Please don’t comment on what food I’m purchasing.
I don’t have the munchies. Don’t make a sarcastic comment about how I’ll be “eating healthy” tonight.
I’M BULIMIC.
When you say things like that you have no idea what state of mind the customer is in and how much it hurts my already crushed self esteem. I know I’m not overweight so you think it’s funny to make these comments. Do you know how many times I’ve wanted to grab you by the collar and scream at you?
Just stop it – you’re being paid to ring through my order or purchases, NOT to comment on them.
Thanks.
Just a girl

  1. When I used to be a grocery cashier, I used to comment all the time on how delicious some of the customer’s food looked, because HAY I like food and some of that shit is just mouthwatering when it comes through the cash…it’s TORTURE to be a cashier at a grocery store when you’re hungry. damnnnnn.

  2. I work as a server.. I never make bad/rude comments about the food of my establishment that would turn the costumers off.. I make recommendations when asked, I tell my costumers “enjoy”, etc. If you are so sensitive, you should stay home and hide while you binge/purge like a good bulimic.

  3. Ya know what? Fuck you OP. How was the cashier supposed to know if you were bulimic? Is it something you’re proud of, that you tout as an handy coping mechanism? Nobody wants to hear that shit. Though I agree, the cashier has no biznatch being up in your eating habits…that’s rude.

  4. Bulimic women tend to be chaotic and tend to turn everyday interactions into a “victimization”. Get some Help OP. Bulimia is a fatal disease.

  5. What pisses me off is that there are people in this city starving for lack of food – people like the OP need a fucking big boot to the arse. Go get some goddamn therapy and get over yourself.

  6. I’m with lovinglife here… Bulimia is fatal in most cases. Get help, and don’t worry about what people say… Which is your problem to begin with.

  7. Bulimic or not I fucking hate it when cashiers make comments on the things I am buying. Either talk to me about something else or shut the fuck up. I came to buy groceries, not to learn that you hate mushroooms. UGH!

  8. The last time a checkout girl told me as a vegetarian , on principal she hated meat. I asked her what she thought of cock…no kidding 🙂
She shut up & hasn’t spoken to me since.

  9. TTFN, do you figure any of people in this city starving from lack of food are in that position because mental illness has made it difficult to retain employment and purchase food? Do they need a boot in the ass too? Bulimia is a mental illness, not something you just need to “get over yourself” to cure. Bulimia is not about “what other people say” about you, either, Dr Fever. It is about control and compulsive behaviours. It has more in common with OCD than with low self esteem. People seem to think that because it is largely women that suffer from eating disorders that they are all just “in their heads”, like some sort of modern day hysteria. They are NOT. These are real, psychological and physiological diseases.
And Dino, if you agree that the cashier has no business commenting on the OP’s purchase, then why the fuck you? OP seemed to be using her particular problem as an example of why the cashier shouldn’t do something you both agree is wrong. Ofcourse the cashier didn’t know she was bullimic-that’s the pont. You never know a stranger’s situation, so mocking their choices is never ok. I wonder, is telling mentally ill people to go fuck themselves something that YOU wear as a badge of honor?

  10. I understand where your coming from, I hate this too. I try to remind myself that to a ‘normal’ person, the cashiers comments would be considered friendly chit chat.
It’s hard though- if I’m going into a store to get binge food I’m already in a state of full blown flustered panic, so any and everything can seem earth shattering.

Just a Girl, it’s hard to ignore the feelings that are brought up when someone comments on you &/or your purchases- but most of the time it is innocent.

When a cashier tells me I’m going to have to lick lettuce for a week after what looks like a lips to hips meal, well, then I think anyone is entitled to be upset. Eating Disorder or not.
