I have just about had it with you cycling morons in your little zip-up spandex suits that REFUSE to move over even an inch on the road because you think you are a “Vehicle”. Are you so self involved that you are willing to get splattered by vehicles coming up behind you just to make your point? There has not yet been a bike designed that can tango with a car or truck and win. It’s only a matter of time before your dumb ass connects with someone’s windshield. Cars and trucks have nowhere else to go. That’s why a ROAD was built for US…not you.
Oh yeah..one more thing: Does the phrase “single file” mean anything to you? If you must insist on pedalling all over hell’s creation and becoming road hazards, can you at least do it single file? One of these days, you are going to cause a really bad accident. So knock it the hell off already.

I can’t believe some people! They ride their bikes on roads and get bitched, ride their bikes on sidewalks and get bitched. Fuck, haven’t they figured out that they are a nuisance! Why haven’t they made bikes illegal yet!

What you should really do is lobby your government to remove the section of the driver’s handbook that says that cyclists should stay as far to the right as possible BUT may take up as much as the driving lane as they feel necessary to remain safe.
So if a cyclist is taking up the entire lane,..well tough shit for you because all they’re doing is following the rules.
And if it makes you mad then i hope it isn’t a family member or good friend of yours who you run down from behind.
Most cyclists aren’t too concerned or “self-involved” regarding cars coming up behind them because they know that less then 1% of bike/car collisions occur that way.
If a cyclist was run down from behind then it proves that the motorist is blind and should be barred from driving or the motorist decided to run a fellow citizen down on purpose. I believe that would be manslaughter.
The large majority of car/bike collisions occur at intersections when cars turn in front of the cyclists.

As a former road cyclist (serious speed), let me remind your entitled ass that it can be DEVASTATING when we hit the shoulder at any amount of speed, especially on a road bike. Obviously, this really applies to rural areas, where there is gravel, but in the city itself I’m sure tire versus curb is not so hot either. Also, the roads here (and most places I’m sure) are shit, and sometimes we need to travel further into the road if there are a lot of cracks near the edge- our little tires fit perfectly in those cracks and can seriously injure us if we hit one. Furthermore, having known many cyclists, I can’t say I’ve ever met even one who was “self involved”, unless you think trying to stay alive is self involved, in which case, fuck you asshole. Unfortunately, bikes are slower than cars, and yes, sometimes it’s “inconvenient” for you to have to wait to pass at times. But seeing as it’s prohibited for city bikers to ride on the sidewalk, lest we get bitched out again, then fucking deal with it. We have to deal with stupid drivers as well, who for some reason think they can lurk dangerously close to our rear tires to “make a point” as you put it, or as bikeman said, turn in front of us at the last minute. Sorry, but you are a prick.

The roads were originally there for pedestrians, horses (with or without carriages), and maybe even the odd bicycle…before any of your fancy modern automobiles.

bikeman…simple percentages would dictate that there would be more bitches concerning moronic drivers rather than bikers. not really an effective means to show that bikers are more intelligent while on the roads. im sure if it was scientifically studied, the RATIO of smart to dumb motorists would be rather similar to that of bikers.
I’d like to add to bikeman and justsayin’s posts to say that riding far to the right – especially in HRM – is a good way to get doored. Very few people check their mirror or look over their shoulder before flinging their car door open. My brother got a broken shoulder and another acquaintance is on permanent disability for being doored. And is no shortage of assholes who park and/or drive in the bike lanes…few though they may be.
Bikes do not belong on the road. There is not enough room for them to be safe. And that is just all there is too it!

And do you know how wide the average car is and how wide the average street is? And how do you figure the roads are not wide enough for both? Through experience or are you just pulling that out of your fat ass as usual?
Seriously,..I’m really wondering how you arrived at that conclusion because i ride a bike and i drive a car and I’m just not sure how you figure that’s true because reality seems to be quite different. I”m sure there are narrow streets that have trouble accommodating both but you make it sound like all the roads in HRM are narrow cow paths.

Yeah, it’s all been said before here on LTWWB. I’d like to know why some of that economic stimulation package doesn’t put a bunch of people to work building bike paths… put the bikes where they belong and where they’re safe cause they’re the worst kind of bitches.
It’d be wonderful if we had chicane dividers between the bikes and cars like they do in Montreal. My son and I often ride our bikes on the sidewalks because having a kid under ten in the street riding a bike in this city is pretty much trying to defy death at times.
I feel for cyclists as I am one also – but I also have to drive a car to work every day as I live too far away from where I work to cycle. There is really no happy medium – I try to watch out for cyclists but it is HARD with the BEYOND SHITTY pavement in Halifax – not only is there barely enough room for two cars there is ALSO BEYOND HUGE pothols to avoid – I am seriously thinking about forwarding my car repair bill to the city for the damage the city streets have done to my car!
I am an avid cyclist and frequently drive my bicycle 34 km round trip to work from Bedford to Halifax. I drive a bike with the proper wide tires made for narrow city/town roads so I can actually drive all the way over to the right and not 3-4 feet into lanes (where cars have to drive) because these cyclists “need” skinny racing tires that can’t take a pothole, storm grate or the slightest pebble (you’re not trying out for the Olympics, people). Also, it pisses me off to see bike club cyclists on their weekend runs where they ride 2-3 beside each other in a pack (we’ve all seen them) . Despite my gentle beeping of my horn (when I do drive a car) they refuse to get into a single file ( for their own safety) . Yes, cars and bikes need to share the road (emphasis on “share”)as we are both entitled to drive on them – but as cyclists, we have to show a little common sense . Please ride as far to the right as possible, have the right tires for doing so and please (for your own safety) ride single file.
