I have it with the pot culture! I’m not talking about the occasional Toker, I’m addressing the Lifer’s the full blown addicts of marijuana. The brainless fucks how think “it will never happen to me” idiots. Heads-up. You are destroying you brain one cell at a time. If you as a Full-timer that spends more money on pot then food your fucked, and as a Lifer you’ll end up with Alzheimer’s. It’s a fact! Is you short term memory shot? it’s because that part of the brain is the first to go, then speech and fine motor reflexes and so on. For fuck sakes! By the time your ready to retire you’ll won’t be able to play crib, or enjoy the comfort of a good book. Wake the Fuck Up! —Seriously

You’re the same cuntmuffin who is “discusted” about clubsluts dressing like, for lack of a better word, clubsluts, aren’ t you?.
Tell you what sport, keep your own house in order. Most intelligent people find that to be a challenging enough task, without having to worry about what others are doing with theirs. A lifetime drunk is every bit as tiresome to deal with as a doper. Nobody is forcing you to associate with them.
Fact:
cannabinoids stave off Alzheimer’s, for those whom it affects.
I’d rather be a pothead than a drunkard anyday….puff..puff..puff
Well it’s a good thing we can grow brain cells back!
So how about you leave me and my medication alone! It’s been proven that alcohol and nicotine are FAR worse for you.
All y’all fools be alcoholics!
although the measures can be argued, I’m still going to leave this riiiiight here…. http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-drugs-that-cause-the-most-harm-2013-9
An interesting link, Ms Green. Although one must remember when interpreting that graph that it also takes into account “economic costs and crime” which are manufactured numbers – as in, each country or region would have differing levels of legality for each drug, and depending on the geographic location of any area the economic factor changes quite dramatically.
For example, here in NS the economic power surrounding marijuana would be affected by the large quantity of the drug grown inter-provincially, versus Newfoundland where most of the drug comes from out of province. This totally skews the statistics.
The Captain finds it odd that ecstasy is so far down on the list, especially in the ‘harm to self’ category where it scores considerably lower than marijuana. How many people have died of a marijuana related cause, versus a ecstasy related cause? The Captain is fairly certain that more people have died from ecstasy than marijuana.
OP hasn’t read any peer reviewed scientific studies lately.
Marijuana promotes the growth of new brain cells, and actually slows brain aging.

(Re: the OP’s bitch, one would think credible criticisms of other’s brain function would include comprehensible English.)
The multitude of +A university theses of a guy I know (a decades long, daily toker) who writes while smoking high-grade kick-ass pot must be the exception to the OP’s ill-conceived theory.
Reefer Madness, anyone?
I just avoid chronic stoners because they eat all my fucking food. How else is this affecting you?
I was a chronic pot user for a long time. Pills AND smokes. How did i get pills you ask? They were medicinal. Yes. I was sick and I was told by my doctor to smoke pot.
It really does make you perfectly A-ok with being bored. It wasn’t a good quality of life. It also didn’t do much for my pain. It does work for most people but in my particular case, it didn’t. Which is why I manage my pain differently now.
So yeah. Pot makes you happy with being bored, makes you THINK you’re being creative but you’re not really (trust me, I looked back at the “work” i did over that time.. not my finest hour) and makes you eat a lot.
I just don’t get why this affects you at all? Why is someone else’s lifestyle choice your business? They’re not known for crashing cars, not known for beating their kids up. Not known for carjacking to get a fix. You don’t lambaste meth, which is actually fucking really dangerous. You don’t even lambaste booze! Which is a chronic addictive substance that A FUCKING LOT of people misuse, right before making horrible, and often fatal, choices.
So what’s the problem??
KROKODIL! – google it , kiddies. It may be safe for work but not if you’re chowing down on your mid-morning panini
Not that The Captain disagrees with your point, TheGreatBatshit… but it needs some ‘editing’ from The Captain – “Pot makes you happy with being bored, makes you THINK you’re being creative but you’re not really (trust me, I looked back at the “work” i did over that time.. not my finest hour) and makes you eat a lot.
Depression – Marijuana reduces depression, which actually does make you happy with being bored instead of being sad and bored. (that’s good, right?)
Anxiety – In some subjects marijuana can reduce anxiety (in others it can raise anxiety levels, admittedly), which again would make you happy with being bored instead of fidgety and bored.
Creativity – Marijuana can spark creativity. How? By removing or reducing blocks to creativity such as a preoccupation with depression, anxiety, pain, or hunger… mmmm, hunger…
Hunger – Seasoned stoners aren’t effected by the ‘munchies’ to as great a degree as the ‘green-thumbs’. You just need to smoke more.
Again, I’m not disagreeing with you because that was obviously the experience you had with marijuana. But just because you weren’t super creative when high, or you sat on your couch bored 100% of the time, doesn’t mean that’s how it will effect others. One of my brothers has arthritis, marijuana is great for him, it actually gets him OFF the couch. Another brother of mine can’t drink alcohol (one shot and he starts getting nauseated), but he would never expect others to share his experience with alcohol; He knows that others will have a completely different experience, so he doesn’t even offer up wisdom on the subject knowing that his own opinion is so biased.
What were you on when you wrote this? Fuck, near went crazy trying to read this shit
Let’s see – I’ve been a pot smoker for 40 years, worked full-time, raised a family, always had good food and nice clothes (o.k., well, 2nd hand!) and a vehicle, bought and paid for a house and am now on a comfy pension. So you’re bleating that I’m going to get dementia?
If you had a single brain cell floating in that great cavern you call a head, you’d know life is a crapshoot – you can do all the right things and still end up with a steaming shit pile on your lap.
Sounds like you could use a toke, Mr. Anal Cavity.
I find it funny how many people hate particular things without question simply because it’s illegal. It eliminates common sense.
If you didn’t see me physically smoke a joint I can almost guarantee you would never know I was a ‘pot head’.
In your post all you refer to is ‘you’, so how is this affecting you again? If you made it legal/decriminalized it would be even less of an issue for you because you wouldn’t be paying to imprison these ‘brainless fucks’.
Just like gay marriage, politics simply have to catch up with the modern world. I’m not saying you have to smoke, just open your eyes.
Whats a synonym for ‘slut shaming’?
Constructive criticism
This is an obvious troll!!!! No one would be stupid enough to type up a bitch with such grievous grammar and spelling while chastising people for becoming more stupid from smoking pot.
On the off chance that this is a legitimate bitch, why don’t you fuck off and let people worry about themselves. Nobody cares what your stupid, uneducated opinion is you dumb fuck!!!!
‘… By the time your ready to retire you’ll won’t be able to play crib, or enjoy the comfort of a good book…’
Pure horseshit, OP. I’m retired but not sitting in a pile of drool as you would suggest.
You’re right, SHITD, has to be a fucking troll.
You OB , seeing as it pisses you off so much. Makes me want to take up the toking lifestyle… Except that there’s no way I can ensure it pisses you off as well
~; )
Rolllllllllllll me another one….just like the other one…..
I guess OP has no vices. I’m sure they don’t drink, or eat unhealthy food, or drink a double double here or there, or eat candy, or autoerotically asphixiate themselves..
Everyone has something…
I’m sick of the medical claims being made without any scientific studies to back them. That strategy is being employed so as to indoctrinate the public into generalized acceptance of its use (which will soon lead to large-scale changes in drug policies).
As far as addition goes, there is LOTS proof that the use of THC is not addictive but can create a psychological dependence; vastly different from addiction – ask any heroin/opiate user.
Finally, the side-effects mentioned in your argument can be used to describe any form of prolonged drug-use including alcohol, nicotine and caffeine.
The reality is that we’ll be dead by the time any of those side-effects actually kill anyone, so you have no worries.
Now, let’s go have a puff and a martini. I’ll buy!
Captain i’m talking about my experiences and those of people i know. I only have that data to go on.
As far as pain is concerned, this is why i stated (pretty clearly) that it didn’t work for ME but that in most cases, it does work to alleviate chronic pain. I am 100% in support of it being used as medication for a number of problems. I am also 100% in support of it being sold as a mild intoxicant. If booze is legal, this should be too.
Mine just happened to be one case of pain that it didn’t work for. So? There are lots of other therapies out there that DO help me a lot. And i can smoke weed if i want to. I just don’t rely on it for pain management.
I think it should be the choice of the patient, yes? And that every individual case is different. My case is fairly rare. It usually works.
re: killing brain cells. this is a GOOD thing.
if drinking or pot kills brain cells, it should follow the same evolutionary ‘paradigms’ (sorry cap, I couldn’t help myself) as the law of survival of the fittest. in other words, the alcohol or pot will kill off ONLY the slowest and weakest of the cells, leaving the robust to survive!
this is why university students (esp engineering students) are so much smarter than 56 year old engineers. they drink more.
Oh yes, The Captain never doubted your personal experience with marijuana, GreatBatshit.
I actually agree, patients should exercise more power in the medications they choose for themselves (In this case choosing marijuana as a viable treatment option – or not choosing marijuana, in your case).
“I am 100% in support of it being used as medication for a number of problems. I am also 100% in support of it being sold as a mild intoxicant. If booze is legal, this should be too.” – The Captain agrees.
Meaty – The girlfriend (who’s a nurse) corrected me when I referred to a bodies physical dependance on a substance as an addiction (it’s simply a ‘dependance’), and the word ‘addiction’ is used more for describing the mental aspect of an addiction (confusing, eh?!). So a body does not build up a physical dependance on marijuana, but people CAN become mentally addicted to the substance. Conversely, crack cocaine builds up a bodies physical dependance on a substance long before any mental addiction starts to form.
This topic was mentioned (more or less) in the Captain’s ‘Paradigm’ rant the other day.
Here are some of the other myths about marijuana use that have been busted, including the one about it killing brain cells…
http://norml.org/library/health-reports/it…
Imagine that, some of the effects of marijuana are harmful, well, less harmful than drinking coffee anyway.
Unless the pothead has to perform surgery on you or someone you love then I don’t think you should be concerned with their extra ciricular activities.
Real chick yeah. Pretty much how i feel.
I’m not a fan of the idea of a nanny state. You want to keep pot away from your home? Then do so! It’s that simple.
If leagues of drunks can prowl the streets on a friday night, I don’t see the harm in a few potheads getting stoned in their mom’s basement.
Who is more likely to cause havoc? I can guarantee it’ll be the drunks.
I have nothing against booze either. But pound for pound, they cause the most damage, are the loudest, the most obnoxious, the rapiest, the meanest of the two.
In my experience, I have never seen anybody break out in fisticuffs over smoking a joint, maybe a few words to a greedy person hogging the joint, not much else….Now same people drinking, many fights have broken out over looking at someone’s girlfriend the wrong way, hurling choice words at each other, etc. Alcohol brings out many undesirable traits and loosens inhibitions in people to the point of wanting to annihilate each other. I’d sit with people smoking as opposed to sitting with drinkers.
I’m all about spending more money on pot … then food too.
OB states that habitual pot smoking causes laziness as well as health problems. I expect that these generalizations are based on (1) a few instances that OB observed potheads who happened to be lazy; and (2) OB’s perception that pot is unhealthy.
(1) Does not establish that pot causes laziness; the potheads may be lazy with or without their pot use. Others have mentioned possible reasons for pot to promote productivity. I would say that the problem is not empirically tractable without having access to some kind of (randomized) social experiment causing some individuals to cross the threshold into pot smoking culture. I have not yet encountered such research.
(2) Is potentially, true, though not necessarily so for the health conditions OB has stated (e.g. Alzheimer’s). There may be other positive health consequences as well, so the potential health consequences are in the eye of the beholder.
In any event even if pot did cause laziness and poor health, this is not necessarily a reason to shame people for smoking pot. There are far more socially acceptable and socially destructive substances that are perfectly legal. And, regardless of your moral/health stance, legalized marijuana is supported by a pure cost-benefit analysis. A legal market would divert money from criminals to law-abiding citizens and tax payers. Spending on persecution of petty drug criminals would disappear, causing more money to be diverted to tax payers. Any other moral and health concerns could be addressed through appropriate regulation (preventing access to minors) and taxation (pricing marijuana to reflect the social costs associated with poor health).
A legal marijuana market will not divert or save tax money.
You will need new regulations to figure out just exactly what activity you’re legalizing, which costs money. Then what happens to the people who violate the new laws? Ummm, we’d need the law enforcement back that everyone said we could save money on and didn’t need. Then we’d need another governent department to regulate the THC content. Yup, even more money for that (and its not a one time fee). Then of course there’s the tax revenue everyone talks about. But without regulations or restrictions, who’s going to voluntarily pay taxes on the weed they grew and smoked?
Ok, nukka, I guess we should keep on charging and incarcerating tax paying citizens for smoking a fucking a plant that IS proven to be far less harmful than tobacco, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and fast food. More people die of the flu than have died because of pot consumption. In light of our work environments serve as pretty good germ dispenceries, maybe we should make workplaces illegal.
And for your cost estimates??? You couldn’t be more wrong. Alcohol is one of the governments largest cash cows, I fail to see how marijuana would be any different.
Nukka.
(1) The cost of combating the illicit trade of drugs is proportional to the profit motive associated with participating in a full fledged black market. This profit motive is probably much greater than what would basically amount to selling a “restricted but legal” product to minors. The reasons why this is the case is a matter of, in my view, (1) market scale, (2) low purchasing power of minors, and (3) because the bulk of marijuana use/initial experimentation occurs after kids leave the nest (in community college, university, etc). If alcohol is a useful reference point, I must say that I don’t often hear about the high costs of persecuting bootleggers and unscrupulous liquor runners who break the rules of the game in order to sell to underage kids. The profit margins just aren’t there. So, I lack evidence on this, but simple logic indicates that any cost savings associated with keeping petty users out of court (quite high in BC alone) would more than offset the costs of persecuting people who break the “rules of the game” (e.g. selling to minors).
(2) The government of Canada already regulates food and beverage products for quality and safety assurance. If marijuana is regulated as a similar type of product, then the additional cost of regulating THC and other quality features would be quite low, given the infrastructure already in place.
(3) Regulation can ensure that growing for personal use remains limited or non-existent. Again, using alcohol as an example, some people make their own wine and booze but most consume from legitimized retailers. We like convenience, at is more convenient to buy from a retailer than to break the law just to get a slightly better high. So, while it is true that the potential for tax revenues is being overstated, it is nevertheless the case that tax revenues can be derived from any legally sanctioned and profitable enterprise.
You are absolutely correct, Harper. I couldn’t be more wrong. That’s of course because wrong is an absolute. There are no degrees, you either are, or aren’t.
I also did not say any of the things you responded with. I am not terribly invested in marijuana or the outcome if its legalized or simply, decriminalized. I couldn’t care less so don’t assume I’m automatically against it because you didn’t like what I wrote. Nor do I think anyone should be locked up for a minor amount as you also assumed. I am not trying to be the bad guy, just putting forth elements of the argument you (and others) obviously overlooked.
I simply stated in my opinion what was wrong with the whole “the government will make a fortune in taxes” argument. I wanted to bring attention to the lesser known topics. I also did not give any monetary amounts but simply pointed out that the federal government would in fact, be spending money to still technically police and regulate it. Now this is where the whole bootlegger argument comes in. How many years did it take any country to eradicate bootlegging and set up the liquor giants we all know and love? Over a century is the answer. Now work that into the marijuana debate. You see, it won’t be cash crop over night.
Also, pointing out how worse other things are does more damage to your side of the argument. Meth is probably worse than crack, but should we use one of those as an example to legalize the other? No, that would be foolish.
Alcohol provides an amazing tax income, you’re right. But that did not happen over night as I previously mentioned and so many marijuana advocates imply. That’s why I brought it up. I’m sure after so many years it would be a cash crop, but we’re not going to legalize it and wake up tomorrow being rich. That takes time, and of course money in the short term. But that brings me back to one point I made. If its legalized, will the growers be on the honor system to pay their taxes?
Then, when its all legalized, how do we stop a drug cartel from taking it over? Because the mom-and-pop farmers could always have a gun to their head but we’d be none the wiser. How do we stop shit-weed from being sold too? Or an amazingly ass tickling potent strain? We’d need regulators and inspectors, which would cost money. Yes, the revenues may cover it, but who knows for certain.
Long story short, I guess I do lean more towards the legalization aspect. I’m just not naïve enough to not consider all aspects and sides and actually put consideration into what it would take. Not just how good it will be.
PS- Do you still think I’m wogdog? We were getting along so well until now so I thought I’d ask.
Actually, Nukka, my point was that the status quo isn’t working. People walking around with criminal records, stuck never leaving the country for vacations, not being able to get a good job, losing custody of their children, or anything else that may come of having said criminal record for dealing, growing, or smoking something that should never have been illegal in the first place. It may not be a “big deal” to you or even anyone you may know but it is to a lot of people in this country that, unfortunately, you have to share.
Its a big deal to me, not unlike your passion for illegal downloading and the poor artists who’s careers have suffered unspeakable harm. Oh the humanity! Everyone has issues they would like to see addressed, this happens to be mine.
Yes, Nukka, it would be the honour system to pay taxes, just like every business in existence. Just like any business, you will find good business owners and bad business owners. Just like contractors or electricians or trucking companies, any business that is able to trade work or a product for cold, hard, cash. See where I’m going with this? Sounds like a Revenue Canada deal to me, and the last I checked we already have one of those set up with the tools for policing taxation. Correct me if I’m wrong?
As for alcohol, it could have happened overnight, just like marijuana. First it was legal, then it wasn’t, then they spent millions (likely billions with today’s inflation, but who’s counting) on making laws, policing them, and incarcerating people for disobeying them. Now it’s legal again, after making a bunch of criminals rich and handing them the keys to a criminal empire that switched to drugs the day they lifted prohibition on alcohol. See anything similar when it comes to marijuana and other drugs? It just goes to prove you can’t pick and choose which drugs you legalize based on harm, but that’s a whole different argument for a different paragraph. Doesn’t it even make you the slightest bit angry that your government lied to you (us, we, whatever) not once, but twice? The Americans have spent over a TRILLION dollars on “the war on drugs”, and Canada being their lapdog, has followed suit. Just think of the amount of revenue that it would take for marijuana to pay for 20+ years of its own prohibition? So you’re right about one thing, it will take a whack of dope to pay for our own stupidity, but only looking backward not forward.
Really? A cartel guy with a gun to someones head? What fucking planet are you from? This is Canada, not Mexico. And we’re talking about pot, not cocaine. But, but, but, who will save the poor farmers. Lol!!!
Also, your theory about things being “more harmful” being damaging to my argument? Only in the fact that you believe that I think that any drugs should be illegal. I believe that drug abuse and dependency is a social problem, not a criminal one. I believe all drugs should be legal and controlled by the government, only to keep them as pure as possible and ensuring they are not cut with shit that is more harmful than the drugs themselves, making education and treatment the governments primary roll. Not throwing people in jail to rot for being a drug addict, or limiting your opportunities via a criminal record that follows you around for life, segregating you from “honest” society. Maybe you agree, maybe you don’t. Makes no difference to me.
So far the government has done a shit poor job of “controlling” alcohol and prescription drugs so I wouldn’t expect them to be able to “control” pot any better. Kids still become alcoholics and drug addicts long before they turn 18 with drugs that are completely legal and controlled, so, in short, I wouldn’t worry about the government controlling all aspects of anything.
Not to mention that the government is trying to control what we do with our minds, man. (Figured I had to throw a stoner conspiracy theory joke in there somewhere).
Are you Wogdog? Gee whiz, I sure hope you will tell me. I spent like a whole 2 mins thinking about it but, apparently it’s been on your mind.
Sonic = Nukka = Wogdog. That theory’s been around for quite a while, SHITD.
Oh I know. I think he thinks that’s my theory so he’s doing his best to make look like an ass. Just waiting for the backing out a driveway thing to make its way back. He likes bringing up old shit.
sonic/nukka is our resident word counter. must be a Capricorn.
I honestly can’t see why anyone would balk at legalizing dope and having the government handle it same as alcohol.
GDM- I’m a sagittarius that was blessed with an eidetic memory.
i like sea goats and half man half beasts
I like not defending myself against things I never said 🙁
Smoking a joint, in my opinion, is the most victimless crime I can think of (hey man, someone held a gun to me and said… toke or else). To punish people for tasting the herb and simple possession makes the court system chaotic and costly for everyone involved over nonsense. Resources could be better spent on more important illegal activities.
Weed makes you smarter. I make 90’s in school – top of my class. Try backing up your “facts”.. Weed does not cause altzeimers. . Deodorant does.
That’s why I use teetree oil as pitstick.
See how smart I is? Bye dumb-dumb.
Tylenol kills brain cells, and as no_fool said deodorant causes dementia etc.
Here’s a secret. As soon as you are born, you start dying. It just takes a longer time for some than for others. And anything can kill you. So why worry.
