To the cab driver who came to pick me up at the Acadian Lines Bus stop in Burnside on Wednesday night, why the hell was it so damn important for you to put my 2 open handbags in the trunk? “All bags must go in trunk!” Ignorant, pushy bastard, I don’t want my shit rolling around in there! I had to wait for another taxi, thank goodness I was in no hurry, and that the 3yo accompanying me is so easy to get along with…

Whatever your reasoning, that was an arsehole maneuver buddy. Do you get to charge more for putting stuff in the trunk? The next driver had no issue w/ me holding on to my things, and he got the fare with a good tip.

You sir, are a fungus on our fair province, and would be doing everyone here a big favor if you went back to wherever it is you’re from.

(I’ve never had any problems w/ a local cabbie ever b4…)

  1. It was probably because he wanted to charge you for it. Most cabbies are pretty good about it, but the “out of town” assholes who come here to drive try to nickel and dime you for everything. I once had one of them charge me $1.50 for putting my groceries in the trunk and then another $1.50 “extra passenger” fees for bringing the big bag of cat food into the cab with me because there was no room in the trunk. Then when we got to my house, he refused to help me get my stuff out of the trunk and told me he didn’t have change for my $10. I could see the change purse on the dash, so I called him out on it, told him in no uncertain terms that he could back to whatever godforsaken shit hole it was that he came from and that he could go fuck himself. I took down his roof light number and called to complain. The lady at the dispatch told me that it is standard policy for all drivers to have a minimum float of $200 in small bills and change to start their shift with. It was just this “out of town” asshole being a complete bag of shit.
Now don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with “out of town” skilled workers coming here and helping to improve our industry and economy. What I have a problem with is the ones who come here to work the system and fuck hard working people out of their money. And yes, I realize it probably not only the “out of towners” that do this, but in my experience, it’s always been one.

  2. Yup, they *do* charge for use of the trunk.

I don’t think I’ve had an experience with a cab as shitty as yours, Never Wrong: most have been pretty good, but I did have that one guy who bitched at me for using debit because he can’t buy gas with debit. Fucking old fart.

  3. Why can’t Metro Transit run all night? Cabs are so expensive (especially if they’re going to start making me put my purse in the trunk to charge me even MORE) and generally hard to get during those wee morning hours from downtown. Put it this way: there would definitely be people there to ride them that late.

  4. Hey OP, what was the guy’s reaction when you didn’t take his cab? Probably pretty sour about it. heh.

  5. Isn’t it possible it’s a safety issue for the cabbie? If you’re concealing a weapon in the bag you can’t use it on him while his back is turned(?). Maybe there are 2 sides to this coin.

I’ve never been charged extra by a cabbie anywhere to put a bag in the trunk. Have you?

  6. There is an underscoring of bigotry and xenophobia in this thread that is rather disturbing. I don’t see how an “out-of-town” cabbie trying to rip people off for $3 is any different from ol’ 5th generation Joe So-and-so the roofer who rips people off for $3,000. Why does being from away have anything to do with this case?

  7. It doesn’t, OPR. It’s just that we’re hard pressed to see a white face drive a cab (in any big city). Canadians still think they’re all white so anybody sporting another colour must be from “away”.

  8. OPR: If my post came across as xenophobic, that was not my intent. In the 10+ years I have lived in Halifax, I have had 3 non “out of towners” for cab drivers. One was a Newfie with quite possibly the thickest accent I have ever heard, who was a very jovial and pleasant guy who even helped me carry my groceries right to the elevator. The second was a local man who informed me that my last few cab drivers had been ripping me off by the route they were taking me to work in the morning. His route cost me almost $2 less (rotary area to park lane area, which is a pretty short trip). And the third was the only female cab driver I have ever had and was the most foul mouthed one too. I have had some good and some really bad experiences with “out of town” drivers. As I stated in my original post, I am all for skilled workers coming here and improving our industry and economy. I am also very aware of the fact that there are plenty of people from here who are scammers and rip people off as well. I come from a totally blue collar family and have seen some horrible contracting that we had to come in and fix afterwards. My point is that the vast majority of cab drivers in HRM are from “out of town” and cab drivers are what we are talking about here. Not roofers or contractors or anyone else. Cab drivers. So before you start calling us xenophobic or bigots, make sure you clearly read the entire post first.

  9. Just a thought;

Maybe the Cabbie didnt like the look of YOU. He wants to avoid geting robbed/assaulted/murdered. Asking someone to put a bag in the trunk is the easiest way to ensure you do not drive and dash.

    Flame away

  10. to tell you most cabbies are imiggrants and are more repectful than the local white poeple , to say go to where ever he comes from is ignorant, you complain about educated poeple and you ust showed ur not one, he has the same right to be in this place as you stupid bitch, he prob only wanted you to be more comfortable

  11. Isn’t it possible it’s a safety issue for the cabbie? If you’re concealing a weapon in the bag you can’t use it on him while his back is turned(?). Maybe there are 2 sides to this coin.”
I actually did wonder about that for a second or two, but as I’m a slender female traveling with a 3 year old, and my bags were, as I stated earlier, open, I posed no threat whatsoever to a stocky middle aged man, in my world anyway… A bluenoser or newf would likely have seen me with a kid and been more considerate, not less. He was just rude in a really… matter of fact way.

“I’ve never been charged extra by a cabbie anywhere to put a bag in the trunk. Have you?” Honestly, do you think you’d even notice as the numbers flew by? -I just looked it up, says they get to charge ten measly cents extra per bag placed in the trunk. Wow, big payoff.

  12. Bigotry? I said nothing about skin color, or anything about the fact that the guy could hardly even speak understandable English or that he stood way too close to me and acted in a way that says, “I think women are nothing…”

I am usually at least reasonably polite to people I meet, if I am being nasty you can be fairly fucking sure it has nothing to do with skin color or accent.

Kay, YOU were the first to mention skin color, cry racist why don’tcha? Maybe it was that Scandinavian looking driver. Can you tell my skin color from my posts? Get a life.

My father immigrated here in the 70s, and he’s been working at his skilled job ever since, never had to rip anyone off to live here, xenophobic I am not.

When I’m paying for a service, I expect the service provider to be at least…civil. As a kid in Halifax, the cabs were all seedy and reeked of ciggy smoke, but the drivers were reasonably nice. Even those from away.

  13. “Isn’t it possible it’s a safety issue for the cabbie? If you’re concealing a weapon in the bag you can’t use it on him while his back is turned(?). Maybe there are 2 sides to this coin.

Kay, in the time I’ve spent posting here and lurking, I’ve come to really wonder if you’re playing with a full deck of cards.

So, everyone should put their PURSE in a trunk. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. When most women who carry purses are in public they don’t let their purses out of their sight. You could just as easily hide a weapon in your pants pocket — does that mean we should all have to take off our pants and put them in the trunk of a cab?

The trunk is usually an extra $1 and they put it in when they set the meter, so it’s easily missed. Maybe you should pay closer attention next time you get into a cab, kay.

  14. “to tell you most cabbies are imiggrants and are more repectful than the local white poeple , to say go to where ever he comes from is ignorant, you complain about educated poeple and you ust showed ur not one, he has the same right to be in this place as you stupid bitch, he prob only wanted you to be more comfortable”

Um… Ok, I never said nuthin about no imiggrants(sp) wtf do you know about being repectful(sp) anyways? Maybe I think that some of the local white poeple(sp) are assholes too. I don’t complain about educated poeple(sp), on the contrary, I wish more poeple(sp) would use their brains and get an education. My right to be here is not in question, nor is his. If he’d wanted me to be comfortable, he’d have let me hold my bags. (Try using spell checker next time, you dumb fuck)

  15. Holy fuck Kay! I didn’t say YOU were a racist, I said you were crying racist. Big diff. Read ALL the words next time. A PURSE/HANDBAG does not belong in a trunk. It’s not against the law for him to insist on something like that, or to be an asshole… I should suck it up and let him treat me like shit, when I’m already paying more money than I can afford, to get where I need to go?

I spoke to the dispatcher when I called another cab from the same company. Report his rudeness to who exactly, the rudeness police?

Yes this is on a bitch board, and I posted a legitimate bitch.

you wrote: “this is you squawking about everyday coping skills you failed to gain. In other words, being an unreasonable bitch. Suck it up.” Right back atcha cunt! Get a fucking GRIP along with that LIFE you need.

  16. OP: But the question is WHY would you need to even quantify that the cabbie should go back where they come from… it smacks of latent bigotry. But its true, you never specified an ethnicity – the guy could be from Truro for all I know, but I doubt that you would have written that if he was an english-speaking white.

  17. Ahhh… where’d my post go? Poor Kitty still ain’t gettin’ any and BSB is talking to herself. Does it ever read stupid too with my post missing and people referring to it. Don’t you think so, Tim?

  18. WHY was my post censored? People squawk about a lot of shit here, call each other the most interesting names… why are my posts special? I’m no bitchier than the rest.

  19. Kay — we received a complaint about it. I do not want to police the bitch section – what a friggin’ minefield that would be, not to mention the resultant shit storm from you all – but, if we get a complaint, we have to pull it. It might go back up, it might not. Usually, it won’t. It is arbitrary and subjective, but it’s our site. Basically, in the post that got pulled, if you had ditched the first insulting part and just stuck to the critique of pretty kitty’s argument, I imagine there would have been no reason to pull it. But we are not going to start EDITING comments. Jesus, imagine the time involved, legal implications, etc. In any case, to borrow your words, suck it up. And that goes for the rest of yez, too.
