To the asshole who smashed in the window to our new (and first) car to steal two bags, behind the Welsford. Hope it was worth the $70 and my $15 sunglasses. Now I have to pay to have the window fixed and the seal around the window that you wrecked while unsuccessfully trying to unlock the door. How could you do that to someone? GET A LIFE!
Also to the HR Police who did nothing. I tried to call the ‘non emergency line’ about 90 times over a 2 day period to report the incident with no answer or a busy signal.
Also to the dispatcher to answered my call and gave me the ‘non emergency’ number for your COMPLETE lack of empathy . I realize you get these calls all day long, but it feels really shitty when you feel that violated and not even the police care. I work in costumer service and even if I’ve heard a complaint a thousand times I still have to show empathy!
P.S. I found all my stuff in a garbage can in the commons, full of dirt and dog shit, you prick.

Sucks that that happened but don’t leave stuff in your car. You learned a valuable lesson. Be happy it wasn’t more expensive stuff, it obviously wasn’t of any real value or you wouldn’t have found it in the trash.
That’s hideous. Really though, don’t leave stuff in your car that you don’t want stolen otherwise. Stuff like this is bound to happen.
I know someone whose car has gotten broken into in Nova Scotia at least half a dozen times over its 12 year history. He eventually got an alarm for it, but the one time he didn’t bother setting it because he was only away for 10 minutes in broad daylight in south end Halifax, guess what happened? Yep, broken into again!
Be thankful you don’t live in Surrey, BC – the car break-in / theft capital of Canada (though I heard Winnipeg has taken over now).
I have had my car broken into 3 times in the last 2 years. The first time I lost about 50 cd’s and my bf’s work id and debit. The next couple times all I lost were some penny’s and dimes. Don’t leave shit in your car! It sucks feeling violated. I feel your pain.
CRACK HEADS DON’T KNOW HOW TO ADD, JUST STEAL AND SELL.
My first car break-in in Halifax resulted in the stereo being torn out of the dash and a full book of about 100 CDs from the trunk which had been hidden under a blanket. Guess I deserved that one, having left the car in the overnight lot of a car rental shop (assholes knew I wouldn’t probably be back there to pick it up til the next day). I called the only police number I could see in the phone book (not sure if it was emergency or not) but got an answer right away. They told me there wasn’t much they could do unless I had my stereo’s serial number and searched out the pawn shops myself.
Second time I got broken into, I had been in the parking lot of a restaurant on Kempt Road and only run in to pick up TAKE-OUT food! Obviously the dick(s) were waiting nearby and watching cars from a hidden spot, so saw their opportunity, smashed my back window and stole my boyfriend’s work laptop from under the seat. Obviously he wouldn’t have left it there if we were going to be gone long, but the five minutes max…shows how professional these scum are. I WISH I had gotten back and caught them in the act.
I’ve lived in Toronto now for a couple of years and haven’t had it happen to me here so far – knock on wood.
I feel your pain. I hope it’s some consolation to know that karma bites..with fangs. I’ve seen it happen too many times not to believe that somewhere along the line, people do get what’s coming to them.
Just a tip: cars parked behind the welsford overnight ALWAYS get broken into. It happened to me last fall, and even worse, the 6 cars next to mine all had thier windows smashed, too. Since then I’ve heard two other people tell me similar stories, with the thiefs taking something as insignificant as 3 bus tokens.
If you need to park overnight, try one street over, in front of a house. If it looks like the owner might be just inside (and able to hear the sound of glass smashing), there’s a lower chance of getting robbed.
