You market yourselves as a company with values and morals. I understand that with any company the bottom line is making money but your sanctimonious, holier than thou crap is getting tired.
I hope you have a great Christmas season, undoubtedly your busiest time of the year with all of the untrained newbies running the place.
You had loyal employees who not only knew how to run the place but also enjoyed working together. You had people with between 5 and 15 years experience but you just had to push it.
You dropped wages, cut hours, took away benefits, demoted people and brought in untrained teenagers to cover the hours that you cut from your full time employees. You eliminated the two management postions and asked us to apply to work for you part time!
Did you really expect us to stay for Christmas and sign something that said our hours would be cut from 30-40 per week in December to 8-12 hours per week in January? You just hired twice as many people to cover us because you refuse to have full time positions.
To have you interview me as if we have never met when I have been working for you for 8 years is beyond insulting…did you seriously ask me what my work experience was? Could you not have told me before this charade of an interview that there were no full time positions available. I had to get a letter…IN THE MAIL…saying I have been offered a part time position, with no benefits at $4.00 less per hour!
Luckily I found a management postion elsewhere and I’m working on getting jobs for the other guys and girls, too. Nice try telling me I had to give 2 weeks notice and couldn’t start my new job right away. Your letter states this is a new job so I actually don’t have to give you any notice at all. —You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch

I would like more hints as to where / what business this is too. Its hard to make a concious effort to avoid a company if you don’t know what it is.

What store OB? I’m with the big-box store too, my step-daughter just quit a job under similar circumstances, reduced hours and the promised promotion didn’t happen.
Sounds like a labour board issue to me. Get a lawyer, in the case of an 8 year employee, your employer is obligated to give you a severants package, not just notice.
I’d say it sounds like the folks who planned and executed this strategy were teenagers but that would be unfair to teenagers.

My slightly educated guess is that it is a small store…4 of them in the HRM. That was a franchise but the owner recently retired and sold the store to the corporate office (in the U.S.)
The reason I say this is that pertty much everyone in the Bedford and Mic Mac stores are new young teenagers and the assistant manager is gone and is helping one of my friends (another long time employee) to get a job so she can leave there too.
It fits, too that the OB says a place who prides themselves on their values since I happen to have a Coconut Body Butter right here which lists the values of the company right on it.
Let’s just say the way they have treated their employees in the last year is complete B.S.

I can’t stand their products…too much perfume. Now that I know that long-term employees are being treated like crap, I have even fewer reasons to visit that chain.
agreed…when I heard about all the cutbacks in wages they were doing I stopped going there. No great loss especially since you can get equal stuff for less $$$ elsewhere.
I know one girl who had been there for over 10 years was put through the “re-interview” process and got a letter saying thanks for applying but you didn’t get the job.
She actually acted as the asst manager for a time, too! Not sure if this is a coincidence or not but I was suspicious when I heard she wasn’t offered any position at all and she happens to be the only overweight person I ever saw working there.
She was great and really knew her stuff. Now it’s a bunch of cookie cutter Barbie looking teenagers
That’s just sad, devil_girl. Obviously someone thought it was a good idea. I do not appreciate business tactic like that which is an insult to dedicated employees.

The former CEO, in addition to having not one, but 2 phallic references in her last name made a piss-pot full of money “green-washing” her clientele by pushing progressive issues like fair trade, environmentalism, positive body image, etc. and by the time someone got around to investigating just how “ethical” her business actually was, she was rich enough to afford a private army of lawyers to ensure that accurate stories were either quashed or relegated to narrow release. That is, if I’m thinking of the correct company.
