift certificate has no cash value,” and apparently neither do all the fucking hours that us employees worked all Christmas. The only good thing that came out of this was that none of us had to waste our New Years Eve raking in more cash for your greedy asses.
Fuck you. You’ll get yours. Karma’s a bitch, it all works out in the wash. —Hoping You Lose Your Business, House, and Wife

wow ok i sincerely feel for u.. holy shit. that’s insane.. I say get some legal aid.. i mean the money brought in from these 3 unpaid weeks obviously is in their pocket. how do you NOT know ur business is closing.. fuckin idiots. shit man. sorry to hear
The food service industry has to be one of the worst for how staff are often treated by owners. And people would be surprised how little protection there really is, as far as payments etc. Yes, there may be laws – but good luck with those. Over the years, I have known some people who have been screwed over as far as pay goes by un-caring owners, who have closed up and fled into the night.
Always a danger sign when suppliers stop delivering goods, as usually the place is about ready to go under, as they likely have not been paid for a while by the time they stop deliveries. When staff see that happen – try to get any money owed right away, as it is almost past time to bail on the place, before they close and leave you totally high and dry.
With luck you may get something more than experience from this situation. But truly leaves a bad taste in many ways. If possible, hint to us which group this was, as they may have the balls to start up again locally. Often they do, or appear again a few years later when the heat is lower on them. Better luck to you on your next job.
OB, income tax season is coming up…..be sure to report all 100% of your tips. Likely you won’t though. Enjoy the EI line.

I would feel be obligated to stomp somebody out. Anybody
You payed for for the restaurant when the suppliers cut them off. WTF is wrong with your head?
Sounds like a “bust out”. Watch “Goodfellas” or Season 2 of The Sopranos for more details.
You and your collegues aren’t very bright are you. When suppliers are not getting paid, that is your signal to get the fuck out, not to buy food for a losing proposition. You should have used that money to pay for food for your own families.
You know what, if someone ripped me off & they’re driving a nice car…good luck keeping tires on it.
Not that I would take the tires, but you’d never be able to keep air in those tires & insurance doesn’t cover holes in sidewalls ~;)
You said it More, street justice FTW.
And I gotta say I agree with Bro Tim on this one. You should have seen this coming. If the suppliers aren’t getting paid, that’s a pretty good indication that neither are you. How gullible are you?
That being said, you got screwed, I’m not victim blaming. During the holiday season I understand how you could throw caution to the wind and tough it out. It’s kinda like you were fucked if you did or fucked if you didn’t. You could walk out but then you gotta find a job to support you and yours for the holidays.
Sad that this has happened to you. I would be pissed as well because you know the owners just ran off with the last bit of cash.
I think we are going to see more and more restaurants closing in the near future as so many of them are not even half as busy as they use to be.
That fucking sucks OP. Best of luck finding a better job.
i have worked at a dying restaurant where i had somewhat of a rep in the name
(i was a sous chef, and brought a lot of people to eat our food)
trying to have suppliers bring food after they put us on COD but doing cash and carry to keep the menu going, and not taking a cheque to keep the rest of the staff to stay…. and then watching the whole thing crumble… and in the end being out over a grand of my pocket
and having to let my friends(staff) know… no, theres not going to be another cheque….
thats a pretty awful situation.
i feel for these employees…
fuckers
This happened to friends of mine at the Hydrostone Cafe, except they found out one night by walking past the shop to discover the owner putting newspaper up in the windows.
I have gone there more than a few times and the staff was always great, nice and friendly. Sleazy bastards like that get to walk away from the mess because they incorporate the business and they don’t take a personal loss and get to start over again. Laws need to change so that employees are the first ones paid in bankruptcy not banks.

Curious as to why some previous comments have been removed? Is it policy to censor names of people and private businesses? Or was this done at the request of invested parties?
Anonymity tends to be enforced, frequently in hindsight and often under fairly nebulous standards. Some of the hints at the identity of this establishment may have been a bit too obvious for the Coast’s legal department.
here’s a crazy thought… why don’t those investigative geniuses at the coast do a story on all these restaurants closing and leaving their employees in the lurch. beats more occupy or oval crap
If they can’t tie Peter McKay or Mayor Tapeworm into it, they probably can’t be bothered. A “Social Justice” story’s marginal utility decreases if there’s no potential for a Harper as Hitler cartoon.
