Here is my bitch. I am short (5 ft), I understand the world should not cater to my height, however, I should not have to put my life in danger every time I board a crowded bus. If the bus does not have the hanging grey handles I cannot reach the bar to hold on and so I am left to the mercy of the sway of the bus. Yes I can hold on to the poles. but they are only located near the doors of the bus, and when the bus is crowded I cannot guarantee I’ll be anywhere near them. I feel my gripe is not unreasonable and I’m sure anyone who I have fallen upon while riding the bus would greatly appreciate it if more of the buses had those hanging grey handles or any form of handle more suited to those of us who are vertically challenged.

  1. don’t they have special buses for you people; so you have to wear a hockey helmet and be tethered to your fellow patrons; it’s not so bad:):):)

  2. I am not a large lady by any means but I held on to one of those grey things 3 weeks ago and it snapped off. I’m glad I have good balance or I would of been on the floor.

  3. I agree with this bitch! I can barely reach the top rails — I look like I’m on a set of monkey bars when I have to hold onto those!

  4. my friend, that’s another reason why there are handles on the back of most seats.i feel for you, and if you are a female, you are quite welcome to lean against me anytime, i won’t bite-hard or much…

  5. if the bus is crowded and you get stuck near the priority seats but not close enough to the front to reach the poles there aren’t seats with handles on the back of them.

  6. The majority of the low floor buses don’t have the backs of seats to hang onto, because the seats are going lengthwise. Only a few have front facing seats with handles. There’s the occasional vertical pole, but a person can’t be sure of being able to get one that isn’t already being grabbed by two or three people.

I hate those straps. I feel like I’m on a swing hanging by one hand. They’re only marginally better than having nothing to hang onto.

I think I’ll just say, for the record, I really, really dislike the low floor buses. They’re terrible. So glad the new buses that are being bought over the next few years are the articulated ones. So much better.

  7. Many of the busses dont have the back of the seat rails anymore. Probably people didnt like getting their hair pulled.

    OP- totally agree

  8. Also agree, I actually get anxiety at the sight of a full bus because I might not get near a pole. Then when I do find one I hang on and won’t move even if tons more people get on.

  9. i don’t ride the bus much but as an amazon i invite the vertically challenged to hang on to me if need be…and i will continue to help you reach things

  10. I see your plan, paingirl! You just want soft to land on when the driver slams on the brakes. (It’s your moniker that makes me doubt you = D

  11. pain=bread…i am in pain, i don’t inflict pain intentionally only when there is no other choice…then i gore them with my bull horns…i think i cause my family mental anguish being the black sheep…omg is kay right

  12. Oh!…French-Canadian…say no more = D! Every FC I know comes from a dysfunctional family…including me = )

  13. LOL I was in this situation a while ago – some kind person sitting sideways took pity and yelled ‘GRAB MY HAND!’. Which I did for the remaining ten minutes of the ride. 😛
