Tim’s Bozo only wants dough for smokes, dope and booze. The dog gets two joints a night and a dozen coffee cups to chew. A few years ago, there were only a couple. Reminds me of the old shampoo ad: “And we told two friends who told two friends…” Instead of a Town Crier, why not have a Town Cup Rattler who could greet the cruise ships? Of course, Peter Kelly and his clown college would get a cut of the take. Then they could put a parkade on top of St. Paul’s Church.
Grab him an application and pencil the next time you’re there. See what he says…
Yup, people who qualify for regular joe jobs chose to rattle cups instead… keep your change in your pocket, your nose up high and, buddy, keep dreamin’ of that perfect world you don’t actually live in.
Do you know if the man was literate? Sober? Healthy? Stable? Clean enough to handle food for the public? Educated? What, exactly, do you know of this man other than he expressed need for your change?Assumption and unfounded/uneducated judgment… count on Haligonians for that.
kay how literate do you have to be to work at timmy’s? Even if you can’t fill out an application you can get someone to help you. Even the case workers at the welfare office encourage everyone to go out to work. I knew someone who had a bad back and her doctor refused to sign the form. so now she has to go to work like the rest of us! I agree with TTFN. Sorry Kay but not all bums have hardship with health etc. if you are uneducated then get educated.
Ummm, you have to use a cash registar that has numbers and letters on it….so I’d say you have to be literate. And how do you people know that he’s never applied for a job there???? Maybe he fills out an application every day…just because there’s a ‘help wanted’ sign in the window doesn’t mean all you have to do is apply and the job is yours!
Lori; When working at a fast food joint, you really don’t need much of an education.I worked at a Tim Hortons a few months back, and one of the people I worked with had no education and was..a little ‘off’. But, with a little training, she learned what button meant what and learned. Its not hard at all…Maybe you should tell the hobo ‘Don’t knock it till you try it.’
The warmer weather is creeping up on us and so are the numbers of panhandlers. I figure if you’re standing six to eight hours a day, shaking a cup..then you can hold up a road sign. I don’t believe you need a degree for that.
I’m sure everyone posting here has filled out applications before. You may remember having to fill in your address and phone number. You may be surprised to learn that most employers will not consider your application if these fields are left blank. I used to have the same opinion of all of you until I learned this from someone down on his luck.
They can’t use a friends address? There are ways to get around that. Poor excuse.
