This bitch is directed at two things: 1) nervous bikers that take to the sidewalk 2) this city’s lack of bikelanes, forcing nervous bikers to take to the sidewalk. So there I am, minding my own business, blissfully dancing my way to work care of J.Plaskett’s snappy tunes when out of the blue—FLASH—a bike sweeps past me on the sidewalk with no warning, scaring the bejeesus outta me and causing me to lose my balance! I know that there are no bikes lanes in most of this damned city, I know that you too, Mr. Biker are scared to drive on the street (I would be too!) but that doesn’t give you the right to transfer your fear to innocent pedestrians. Either use your bike properly on the street, or perhaps you should be walking as well. There is but one obvious solution, but until the HRM provides those desperately needed bikelanes, if you are riding the 2-wheeled beast please remember that the sidewalks are for walkers and lovers, and not for scardy-pants bikers! —Walky McDancewalker

  1. If you’re that nervous that you can’t drive on the road, you shouldn’t be biking.

Bikers gotta follow the rules of the road just like drivers.

People’d be outraged if a car drove on the side walk if they were ‘too nervous’ to drive on the road… why don’t people get all outraged at bikes doing the same?

  2. Maybe because the likelihood of a sidewalk biker hitting and killing someone is 0.0001% the chance of a sidewalk car hitting and killing someone.

  3. bikes exist in a no man’s land where the roads nor sidewalks are not fully designed for them.

My suggestion is simple: pedestrians, drivers, and bikers need to calm down and start offering others small gestures of courtesy even when they don’t feel like it.

    enough said.

  4. IF you weren’t so fucking stupid to be out on the sidewalk with your hearing turned off !
That’s what sticking earbuds with cranked music into your tiny little brain does for you….IT TURNS OFF YOUR ABILITY TO HEAR SOUNDS AROUND YOU !

Important , some times sudden unexpected sounds….
Sounds like ….. LOOK OUT !
The sound of tires on concrete coming up behind you
If you have decided to make yourself deaf to the sounds of the world when you should be being aware of whats around you, I wish you a quick death. Just to help the gene pool out, hopefully you haven’t successfully bred yet !

IF you really want to have fun, try dressing completely in black putting on a blindfold at night & go walking down the streets (secondary highways would be perfect)on rainy nights would be even better !

  5. Ah keep your headphones on….I’m a big fan of the dancewalk – jiggle jiggle all the way home. Just think if everyone in HRM dancewalked everywhere, how happy everyone would be and how awesome a city we would live in!

  6. No fool that’s not a bad thought , the death of completewly unaware idiots would go up…the gene poool would be better off.
    Great idea.

  7. the smart thing to do o.p., is to find a place where there are either no sidewalks, or only one. then go to side that has none. bikers are too lazy to jump up on grass.

  8. OP, you need one of those bike helmets with the attached mirror so nobody sneeks up on you.

  9. Use the road, the sidewalk is for pedestrians, the disabled and kids in carriages.
We don’t need bike lanes, we need cyclists who follow the rules and assert their rights.

  10. I love how some people love to blame the person who isn’t at fault for the work of someone who clearly is. First of all, who cares what type of music the OP was listening to, “folks”, and secondly, a person can choose to listen to music while walking if they want as long as they don’t block the entire sidewalk for people who walk faster than them and for the possibility of people in wheelchairs who will want to pass them. Not being able to hear has nothing to do with the fact that a biker shouldn’t be on the sidewalk.

I’m a biker as well but it pisses me off to see bikers on the sidewalk. They don’t belong there and add to the already too-large of a target on the backs of all bikers for those who are out to get all of us.

  11. Here on Bayers Rd. there are dozens of the cowards riding on the sidewalk. It is nothing for me and child to get almost hit by these Biking “cowards”. Love to kick the shit out of them for a change. You have multiple wheels, keep it on the road, and bike lanes be damned.
