Route 17 for metro transist (the saint mary’s bus) during the construction period has a lovely detoured route straight down robie to saint mary’s. Bus goers could be arrive at smu in time for class within 10-15 minutes of their departure. However, now that construction has ended the old useless route down spring garden and looping back down inglis has returned. As the 17 only runs every 30 minutes, and each bus route now takes approximately that long to get to class, missing your first bus spells trouble. Now students have the option of arriving to class extra early (to guard against being late or missing an entire clas if one misses a bus) or arrive extra early. Particularly annoying when the robie route is perfectly viable.

  1. From a driving standpoint, 3 rights and a left on a flashing arrow is far easier (albeit tighter) than 3 lefts and a right with a stop right after it. Still, this week’s malfunction gives me hope that if suggestions are made, they will be listened to. Toss it out there OP, you never know.

  2. I LOVED the 18 and the 17’s detours!

OP: are you anywhere on the 18’s route? The 18 gets to SMU about 20 after the hour and 10 to the hour — plenty of time to get to class. Soooo if you can get on an 18 you’re set (it’s the same route once you hit windsor and young going towards SMU). It’s a pain how the 17 gets to SMU at 25 to the hour and 5 after the hour. If I ever missed my 18 connection at Lacewood, I’d take the 17, but now that’s not a back up option because it doesn’t get me to SMU on time. It especially sucks when I have to get to work and I miss the 4 and then miss the 18 at Lacewood.

The detour was also great for getting to Dal too in time for classes.

  3. yeah,it is a bitch, when i was at dal, doing my neo political science thing, it was a gas. but now, it is just lame-o.oops,gave out to much info there people. i hang my beard and glasses in shame.
