A while ago, two men in their 20s walked into a bar on a Saturday night. It was a relatively quiet Saturday night, headlined by a Blues band, the name of which I can’t recall now. The pair looked and acted out of place. Staring down other patrons, obviously and intentionally invading others’ personal space, everything about their bullshit wanna-be-gangster attitude suggested they weren’t there for the music but just to pick a fight with some guy dumb enough not to realize exactly that.

Later in the evening, I was standing outside having a smoke minding my own business when these two delinquents joined me outside. They did not have the sense to confine themselves to the sidewalk as most pedestrians do, instead standing in the middle of the street. It was at that point that a cop car drove by slowly. Rather than getting the fuck out of the way, these idiots moved slightly out of the way and one of them KICKED the cop car. Yes, ‘kicked’, as in using one’s foot to exert force against an object or person. The kick was obviously hard enough, as the cop car actually stopped. “Finally we’ll be rid of these morons” I thought. I was wrong.

The cruiser, which was manned by two officers, merely came to a brief stop, one of the officers stuck his head out of the window and said something along the lines of “Watch yourself” and just drove off.

You fucking pussies. These guys were obviously disrespecting you, your profession, and everything you stand for. You did… nothing. You just took it like some little bitch. You were either too scared or lazy to get out of the car, I don’t care, whatever the reason, you’re a fucking disgrace to what you call a police “force”.

This is why people are shooting and stabbing each other almost every fucking day in this little city. They know you just can’t be bothered to really give a shit and get up off your asses and actually do something effective to stop the violence. You let these two hoodlums walk all over you, sending a signal of indifference or worse, you actually gave the impression of being intimidated by these two fucktards.

Your jobs aren’t just to administer traffic checks on weekdays (how many violators are you catching anyway during commute hours?) or to pull people over for talking on their cell phones. We have a major problem here. People are fucking dying and you are the people WE pay to get that shit under control. To serve and “protect” – yeah right. —Reason #426 to Leave Halifax

  1. Ummm you can’t really arrest somebody just for kicking a cop car (or any car, for that matter).

  2. you can’t? good to know.
that’s what’s going down when people block the crosswalks from now on.

  3. Sure you can, its called vandalism. I suspect the bigger issue is that there was no revenue in it. For the most part police are little more than tax colectors for the welfare state. They are incapable of doing anything to prevent most cirmes against property, but they are verry effective at running the road-side check looking for expired registrations and safety inspections. They can’t catch the marauding swarmers in central halifax, but if you leave your car parked on the street during winter-parking ban, they are all over it!

  4. So if I *accidently* punched someone in the face. and it doesn’t leave a mark then everything should be ok right? lol

I think it is call picking and choosing your battles, and it isn’t worth the cops time to get out and argue over some kid kicking a car.

  5. If you punch someone in the face, that’s called assault. Vandalism is property damage.

  6. Maybe they were on their way to administer “tough love” at a protest rally and didn’t have time to deal with common thugs. j/k

I don’t know why the officers didn’t get out and confront these two. They have all kinds of reasons and strategies (some illegal and some not) when dealing with regular folks just walking down the street. You’d think attacking a police cruiser would be ample justification for at least some kind of extended curbside “interview”.

There is the possibility that they had just come from a call where they’d had to deal with some real criminals and all the violence and human tragedy that this sometimes entails and in the aftermath these two punks weren’t even on their radar.

It’s a tough job and us civilians don’t get to see the other side.

  7. Actually, I’m sure there could’ve been a violation these dipshits could’ve been charged with like, oh I don’t know, j-walking or obstruction of traffic, just off the top of my head, if the cops actually cared, and then they could’ve searched them and found weapons or drugs to actually warrant their time spent and that would be that, two assholes looking to start shit off the street for the night at least, granted they’re not out on probation or something.
    The cops were lazy, period.

  8. …of course, had the officers actually done anything, we’d be hearing about systemic racism,socio-economic profiling, abuse of power, rogue cops, cowboys, lack of proper oversight, durka, durka, durka. Timmie & Brucie would be squeezing out steaming, odorous op-ed pieces and dreaming of Atlantic Journalism Awards and Judge Oil Rig would be ‘gasming to head up the “Independant (LMFAO) Inquiry”.

  9. nah see Ivan that’s the attitude that I hate. I’m against police brutality so therefore I must be pro crime. Personally if those two had gotten beat up I wouldn’t run to their defense. If they had beat him to a bloody pulp, or shot him, then I would say that they overstepped their boundaries. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Someone kicks your car there’s really no profiling required, socio-economic or otherwise.

I think the attitude you just displayed is a reason for this fuckery “we’re fucked either way” “we’ll get critisized either way, nobody likes cops anyways.”

    It’s complete fuckin bullshit.

As for the bitch, yeah, if I can get beat up and locked up for a night for walking to a friends house after the club, and asking the two officers who were tailing me 3 blocks what they the fuck they wanted, this asshole should have at least got a ticket, or a stern talking to for christ sakes. I think, I don’t know, but I think it’s the way that officers are recruited that’s the problem. Also too often they’re not held accountable so I feel like cops are encouraged to join up for the wrong reasons. They don’t want to be cops so they can better their community, they want to be in a position of power, and this is not discouraged in the least bit.

Doesn’t help that our justice system doesn’t back them up and often undoes all their hard work to keep our streets safe.

  10. Well Tommy, my sympathy will always be with law enforcement and the only exceptions will be those cases of deliberate, gross criminality which is a betrayal of badge, uniform, partners, ethos and, ultimately, us citizens. And, no doubt, my opinion is based on the fact that I have never had a negative encounter with a police office, even when I probably would have had one coming to me. I don’t excuse not doing their job, but the “Fucked if you do; fucked if you don’t” reality is hardwired in a society that has made a golden idol of personal freedoms and shitcanned the notion of personal obligations or responsibilities. In the OP’s case the very least that should have happened was a night in the tank for public intoxication for the two morons.
But I do agree with you, the justice system has left our police at a grave disadvantage and that is far more worrying than the odd “bad apple” cop who disgraces the uniform.

  11. let me fix that for ya….

‘reported’ crime ‘rates’ are actually decreasing.

if last year was a bad year and they get 1000 reports… and do shit about it…
and then this year people know they don’t do shit so they only report 20 cases….
well that makes a nice ‘looking’ statistic, doesn’t it.

  12. People don’t bother reporting some crimes like being assaulted or even robbed when they know that the person will not get caught, or will get caught and released right away. And let’s not forget that sometimes people have defended themselves and been warned by the cops not to “assault” their robbers and then it’s considered a “consensual brawl”.

  13. I’m shocked there was no Tasering done to these two punks considering how Taser-happy HRPD is.

  14. Those twits would have been in the back of my patrol vehicle, spending the night in cells with a few charges laid, mischief, drunkeness, being in the middle of the road obstructing traffic, and a few others.

  15. You’re whistling a different tune now Ivan. Bottom line these people are paid fairly well by our tax dollars to protect us, they failed and therefore are not worthy of the badge or that car they drive around in, not to mention their tax funded salaries.

If they were in a hurry to get to a crime scene they would have had their lights/siren on and they wouldn’t have even bothered to stop to talk to the guy. They didn’t want to bother with the paperwork. What happened to me was police brutality. What happened here was the opposite end of the scale, police indifference. Both leave our streets unsafe.

You can see how I’d be outraged, no? I get beat up and locked up for walking and minding my own business. They didn’t knock me down until I opened my mouth but I could tell they were going to do what they were going to regardless. The words weren’t even out of my mouth and my head was bouncing off the sidewalk. They ground my face into the concrete and had me bleeding in a couple different places. When I asked what I was being charged with they told me to “shut the fuck up” Then they had the audacity to look at me like I was crazy, crazy for being furious that I was assaulted and falsely imprisoned by the very people I’m supposed to trust. They kept me in there for 17 hours because “I had a bad attitude” Like anyone would be all smiles if they were in my situation. I wanted to burn that fucking station to the ground.

Were it not for their uniforms those pieces of dog shit could have been charged with assault. I would have been happy to get a one on one fight with either of those two eunuchs. I was posing no threat or danger to anyone. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to think about that incident without my blood pressure rising. It still infuriates me to this day.

Then this guy can boldly walk up to them, drunk in public, kick their car and they don’t so much as cuff him and let him go with a warning. TWO GROWN MEN, ACTING AGGRESSIVELY. Lets them go free to go and cause trouble, possibly violence. The OP is right, they bitched out big time. Maybe they were on their way to the dome to beat up a 19 year old, and didn’t want it with someone their own size. All signs point to being spineless pussies.

I dunno OP should have said something to the cops but I admit, I never call the cops or talk to the cops even when I know I should. I don’t trust them or like being in their presence. Takes a lot of guts to point your finger at someone to police right in front of them. Probably wasn’t worth it for OP. What if those guys had killed someone that night? Seems like many cops would rather pick on innocent people than protect them. These particular cops are not worthy of the badge.

  16. Weed doesn’t make you stupid. Beer doesn’t make you stupid. Stupid people just so happen to enjoy weed, beer, BBQ steak, cartoons, etc. and other things smart people might like.

  17. they were probly afraid to do anything, for fear of a lawsuit from them, for whatever you want to read into this bitch.i might be wrong, but think i’m not.
