He was so adamant in making a fool of you in front of me, the customer. As he was being rude to you he was looking at me smiling as if I were supposed to agree with what he said.

I hate seeing bosses be so mean to their employees, I once worked in a coffee shop in toronto with a horrible boss like that. OP, you can still go back and do something, tell the boss you were not impressed with his treatment of her. The employee probably has many bills to pay and jobs are hard to get now, so you speaking up may make a small difference in the boss’ attitude.
