Ok – I get it – I work in an office. We have a pretty slack / non existant dress code. Why is it that when me or my coworkers wear a tie, suit etc. everyone makes a big deal about how great we look? Yea, I look alright in the banana republic dress shirt that I got at Frenchy’s, and the tie I got on clearance at Sears, but seriously, I think I looked a lot better in the Abercrombie henley and sweet ass Buffalo jeans – but no, no compliments then.
Why is it expectd that guys should wear a “shirt and tie” to an office job? Shirt and tie was dressey – back in 1979. There are so, so so soooo many other options to dress nicely and stylishly that doesnt involve struggling with a piece of fabric tied around your neck. And don’t even get me started on trying to put the crease in “dress pants” that never seem to fit right, even when taylored.
I don’t spend my time droning on in a stuffy cubicle so I can go waste my money on outfits that I can wear to work and only to work. So please, stop looking down your nose at me when I am wearing a nice t-shirt to work. Stop looking at my legs when I come in wearing a comfortable and stylish pair of jeans. Oh, and by the way – a blazer with jeans is way hotter than any “shirt and tie” combination you can come up with – unless its Beckham’s shirt and tie he’s taking it off. For fuck sake – its not 1975 any more.
I refuse to spend money on clothes that can only be worn to work. Thats a waste. If you want me to wear a uniform (shirt and tie is a uniform in my opinion) then let me know what store has our expense account. Otherwise, let it be.
PS> Save the “Boo hoo, you have a job”, “dont like it quit”, “You had two spaces between two words instead of one”, “Brand whore shopping at A n F” type responses, please and thanks.

I hate to burst your bubble, but a dress shirt and tie can lot “way hotter” then a t-shirt and jeans sometimes.
Besides, do you ever hear the women in your office complaining about how they feel they need to wear their nicely cut pencil skirt or dress pants and heels?
I can see why it would be a pain, but at least you don’t have to wear a polo that says “shoppers drug mart.”
Sounds kind of odd that they’d be bothering to look sideways at your clothes if you have a “slack/nonexistant” dress code. Maybe they think that despite the lack of dress code you should dress “professionally.” Problem is people think that everyone does and should share their own idea of what professionalism looks like. But when the management has made it clear that you’re on your own, it kind of sounds like your coworkers are bored at their jobs or something and your occasional “fancy” dress livens up their day. Kind of reminds me of when I’m walking down the street and some random guy tells me to smile. MYOFB.
I’m torn on this one. While I find that a guy can be hot in jeans and what not, I have to say a lot of the hotter guys around Scotia Square are in suits or dress pants and dress shirt. That is not to say a nice pair of jeans and a blazer isn’t hot either.
Also, there is nothing wrong with being a brand whore, you get quality for your money.
Yeah, I don’t really get this…are you bitching about the compliments you get when you dress “fancy” at work?
Last time I checked “you look nice today” wasn’t something to bitch about.
It’s funny you’re already preemptively counter bitching the responses to your bitch, which to me is an indicator that you know you’re wrong. If you work in a professional atmosphere, you should be dressing to suit it (pun intended). Your “stuffy little cubicle” does not entitle you to some form of dress code freedom, just because you feel opressed. If I were a client and walked into your office and saw you in a t-shirt and jeans, say on a Tuesday, I would definitely be questioning the professionalism of your firm/company. I too work in an office, but I also spend a lot of time in the shop, so I am fortunate enough to be able to wear jeans and a dress shirt. But this dress code was discussed and agreed upon in advance with my boss. And if you can’t go out after work in your “work clothes” than you’re either one hell of a slacker or you’ve got terrible taste in clothes. So suck it up and deal princess, you’re not that hard done by. Put on your shirt and tie, go sit in your cubicle and be a good little drone.
But….he said there was pretty much no dress code…I’m assuming that also means no “unofficial” dress code, besides the usual minimum requirements (don’t come to work in PJs; bathe). I think the OP was just annoyed that coworkers were implying that he was dressed unprofessionally, when there was nothing wrong with the way he was dressing. If dressing to impress clients was an important part of the job, then obviously there would be a dress code. If there’s no dress code, you’re not dressing like a slob, and you’re doing your job well, people shouldn’t be implying there’s something wrong with your conduct.
Also I have been in a job before with a casual dress code, and people were complimented when they were dressed “nice” for whatever reason, but there was no implication that when they weren’t dressed “nice” there was anything unprofessional about it. I think that’s the difference the OP is trying to get at.
Basically he’s mad because no one compliments him when he dresses like a frat boy. I compliment people I know when they’re dressed up, not because they don’t look nice on a daily basis, but because they’ve gone that extra mile and put on a suit, which is rare to me. Do you compliment the girls in the office when they come in wearing jeans and a tshirt instead of a nice dress? Maybe you’re just feeling self conscious about your less dressy clothes, which makes you think everyone is staring at you, when in fact they’re just looking at you like they would any other time, but not complimenting you on your every move.
By the way,
Abercrombie…..barf!! What is so fucking cool about ‘Abercrombie”?!
Really, Scoob! Isn’t it all about American Eagle, Tap Out and other lame printed shirts? lol
who’s a narcisistic little fucker then…..they probably thought you just got back from court on SGR in your suit.
If I pay more than $50 a year on work clothes, I’m splurging. The pencil-necked boss will not allow any casual wear so I envy you, sweetcakes. And who gives a sweet flying fuck what anyone else thinks of your clothes? The day I worry about that will be the day I grow an oak tree out of my forehead.
T-shirt and jeans aren’t really professional looking, and don’t say much about your work attitude. Don’t be surprised if you get passed over for shit by dressing like it’s your day off.
Because we all know that your work ethic is directctly correlated with the amount of fabric draped over your body…lol…. I am siding with the poster on this one – down with the tie, and the man and the man wearing the tie!
I beg with a passion to disagree. A well dressed man in a fresh suit/shirt and tie is the sexiest thing in existence.
Yeah NGF, and how about his “sweet ass Buffalo jeans”! Ok, so it’s really clear he’s his very own biggest fan. I bet his Buffalo jeans are covered with strategically- placed fade marks, rips and those over-sized pockets placed extra-low on the ass. OOOOOh, so sexy!!! Once again… barf!!! And his Abercrombie t-shirt is extra tight around the chest. Don’t you just love that type?
Dino, I knew I could count on you!
There is nothing better then a tight ass in a tight pair of dress pants!
Can you say walking sex?!

I never feel better about myself when I’m in my suit. You can’t beat a suit!
“Sweet ass Buffalo jeans”…….haha, what a cunt.
ustwess: You only get one chance at a first impression.
Yes, that’s why you wear a suit, tie, nice pants nad shoes to the interview, make the impression, land the job and then get down to business. Last I checked, a piece of cloth that took 20 minutes to get straight and tied around your neck doesn’t affect your ability to do your job better. In fact, I’d be curious to see studies (I am sure they exist) about productivity related to dresscode….
Dino, now that’s a man!
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a buffalo looking good in jeans.
Ust: I’m not against casual clothing in the workplace, but say, I’d see khakis as much more professional than bluejeans and still comfy.
I got that at my last job too. On my last day there, I came in with the shirt/tie combo, just to get noticed. Man did I hate that job.
Now, I wear uniforms. Such is life. Roll with it.
Haha – Dino, so funny, when I first read this bitch I thought “I need to post a photo of Beckham in a suit, damn!”. I tried to find a link that would take direct to the photo that I was thinking of, but this was the best I could do:

Thanks for that, Should be Working; I most enjoyed the one with the rope though…
no,its because your lazy to plan what your going to wear the next day, maybe because your too busy skateboading or video gaming…GROW UP and act professional….You are a reflection of the company you work for…the ME generation has a lot of growing up to do…you are part of a team, remember that before you post another embarassing
“why me” whine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t think you used enough exclamation points, mentor. 30-40 more will really get your point across.
Ha, you’re welcome Mole Rat (and the rest of the LTWWB readers). I guess the addition of the ‘rope picture’ kind of negated my ‘men look great in suits’ argument. The no suit picture took the cake.
Let’s just conclude David Beckham is a sexpot.
