To the 50ish-year-old male driver wearing the royal blue multi-coloured striped golf shirt, driving off the Main Street, Dartmouth Trunk 7 E ramp, merging onto the NS-111 S, Highway of Heros between 8:00pm and 8:15pm Saturday evening, August 17th –before you start waving your fist at me and spewing your road rage expletives, you need to GET A LIFE and LEARN how to enter a Highway from an Exit Ramp. Here’s a tutorial for you: “Highway Exit Ramps 101…’when a car is entering a controlled-access highway, the car on the on-ramp MUST YIELD to any vehicle on the highway.’ In the future, you need to, a) shoulder check for oncoming vehicular highway traffic, and either b) speed up to merge ahead of the oncoming vehicular highway traffic, or c) slow down and yield to oncoming vehicular highway traffic. Drivers already driving along the highway have the Right of Way and should maintain speed. It is not my job to predict whether you are going to speed up or slow down. In any event, you managed to find your accelerator when you passed me on my left, swerved toward my car, looked directly at me while shaking your fist and still spewed garbage from your vile mouth. It is not my inclination to engage in your game of CHICKEN! Learn to adhere to the RULES OF THE ROAD, you incompetent effing imbecile!
GROW UP and BE ACCOUNTABLE for your SHITTY driving habits, you CREEP! —Sick of Idiot drivers

“Idiot River” Huh?
Last week someone wrote a bitch to a lake.
Whassup with this war on nature.

Also, not a good time to be an illegal boa constrictor in Canada.
What I would like to know is were you prevented from going into the right lane thereby freeing up the left lane for the merging traffic? If there were traffic in the right lane and it were not safe to move over, then you did right (this is also in the driver’s handbook).
If there was no reason for you not to go in the right lane, then I’d say you are a douche and can understand why the merging “idiot driver” was riled, I would be annoyed too but certainly would not do what that guy did.
It is also the responsibility of the driver on the highway to change to the left most lane if available and safe to do so when a car is entering the highway from the on ramp.
Something that drivers here can’t seem to grasp. Then again, they also like to bang into other cars while looking at accident scenes and speed up in passing zones then slowing down once they end.
Common sense gets left at the Quebec border it seems.
Sign.
While the law may state that he is to yield, if you believe it’s not “[YOUR] job to predict whether [they] are going to speed up or slow down”, you have a problem…
‘Cause if they don’t and you don’t… that BIG problem becomes yours too!
Just smile, wave, and mouth “thank you”, it makes my day when I further ruin someone’s day by being polite, when they act like an asshole after doing something stupid.
defensive driving means you should be thinking about what other drivers are doing.
courtesy (if not law) says you should move into the left lane if possible to allow incoming traffic a less anxious merge.
however, even if you had a free left lane, he’s not justified in his rage that you didn’t move over to allow him to enter the highway in the spot you just vacated. why do people think they the whole world should just step aside for them. more? was that you in the striped shirt?
I just close my eyes and gun it like everyone else does.
Seriously, I don’t.
senor, you have to say a hail mary when you close your eyes and gun it
drop kick me, jesus, thru the goalposts of life!

OB as someone who travels the 102 frequently, the amount of drivers who haven’t got a clue how to enter onto the highway is staggering . What really amazes me is how few accidents & deaths happen because of it. The amount of times people attempt to enter the highway doing 70 to 80 kms onto a 110 series highway & have caused near misses is beyond counting …. Often you can observe at least 1 attempt of vehicular suicide at every enternce/exit ramp from exit 8 on the 102 all the way to Bayers Road !
OB has confused a yield point with a merge point. With a merge point, both drivers have a responsibility which is best described by ‘whom ever reaches the dotted line first…’
“It is also the responsibility of the driver on the highway to change to the left most lane if available and safe to do so when a car is entering the highway from the on ramp.”
Wrong.
“When entering the highway use acceleration lanes to increase speed when merging into through traffic. The driver on the road should be prepared to change to the left lane if it safe to do so or slow down to allow traffic to enter the highway.” – NS Driver’s Handbook
This is what you are supposed to do. If everyone refused to speed-up or slow down or change to the left lane nobody would every be able to enter the highway. (especially in a larger city). Stop being rude behind the wheel and let people in. You would never survive driving in a larger city. Really…you would never block somebody from entering a building by refusing to move over out of the doorway.
