I had a daydream about this on my lunch break today. Some co-workers were talking about it…
I’m walking alone at night for some unexplained reason. The swarmers come, and I single-handedly kick all of their asses because in all of my daydreams I know Kung Fu. Then some really hot policemen come to find the swarmers tied up comic book villain style, as I stealthily disappear into the night.
Then I went back to work.

Um, yes demographics might be interesting but the fact that “whites” seem to be the victims isn’t really surprising – Halifax is mostly white. Seriously, if you’re just looking at demographics then the odds are much higher that the victims are going to be white. I wouldn’t assume the assholes are targeting white people just because of their race – more likely that they happen to be there.

I guess you haven’t been to the north end. It isn’t exactly similar demographics of Hammonds Plains or the deep south of Halifax. Plus, its mostly the work of the same group of kids so they could very well prefer certain targets.
sodeypop: Yeah, I have been to the north end – I live in the west end & will soon be moving to the north end. You’re right, the demographics are slightly different in the north end. But I’m still reluctant to think racism is the driving force.
The swarmings didn’t all take place at the same intersection or anything – they were throughout the north end.
I guess I’m just tired of white people bitching about anyone who’s not white “playing the race card” and often times trying to create “reverse racism” (I hate that term but you know what I mean) where none really exists. I’m not saying it isn’t plausible that there are kids out there with a racist agenda but more likely it’s kids being thugs and taking it out on whoever happens to be unlucky enough to wander by at the wrong time.
Given that white people STILL outnumber black people in Halifax – and keeping in mind that not everyone that walks thru/hangs out in the north end at all hours actually lives there (incl. me and I’m white)

I lived in the North End for two years when I first moved here. Never once had an issue with anybody. The South End is more dangerous believe it or not. I guess you actually have to be from here to know that though.
