Hockey players are not above the law. If I go down the street and elbow someone in the face causing them to have convulsions; I go to jail- this could be called attempted murder- done with intent. Six month suspentions are bs.- 25 years in prison is what’s called for.

Yeah and there are at least a dozen other videos of Mr Elbow on youtube. And his team thinks that the suspension is EXTREME!! The only thing that is extreme is his attitude. I vote to give him some sweet, well deserved jail time really close to Quebec!
you can’t run up and tackle someone on the street but football would be pretty fucking boring if the pro’s played ‘touch’
it’s part of the game and they assign punishment accordingly.
just because it’s not up to you on how severe it is is irrelevant.
based on the rate he’s paid, he took quite a blow there as I’m pretty sure he won’t get his salary on a suspension.
I also think you wouldn’t be fined that kinda coin if you did it on the streets to joe the plumber either.
If anything his penalty was worse.
I went to fight once and a hockey game broke out .
I thought he was banned from the league indeffinately…..I thought that was about right!
He shouldn’t be playing hockey with all that anger anyway, he should take up boxing…there are places for violence in sports, lets just put him in a ring or cage where he’ll recieve what he’s handing out! I’d like to see it.
Football = Football
Hockey = Hockey
Football ≠ Hockey
Football rules are for football and hockey rules are for hockey. I’ve looked up the rules of EACH sport and I do not see Elbow to the Chin/Jaw ANYWHERE, therefore I don’t see how it is “part of the game”. Also with the history of his violence he should never play again and he should get jail time for this.
he was suspended for the rest of the year…i bewieve
I’d be charged with assault if I went up to some random guy on the street and started punching, elbowing, kneeing, and kicking him in the face, while yelling “TAP OUT! TAP OUT! TAP OUT motherfucker!” so why should UFC fighters be able to get away with this?
On a side note, do you think I’d look more bad ass if I got a black hoody with the words “TAP OUT” spelled out in big white letters on the back? No one would FUCK with the Qpmzwonxeibcruv!
He’s a dirty motherfucking player – and he deserves never to be back in the Q, or any other league for that matter.
Come on Q…..you’re being an idiot….
You have to be IN the UFC to do this….not just watch it dumb ass. Fighters don’t charge other fighters with asault because that is what they sign up for when the enter the UFC. This is not what one signs up for when the are in Hockey. Are you really that lame….I usually like your posts….
On another note; how about that new hockey player for SMU that was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder… that’s a lil fucked
ok Frenchie, so if I grab a stick and whack buddy when he’s walking to the gap, I should be put in jail for 2 minutes.
run up some old lady walking her dog and check her from behind, 2 minutes in jail.
Sweet!
Why are you not happy with their decision but alright with the penalties from all the other violent actions in every game of hockey?
I will agree what he did was atrocious and wouldn’t condone it either but buddy wasn’t paying attention in a sport that demands it and ended up getting fucked.
He has a history of this kind of uncalled for, unsportsman like behavior and noone has thought to do something about it. I think its disgusting and he should go to jail.
well at least we know he could semi-defend himself..
but that didn’t really answer my question.
hockey is violent in nature… take the violence out of hockey and you would have a completely different game. one, I’m assuming, that wouldn’t last a full season.
There’s always going to be bad apples going to extremes… like Brooks Orpik and his paltry 3 game suspension for breaking buddy’s neck. shit happens.
Mind Snap, if you knew the whole fucked up story about that certain SMU player, maybe you’d understand that a lot of what went down wasn’t really all his fault. There was some forms of fucked up abuse going on for decades leading up to that point, plus he did his time. I’m still not sure how I really feel about it though…
As far as violence in hockey…well that’s been going on forever. It’s not a good game without the fights and big hits, which makes it really hard when something like this happens. Where do we draw the line between penalties and attempted murder. (Cause really the guy almost died)Personnally, I think he should be hung by his balls the dirty fucker but I don’t think we should ban all violence. It’s just really hard when all of us fans condone some violence but not all. I don’t think you should be allowed to smash someone with a stick or hit from behind, but I absolutely love when the gloves come off or a good bench clearing brawl breaks out. Gotta love when the goalies meet eachother at center ice and try to fight with all that gear on.
Hockeys always had fights . Hockey always has dirty players . Thats the game . Didn’t seem to be a problem with hockey fights until someone whined and got someone charged . Hockey wouldn’t be hockey without some fights .
goalie fights are the best…and they usually don’t do much damage
fights are great…..dirty asshole players, not so much!
WHy are they covered in “protective gear then ?
If the gear isn’t “protective enough” UPGRADE THE DAMN GEAR.
I don’t go to a fight to watch them kiss each other !
For those of you who think using what is acceptable in public should be the rules…
They are not in public, they are playing a fast paced, hard hitting sport, & if your problem is with the odd so called dirty hit, or low blow…well then what about when 2 bozo’s drop their gloves & start pounding on each other ?
Its part of the game & if they’re going to penalize you for an entire season for a bad elbow, then why are they not throwing the guy’s who fight toe to toe , out for a season?
Either make it a gentleman’s game & get rid of the padding, change the frozen solid rubber puck to a nice felt one, or a soft tennise ball ! They can all kiss and hold hands …or go back to hockey, like Gordie Howe & the boys played ,the dirtiest elbow player in the history of the sport
So start kissing & taking turns holding each others equipment when the need to pee comes on one of them…Otherwise get in there & beat the other team into submission, & WIN ~;)
Solution: watch Women’s hockey. it seems to demonstrate skill, grace and a degree of sportman(woman?)ship.
And I was Ladies UFC. Swap 30 minutes of sweaty dick punching for purple nurples.

I think that by playing hockey you need to realise you are accepting a certain amount of risk of bodily harm. While I don’t condone vicious attacks out of context of the game, there is a lot of physical contact in hockey and people will be people and clobber each other from time to time.
Besides, we Canadians would be much more violent as a people if we didn’t have hockey to vent.
ladies ufc?
isn’t that like strikeforce on showcase?
“Its part of the game & if they’re going to penalize you for an entire season for a bad elbow, then why are they not throwing the guy’s who fight toe to toe , out for a season?”
Because, More, when 2 hockey players face toe to toe, they’ve both agreed to do so. When a player suckers another with an elbow, the player on the receiving end has no choice and cannot react properly to the blow.
zzz, if you saw the video, the player WAS paying attention, fuckhead- he was watching the play. this guy got off the bench behind the play and skated right at him from the side. ALMOST as pussy as Bertuzzi.
Do any of you whiners even play mens hockey? No? the stfu… Shit happens in a violent sport… we get over it, so will you…
I played hockey into junior A tier two . Thou they were some fights , at that level , fighting was always 5 minutes box . Dirty floor checks and elbows to the head where part of playing hockey . I still play pond hockey and scrub games on public rinks when empty .
In soccer, no violence or contact is allowed on the field.
Ever watch what happens OFF the field as a result?
Soccer rules…Men in short, shorts!
lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala 🙂
you are spot on bmf…man oh man those peoples go right round the twist, i like mascot dust ups
Somebody actually tried to tell me before that fighting in hockey is the same as “fighting for life.” I nearly pissed myself laughing.
There hasn’t been a good fight in hockey in years. Most of the ones I’ve seen lately I equate with bitch slapping. Remember the days of Schultz, Ferguson, etc, where blood was common along with bench clearing, and let’s not forget “Mr Elbows”, Gordie Howe himself.
As for coming up from behind and sucker punching, that’s a whole different ball game. Law Enforcement is not required. What are they going to give them, a thousand dollar fine and some community service? Long term suspensions (remember they don’t get paid while suspended) hurts more than what any court can give them.
Guyute, presence of self on ice isn’t just watching where the fucking puck is… it’s knowing where openings are, who has the puck, where it’s going, who is around you, and when the penalty ends of the guy you’ve been pissing off all game.
fuckhead
and Bro, yep. something tells me he’ll remember losing 7 figures of his salary more than forced community service.
His portfolio will as well.
Excessive violence is in other sports like football all the time. Nobody screams “attempted murder!” when a football player gets tackled and becomes a paraplegic. Violence in sports is an accepted norm in our society. By placing it on trial, and therefore making it a legal issue, we’re questioning it’s status as a “norm”. Problem is, unlike something like actual assault, when you check a player unprovoked, even though it can be considered assault (it’s unprovoked, violent, physical harm) it’s accepted, and is policed within the game, for better or worse. That said, the fact that he will lose his salary for a year, and potentially lose his career, the punishment fits the crime.
We either start charging people with a crime, with every single act of violence, or we don’t at all.
let’s just through all decency away and have Death Race 2000 (old version) or Rollerball….let’s make gladiator sports okay again….
Agreed BRoc. Two guys fighting generally has agreement from both parties. They both drop the gloves and they both swing their fists; therefore equal risk, equal threat, equal accountability. (Except for Carcillo going after Getzlaf, Getzlaf did ask for it but I digress) Every hockey player signs a waiver that “if you die it’s not our/his fault.” You took the risk when you stepped on the ice.
However, whether Tam had his head down or not is immaterial. Cormier went head-hunting and nailed him – and if you read the reports nearly KILLED him. Convulsions, stopped breathing, throat blockage, broken teeth, brain trauma, etc. There’s a good chance his hockey career is over and a good chance his life could have been over.
I’m all for clean hits, finishing your check and the like but when severe injuries are the result of a blatant attempt to injure, then yes, kick Cormier out of hockey. Police the actions within the game and within the league.
Side note: Cormier and Rouyn-Noranda appealing the ruling just shows how little class and remorse he and his team have for nearly killing someone.
they only put real criminals in jail.like jaywalkers, people who spit on sidewalks and shit.they let murderers, and the like shit, walk free.look at melvin the other day, another fucking free pass.
One thing I do know – two people can consent to fight . If those combatants decline to charge eachother – the cops can’t charge . But … you cannot consent to bleed . So if one or both combatants are bleeding they can be charged . Funny shit eh ?I learned the hard way .
And then when you get out you can go to SMU.
