Unfortunately this is a bitch about The Coast, whoever does the reports in your music articles, its time to move on. Halifax has a strong music scene and all you write about is the same indi crap ( I’m sorry). I appreciate the artists talent , but you’re are milking this scene dry. What about Punk and Metal, basically anything that’s not Feist or the one hundred artists you write about who sound like her. Find something else to write about. The Coast is essential to Halifax so try to represent the entire city, not just the hipster music lovers who I hate. Take off your scarf and your pointy leather shoes and find another style of music.

  1. Yeah! I think this bitch could easily be turned in a staff bitch about bitchers like this. There is only so much space to cover everything, but a quick look into the music and movie archives, typing in the word “Metal” would reveal a bunch of articles and blog posts in the last 3 months about metal and the harder stuff. Just ’cause there was In the Dead of Winter recently which is mostly singer-songwriters and Jenn Grant on the cover this week does not mean we only cover indie music.

  2. I wear pointy leather shoes and a scarf sometimes. Does that make me a indy music supporter? I’m a metalhead from way back… This dude really just needs to read the Coast more. Problem with the local scene for metal is that I find it’s all pretty well nu-metal or just plain weird. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, or I just like my BLS way too much.

  3. Hilarious, I just watched the rick mercer report, he was in nfld with fiest at a tour, i watched for the scarf…it was there,…then when the camera man panned out,… the pointy brown leather shoes…lol. Fiest actually seems like a good head though

  4. yeah, maybe she should just stop writting about her friends bands and actually start writting about all bands that play in halifax.

  5. @ laura

“yeah, maybe she should just stop writting about her friends bands and actually start writting about all bands that play in halifax.”

That’s impossible. How long have you lived in Halifax? Every scene here is about friends. The Music scene, the Arts scene, the Film scene…how do you think the Atlantic Film Fest makes their selections? They pick out what their friends send in and send sorry letters to the rest. Nothing new here.

  6. My final straw was when they reviewed the Rhythm Method … and they were serious. And they gave them a good review. Holy fucking loss of credibility Batman!

  7. I think it’s interesting the OP refers to “the same indi crap”. What a total musical moron! Hey buddy, if you want the same ol’ same ol’ just stay home and listen to your mainstream radio. That way you can’t be surprised or subject to anything new or different. The only commonality between indie musicians is their bank accounts and little more.

The OP also suggests Halifax has a strong music scene. Buddy, again, you’re talking out the side of your head unless you’ve visited the basements and home recording studios of many. Just go ahead and book a band in the “strong music scene” and see if you can’t earn enough money to pay even the cheapest of rents. The problem is there are very few places to play. So, yes, the market becomes saturated in a heartbeat and you’re playing twice perhaps three times a year just to maintain a “draw” and to “keep it fresh”. What’s so strong about that? NOTHING.

Finally, if you want to see what a “strong” music scene the region offers check out the Maritime Idol regional finalists (gag). THIS is the best the region has to offer. Give up. There is NO MUSIC SCENE in the Maritimes and that’s why big bands just don’t bother.

  8. im a scarf-wearing, not-so-pointy-leather-shoes-stomping fella who enjoys all the indie stuff like feist, stars, the postal service and iron and wine. but then again, im the freak blasts napalm death, darkthrone, combatwoundedveteran, and merzbow at full volume on a tuesday night to the delight of my neighbours.
sure, the loud scene is not the focus of the coast. but it never is the point of the main alternative publication in any city. just be glad the coast is as broad as it is.

  9. Miles I always have admired your charitable and foregiving approach to others… If anything you are the voice of reason that is the antithesis of kay… So however you choose to roll with it, is okay by me… I would just hate to see you get sucked in by her neanderthal rants…

Random Desi-ism Generator: Then there’s the “jock” type guys who like to eye my girlfriend constantly even when I’m standing right beside her…, almost challenging me. Well listen here you fuckers…., she ain’t gonna’ be talking me out of beating you within a breath of your life too many more times. I feel bad for all woman
