I am a personal care worker in a group home for adults with cerebral palsy, the other day I had one of my residents out at Sobeys and we were standing in line to pay. I was telling jokes to my client and he was laughing and ‘telling me jokes back’. Yes, he can’t speak, but he tries to communicate anyways.

You, the woman behind us in line started speaking loudly to your friend ‘People like that have no place being out in public, I don’t even know why they bother keeping them alive, it’s not like they’re really living any kind of worthwhile life’. You proceed to laugh with your friend.

Fuck you. If I had not have been working, and required to be professional, I would have given you a big piece of my mind. For one thing, my clients may not live the kind of life that you do, but they are some of the most incredible individuals I have ever met. They enjoy their lives, and make the most out of the conditions they have to live with, they accept others and don’t judge them for their differences, and they are a hell of a lot better people than you and your judgmental, bigoted self will ever be. Just think, one fall, one lapse of judgment while driving or crossing the street, it could be you confined to the wheelchair in need of the same kind of support.

Get over yourself.

  1. I have a sister who is mentally challenged and I feel your pain. The way I look at it though is she never had the choice to be challenged whereas the idiot you referred to openly chose to be. I hope she burns in hell.

  2. “keep them alive”??

It doesn’t sound like the OP was escorting someone on life support, so WTF did the loud woman mean? …”keep them fed”??

  3. People like that make me sick…I don’t know why people bother keeping that woman alive!

  4. People like that make me sick…I don’t know why people bother keeping that woman alive!

  5. I hope your client didn’t take it personally. Good for you in being the better person there.

  6. OP, your a better person than me because I don’t think I would have been able to hold back “my piece of mind” and would have probably ended up being fired.

  7. I think you could maintain professionalism AND make the bitch look like the stunned cunt she was. Just be really condescending.

  8. don’t get me wrong if I was there I would of spoken up too but i think that taking the clients feelings (frame of mind) into consideration was very big of the OP. I have no tolerance for ignorant people. The thing is I would not of wanted the client to feel the backlash from it all.

  9. I’ve said things to people in this regard while on the job and it had no negative imipact on my employment status.

OP you could and should have said something to embaress them. Maybe something like, “They’re kept alive because they have the fundamental human right to have a life in this country, dumb little girl.” It’s not rude and would have put her in her place, maybe even make her start crying.

  10. I have a hearing loss and wear 2 hearing aides and I am made fun of on a daily basis by people and that includes some of the cashiers at Sobeys in the west end mall so I now shop at the Windsor street location.

  11. Unfortunately I think of people like that (the woman in line) and feel sorry for them…I mean how shitty is their life that they could possibly think that it’s ok to say, or even think something like that. Think about how happy we were as kids…before we had to “live” in the ‘real world” .. before bills, and grades, and pay checks got the worst of us..life was pretty good with no worries…. you keep telling him jokes and making him laugh and I’m sure that his life will have a lot more meaning then most people who have no idea just how blessed they are.

  12. When I was younger a couple of punk kids decided to harass a young man with Downs (he worked at Pine City) at the Dartmuth Shopping Cente terminal. I grabbed one of these asses and shoved him against the shelter and told him at least the guy has a job. Made the both of them apologize (I think they were a year or so older than me) and took all my resolve not to deck them.

I wonder who the mentally challenged really are?

  13. DER? (and Miles (from home)),
Holy crap! Are you going to poke kay with a stick and trash her mom next? You’re trying so hard…

    Don’t stop. I like fireworks.

  14. I am just so sick of her…I don’t frequent the LTWWB boards often but every time I do…no matter what Bitch I click on…there she is being ignorant and spewing garbage on the screen. When I poke my browser here…and I see her being an a$$-hat…she is going to get the business from me every time.

  15. Don’t worry about people like that Op. they have no idea about anything. And eventually when they are old and frail and need care, everyone they have alienated is not going to be there to wipe there butts and kiss them good night.

Kay you should realize that there are jerks and asshats everywhere, in every city, every village, every two horse town on the planet. They get balanced out by the nice people.

  16. Ha, punk kids. No wonder they always get beaten up.

I’ve slapped a few punk and skater kids around before when they were being stupid. Somehow, they always find a way to portray you as the “bully” after you stand up to them or defend someone against them.

But of course, that is almost always after they’ve been bitch slapped or hank-hill-ass-kicked.

  17. good for the women behind you. she should have stuffed a food tube down the vegetable and sucked the life out of the useless root.

  18. What. The. Fuck.
    You Human less fuck head.
I hope you are as miserable as you sound.

  19. I think you fell for a one-post troll. Don’t feed them. 😉

Of course, there’s the off chance that lonelygirl15 is, yes, a seriously disturbed person who started an account here just because the existence of ‘useless roots’ bothers them so much. Hmm…I think I have a guess why she might be ‘lonely’.

  20. I remember a good while back I was watching Dr. Phil (yes I know Dr. Phil) Anyhow, The episode was discussing three deaf and blind triplets. I will completely admit that I was totally ignorant, and in my ignorance wondered to myself, how someone could live that life, how hard would that be to be both deaf and blind. Fast forward to my learning sign language and, long story short, meeting someone who was deaf and blind. This was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. I was able to sit down and have a conversation with someone that a little while back, I couldn’t even understand how they would communicate at all. The most amazing thing was that in my conversation with this wonderful woman, I was completely gobsmacked that I was actually having this conversation; however, it wasn’t in the way that I was amazed that she was communicating with me, it was that I had the privilege and knowledge of communicating with this amazing woman. From this experience I learned how truly ignorant I was, and this woman and people who live the same lifestyle are just as happy and miserable as any other person. Ignorance of other people’s lives shut’s out the possibility of so many eye opening learning experiences as well as the possibility of meeting amazing people that could positively influence your life.

  21. I think I might have walked out of line for a minute, found a huge can of Pineapples and thrown it right at her head. If she survived, she’s a patient, if she didn’t the world would be a better place. Just an analogy folks, to let the readers know how useless that slag of a hag in the lineup deserves to breathe the same air as me and we who fell the same.

  22. Wow what a fucking bitch! I’d tell her she’s a worthless piece of crap and should go crawl under a rock and die. I hate people like that. One of my best friends sisters has cerebral palsy and she is a intelligent person and a nice person at that. And my grandmother when I lived in British Columbia took care of disabled kids so I grew up around them and I think it is so completely wrong to judge someone like that. I would just love to tell that woman to screw off. Man I’d love to shame her in public by making fun of her less then desirable features that shut that stupid cows mouth for good. Shame her in the store!!! And P.C.W, You doing a great job helping people in need and people like you are what we need in this world.

  23. it bothers me too when kay says such a friendly town… she only has comments for the negative. Yah the woman mouthing off about the disabled man is fucked. But cant see see any good. How about some cheers for the care worker kay she lives and works in Halifax too!

  24. i just have to ask…Kay do you try to EVER do anything to improve our town you seem to have been forced at gunpoint to live in or are you just another fucking moron who has nothing to offer but yet feels the need to get a dig in about the HRM every time? where are you originally from?

  25. Lonelygirl’s definitely a troll: account created the day of that post, nothing since.

    I’m I’m thinking kay’s from Toronto… definitely got that ‘holier-than-thou’ vibe to her…

  26. the fun of this board disappeared when all the bitches lined up like cattle and started bellowing my name… and hey, you’re all so fucking smart why even bother to ask…?

Dino, your ESP is pathetic. You should just give up.

Oh, and Treason, insert half a brain and you’d know it’s ALL girl… fuckin’ moron

  27. Holy fuck, Treason.. I just checked out your profile. 50% of your posts address me… get the fuck over it.
