I have a smartphone and an address book. Transferring all the information form one to the other is quite the task and one I will never complete. So, I guess I’m an idiot. I also have several notebooks for work which of course I’m an idiot for not having backed up because I don’t have the time to do it all twice.
I lock things inside my car, house and various lockers. I guess I’m an idiot for not carrying everything of value with me at all times to avoid theft. Then I’m an even bigger idiot for even trying to lock something up 🙁
Then the OB also had their keys stolen. Yup, gotta be an even bigger idiot for not making duplicates of everything because the entire population of Canada has two of every key…… and all information backed up too 🙂
An address book can hold information other then just addresses that could constitute intellectual property. But hey, who cares right, the OB’s an obvious idiot.

even if the car did have a security system, no one responds to them. it does have a small deterrent factor just because of the noise.
police are always saying don’t leave valuables in a vehicle. I feel for op though since his was in a fenced compound. I think he was reasonable about leaving 300 pounds of tools overnight in his truck, in a compound. when they get replaced, if possible, set up welded steel racks along the side of the van and run steel chain thru the tools to the racks with a good lock. anything that slows them down slows the loss.

Nukka, the biggest issue with the keys being stolen isn’t the fact that he’ll have to have new ones produced, he’ll also have to go to the effort of changing his locks since a thief stealing the keys from the scene of the robbery means HE INTENDS TO COME BACK.

The fact that there are creeps out there who will do this is a reality. Should they? Of course not. Are they despicable human beings? Yes, obviously.
But none of that negates the fact that doing things like leaving keys in your vehicle overnight or not backing up important data or not locking your house are all very, VERY dumb things to do.
