If all the MLA’s that were outed in the expense audit scandal were working in the private sector they would have all been fired including because of the bitch rules, our must remain unnamed leader of our ruling party. Trust me, I would definitely be fired and I work in a field where there are expense accounts and you don’t dare mess around with that. We the people as their employers should be able to fire the lot of the cheaters but our only re-course is to wait until the next election. And politicians count on us having short memory spans. The irony is those that are caught and are now re-paying the phony or unjustified claims are doing so with money we the people, pay them.

  1. Shame on them! If you click on the pdf doc in the article you can see the first initial+last name and what they tried to write off…. Jeez

  2. don’t we all wish we worked for a government right now,any one of them. they are all crooks and won’t get jack shit from this. you or i, we go to jail. try it and tell me i’m wrong.

  3. These crooks! It was interesting to see that some of the elecronic gadgetry, for many of these thieves, was bought around Christmas. Nauseating. If it was you or I, we’d be up on criminal charges. I can’t trust any of them. The premier should step down and remove himself. No redemption can be had.

  4. This whole “scandal” is stupid, and typical of sheeple in a bad economy…first thing they do is turn on the politicians for blood…in the UK 374 are being asked to “pay back” similar items. The same itmes that politicians bout when things were booming…no-one cried then over a few measly items.

You think they spent too much (like “they’ve” been doing for 145 years) and “suplemented their oh so “genourous salaries? Don’t be ridiculous.

Politicians are actually UNDERPAID when compared to the salaries of private sector executives. How the fuck do you expect to get people to want to do this miserable job anyway? I’d laugh my ass off if they all quit, every one of ’em.
Maybe you could get Steve Murphy to sit in as Premier…

    Want monkeys?
    Pay peanuts.

    Oh. My. God!
MLA’s bought computers for their office staff!? A GPS to tavel around to visit people? generators for power outages? TVs to keep up on news and current events?!

    The bastards!

  5. I think baD mR fRosTy said it all.

    As an aside…

It would be interesting to dig into our public sector employees and see their scams. Any day a hospital worker, teacher, city clerk uses a sick day as a vacation day, it costs the tax payer hundreds of dollars per person per day with no return on the money. Multiple that by about 100 000 peope a year doing it 10 times, and we’ll see some big numbers. Of course, these people in our society are above criticism. We reserve all the criticism for politicans, even if we’re talking pennies versus millions.

  6. Oh no! Raise the HST back to level it was at before when Harper’s short sighted visionaries decreased it! Go see where that extra 3 bucks will take you on your grocery bill. Wait, that’s a bag of chips!

What I feel is interesting about this situation is that everyone is blaming the NDP for this scandal. Let me tell you; the Liberals under St. John Savage were far worse than anything then Dexter has ever thought of. Never mind that the we don’t know what Mr. Regan’s cabinet did, or what Mr. Stanfield’s cabinets did. There were probably more shit stains in Stanfield’s books than in his underwear, for that matter.

  7. Well Mr F…we’re paying through the fuckin’ nose now, & yet we still have a bunch of retarded apes in there!
So this idea isn’t working !
What we actually need is ACCOUNTABLILITY !
We need PROFITABLE BUSINESS’S like Nova Scotia Power to REMAIN in the PEOPLE OF NOVA SCOTIA’S HANDS. THose thieving bastards stole that corperation right out of our hands & when they offered the ‘stock up for sale’ all of it was already gone the first day it was suppose to be offered. All of it ! Gone to the cronies & members of our Government at that time !
Why would they risk their money in a company that was in trouble you may ask…Well sir, I’ll tell you, it wasn’t actually in any trouble, that was all smoke screen, & if you’ve ever followed it, you see they always make a profit & have a government mandate that they always will !
We need the ability to hurt these guy’s later when impropriety is found, so fire them when caught, charge them criminally & take their pensions, these fuckers are no better than con artists & thieves.

  8. Frosty, while some of the expenses I have heard about don’t seem like that big a deal (Like TV’s, digital cameras and computers for constituency offices), there is obviously misspending going on. Buying a generator for your home is not appropriate. Spending excessive amounts of money for custom furniture for your office is inappropriate. 11 computers in 3 years would be inappropriate. I also heard that some were submitting the same receipts twice and getting double-reimbursed….which is obviously not right.

I’m just glad that the auditor general did his job and found these discrepancies. The big lesson here is that the auditor should be doing his job more frequently. Better guidelines and upper limits on spending for certain items could help eliminate these problems in the future.

  9. “So 11 computers in 3 years is cool, frosty?”

Well, I’ve had 4…and I’m just a truck driver, my office is much smaller than an MLAs.

    And even if 11 computers is excessive…is 5? Is 2, Is 1?

    How about the GPS *ohmygod!*?

This is the Chronicle Herald going ape-shit over nothing…it’s a non story. The items were all approved at the time. They ALL spent money, our MLAs have had this money to spend forever, not just THIS assembly!! Nothing new here folks, move on.

Don’t you have some crocodile tears for the Olympics?

You want to talk about politicians benefiting from your tax money, talk about THAT fiasco!

Do you REALLY think that this represents the worse that gets down by some of our politicians? 374 British MP’s are being reprimanded…do you think THEY’RE all “thieves”?

It’s the politics of recssion “throw the bums out!”…they’re happy this is the biggest “negative” story about them right now, don’t you fucking get it?!

You think THIS is what makes them ‘theives”?!

They’re not very smart thieves then are they? They have all the power and clout in the world and they best they can do is a couple laptops and some printer ink?

Not as smart as us, though, right?

We’re too smart to fall for this political “misdirection” as the rabbit gets stuffed in the hat, aren’t we?

  10. frosty.. it’s not that they have 11 computers… it’s the computers they were buying.
I’ve got 4 at the moment as well with no business to speak of… but all combined total under $1K, including 3 of those for under 300.
why do you need a $2300 with solid state hard drive, 512 graphics card 8gb ram all to run fucking excel or simply accounting…. or some shit like that? they have top tier gaming machines as office equipment when a 4 year old P4 with 2 gigs would do more than they need. Hell, I work in IT and have been running a P4 with 1 gig of ram for the last 5 years before they finally upgraded me (against my will).

the only reason was because they could. why get a $100 dollar 10megapixel camera that will do everything you need, when you have access to buy a $2200 camera that can do a couple extra color and whitewashing functions with built in sepia. fucking retarded.

I don’t mind them spending on supplies, but $2k for a printer?!?!?!?
they GIVE those away with computers because they make all the money on the ink/toner….

it wasn’t IF they needed what they bought, it was WHAT they bought based on what they needed.
