Why am I so fucking sensitive? Almost anything can set me off into tears. I picked up a rock today and it reminded me of someone I really miss so I started to cry! WTF? A rock! Songs make me cry, books make me cry, movies make me cry.

Is there anyone else like this? —Feeling like a kid

  1. Sounds like there may be something going on there that you need some help for. Being sensitive is one thing, and in my books, a good thing, despite what some would have you believe. But, if you’re set off that easily, you should talk to a doctor. It can be a symptom of something larger, such as general anxiety disorder. Or, if you don’t have a healthy outlet for your emotions, they tend to come out in other ways that don’t make a lot of sense, such as crying over a rock. But, basically, get help before it gets worse.

  2. I have days like that… You’ve got some work to do one way or the other – therapy, exercise, hobby, something!

  3. If you are concerned about this OP, a psychologist may help. Investigating personality traits will reveal which of the emotional coping spectrum you are on and help define what is normal for you in terms of emotional response and what, if any, treatment modality would be appropriate for you. Lot’s of people have emotional triggers with memories, movies and books. If you are generally a happy person, who gets naturally emotional, there is probably little cause for concern. Your doctor can help you decide what’s best for you.

  4. I agree with all the comments re: seeing a psychologist. Crying over the stupidest shit is usually an indication of some underlying condition. Probably anxiety-related. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, OP, especially if you go get treatment for it. I used to have roughly the same problem as you. The littlest shit would set me off because I was so anxious (I have generalized anxiety disorder) and would often lead to an anxiety attack. I had no idea this wasn’t “normal” until I was 21 or so because I was like this my entire life. Shit, I remember sitting on the bus one day and all of a sudden being scared out of my mind for absolutely no reason and I ended up bursting into tears. I sympathize. Until you can learn how to deal with it, you may find a benzo like klonopin (clonazepam) in a very small dose will help. After a lot of hard work in therapy, I’ve conquered my GAD and feel great. No more issues with anxiety!

  5. being a newer, kinder, and gentler life sucks, i kind of agree that a lot of things can remind you of a past happy event, or a sad one. you may need to see someone, but not nessisarily a shrink. talk to an analyst, and find out where the problem really lies. you might have had a very traumatic event somewhere in your past, that you have regreeded so far back, that some little stupid and silly thing brings it out. whether they be good or bad, we all have our own personal demons to contend with. hope that you can whip the shit out of yours. good luck o.p., from the suckster.

  6. Op I don’t know if you’re a guy or gal, but man I switched birth controls and it messed me up like that. Doesn’t help if you’re stressed out either. If you think it’s something that can’t be overcome by trying to relax or picking up a new hobby, definitely see the doctor. There may be some homeopathic remedies as well, but ask a professional. Nobody needs to feel sad like that all the time, you deserve to be happy.
