There are tons of goths who are environmentally conscious and hip to social issues. What better to be depressed about than the state of the world? I think a goth and an emo would not provide you too much entertainment, after one swat they would sort of give up in despair. Give Lilac a break, man, for one thing picking on goths is not too original. And how do you know some of us don’t write good poetry?
This article appears in Jul 24-30, 2008.

oh wow, I got my own thread? now I feel special.
Hey, way to go, hedg! You really made it! Unless you write this bitch yourself…A few things OP. Hedgy was picking on lilac before we knew she was goth, we all thought she was an earth nazi raging hippie. And deperssion as a goal is the lamest thing I can think of.
hehe I know, I feel like I’ve finally fullfilled some sort of hazy internet dream…how’d this even come about? did that bitch end up in the actual paper or something?and that wasn’t picking on- that was banter. friendly, humourous banter. way to take yourself super super serial there op
Goth and Emos are so fucking self-absorbed, it’s a wonder they can take their collective heads out of their asses to breathe. You want to be depressed about something??? Try a fucking terminal illness or abject poverty – most of you little twerps come from middle-class backgrounds and your ‘pain’ is a pathetic attempt to draw attention to yourselves. There are real problems in the world, assholes, your angst isn’t worth ant shit to the rest of us.Hey, Hedgy – here’s your 15 nanoseconds of fame – enjoy! (Wink!)
Hedgy, it was printed in this weeks Coast!
I’d like to thank the academy….and most of all god for making me obnoxious enough to piss off the goths.now I have to go hide before they come after me with wooden stakes for slighting their cultural-justification for being self-indulgently mopey.
Wow, way to classify. I know some “goth and emo” kids and they are all cool people. But I guess I took the time to get to know them.Another one… for the Bad guys
This is truly a great day OTC hedgy.. Bravo… You have now joined the ranks of a select few who have their own bitch-at-me thread…But don’t let it go to your head… Until you ride someone hard enough to trigger a melt-down-wake-up phone call to Tim,,, you haven’t REALLY made the big leagues…But hey this is your day to shine,,, so go with it… Have a good one..
sniff sniff I’m just so very very honoured…I can only hope to one day hit the level of sarcasm that I cause full on trolly meltdown, like floyd………….oh if only..ps badguy, way to take yourself and your pals oh so very serious. I’m kidding. I’m sure goths and emos are very nice people, under all that make up, angst,a nd poorly thought out hair and fashion choices……I poke fun becuase generally when I see these peopel, who often seem to be in their teens, at least as far as emo is concerned, all I can think is: one day, they’re going to look back and cringe. much as my generation looks back and shudders at our obsession with boy bands and silver eye glitter, or the generations before and their yen for big hair and acid washed jeans. one day they’ll laugh too.
Agreed, boy bands are cringe worthy. I guess not everyone was as fashionable as me growing up. Also… WUTANG!
Bad Guy You Pompous Fuck
Sweet… I’ve finally been called pompous. Rocafella… Rocafella… Rocafella… WUTANG!
Hedgy: glad to hear you’re only poking fun. Sometimes it’s hard to tell when people are serious with this stuff and when they’re just having a joke. When a group of people are on the receiving end of these comments repeatedly from a general point of view(not just from you), we can be a little touchy. That being said, true enough about emo’s, they’ll end up growing out of that phase. It’s this generation’s trendy outsider look. However, goth is so much more than just a way of dressing and the only ones that’ll grow out of it are the ones that never really “got it” and are just pretenders. They don’t know anything about the culture anymore than your kind do. Defining goth here would take way too long, but simply put, it’s more about the things we like when it comes to art, music, movies, and books. We see beauty in the darker side to things and aren’t afraid to express ourselves in that way. It’s not about being depressed or desiring death. We tend to be dramatic and express ourselves in ways that normal people find scary, so they label us freaks to ease their minds rather than try to understand it. Yes, it is predominantly teens that are obvious goths, but a lot of that is simply because the only time people are really free to dress however they want is when they’re young. Once we hit the real world, we have to put away our velvet frock coats and red eyeshadow and dress suitably to work. It’s only a lucky few that can continue the look well into their adult years. But, despite not looking goth anymore, we’re still that way inside because it’s a part of us and we know that being goth is not about wearing black 100% of the time, it’s who we are.
hedgy darling you got the bitch of the week!! you actually motivated someone to bitch about ya!! congrats darling! luv it.
I also think hedgy sally field said it best when she was nominated for not without my daughter “they love me , they really love me”
PS anyone I know from here going to reflections for pride week? as I remember they got awesome dj’s there.
not thrilled with this years line up of dj’s hence me going home for a week
sonny d was spinning tonight – he’s a really good thumpy house dj. don’t know what else they have going on tomorrow night.
Allow me to bow to the almighty Hedgy!!I wann be JUST LIKE YOU when I grow up *sniff sniff*.Come on….FREE SPEECH PEOPLE!!!! If you want to draw attention to yourself (your whole point), you’re GOING to!!!! I have no doubt there are very nice goth people. If one of you smiled sometime, we might try and get to know you. I still remember Amy Collins. Anyone else remember Amy and her story?? She was goth. Wonderful story written by Lezlie Lowe a while ago, and while Amy was extremely troubled, she had a heart under there. I did get to see a little of it before she tragically died. ((She had a heart condition, BTW…..while drugs didn’t help, they didn’t kill her either)).
as much as i like sonny d, i need something a little more “not so technoish”,not quite top 40 per se, but funkier housier shit.
do people still use that word, “techno”?i do like the funky house, but i also enjoy progressive house. depends on the dj i guess but sonny knows how to get a crowd moving
shit, now i wanna go out.
techno to me is anything that sounds majority digital. Regardless if it is progressive, elctro, trance, d n b, if it doesnt have that real instrument sound, it falls in the tech catergory.
That was Norma Rae, Ging. Here’s my issue with goth: all of you ugly boys seriously, sincerely need to stop dressing like The Crow every Halloween. You thought long hair would make you more attractive, but you were wrong. Brandon Lee had great bone structure beneath that makeup, and you look like the bastard child of a clown and a rat who fucked at a Bauhaus gig. Not festive.
Yeah I figured that’s what you meant. That’s how most people use the word I guess, a catch-all instead of “electronica.” But techno is a pretty specific 80s genre of electronic music – hard, somewhat futuristic or industrial, usually very monotonous (in a good dancy way of course)…and Sonny D definitely doesn’t spin it.
Looked it up. Seems they have their usual Saturday night DJ, who is just monstrously bad. A shame.
~Thank-you~
The Beav thanks dude! hubby told me sally field pffffffft what does he know…regardless i enjoyed the pride parade! will go next year
ok, for the last time- I wasn’t ‘victimizing’ anyone, so Lilac didn’t need anyone to stand up for her and I don’t need Kay telling me in other posts I’m looking for victims……yeesh take a joke people…………..
thanks Beav I’m not a huge sally field fan but obviously hubby is snicker…i’ll stick with the x files movie!
It WAS Sally Field, Gingy, the movie was Norma Rae.I can’t follow all of the genre branch-offs. Techno, house, trip-hop, ambient, chill, deep house… what does it all mean? Goth used to be called punk and alternative. Siouxsie and the Banshees are goth royalty, but Siouxsie is known as the grandmother of punk. M. Manson is a goth hero, but his music is industrial rock. And the Misfits look gothic, but their music is punk. Makes it hard to get dressed in the morning, so I just listen to lots of different stuff and wear whatever I want, and thank God and four more white people that I’m not a teenager anymore.
Hedgyhog from the great response you left on my bitch i appreciate you and you should be proud to be posted in the bitch a post just for you!
aww thanks jane 🙂 ILYSOTC!
