WTF?
Hockey playoffs: we get Buffalo vs Boston on the national network while I have to search my vast cable archive of channels to find the Habs on the other sports network.
Jesus, it’s a Canadian team ffs, and I can’t find it anywhere else. Whether they win or lose, they should cover Canadian teams. It’s my tax dollars in the end.—Frustrated Canadian Fan

i do not have vast archives but i sorta watched and they lost gohabsgo
What I understand is that CBCs first pick was the Sens-Pens series after which TSN snapped up the Habs-Caps series. It pisses me off, but honesty, TSN has a better quality HD signal. They are both Canadian networks anyway.
just because you have a favorite team, don’t mean that they have to be playing all the time for cgrist’s sake. i have favorite things too, and i have to wait til they come to a channel i have.
The CTV globemedia empire will not rest until they control everything in this country. They got the Junos, the Olympics, and the Hockey Night in Canada song from CBC. Now they get the rights to show one Canadian team in the first round of the playoffs.
CBC gets first pick and they went with Ottawa/Pittsburgh. They felt Sidney Crosby and a Canadian team would draw better than Alex Ovechkin and a much more popular Canadian team (Most popular in the country according to a recent poll). Yeah, I don’t get it either.
But then again, CBC has been disrespecting Habs fans for years. When they didn’t show Boom Boom Geoffrion’s banner raising but gave Tie Domi’s 1000th game ceremony wall to wall coverage, that was the last straw for me. Since then they’ve been trying to win back Hab fans and show they’re not Toronto biased.
This decision, in my opinion, is a giant step backwards. Has to be the first time in history CBC isn’t showing the Habs in the playoffs.
CBC dumped the hockey theme. CTV picked it up and hopefully will pay Dolores Claman every time they use it, so she doesn’t have to sue them over it like she did CBC.
what really bugs me is my tax money going to shit like : the ghost whisperer. Could a show suck more, i think not
I’ve got a great idea for a show. Sweaty Greek and his ugly friends pull the same log off the same B.C. beach week after week. Should be good for about 20 seasons right?. What? You’ve gotta be shitting me.
Okay, plan “B” , there’s this really smart dog and….
Hey dgaf, you want to watch the Habs play? Learn french and watch SRC.
Hell, you don’t even learn to need the French. I watched half the Olympic games on APTN in 7 different languages. Look, my colour got it in their colour yeeey!
Need to learn, ffs. that’s a good thing since I apparently can’t do English.
Although SD, you can learn not to need the French.
Even if you don’t want to learn French, you can mute it, but then you’d realize just how boring the NHL is nowadays, then you would turn off the TV, then you would read a book, or do something more constructive.
Hey Dr. Fever, in the mid 90’s when CBC started their Leafs-Loving switch, I tuned in to SRC every Saturday and quickly picked up the important french words. Had no problem doing that. Of course, SRC stopped showing Habs games about 7-8 years ago because RDS (Part of the CTV family) acquired the rights to every game.
Would posting on the coast site count as doing something more constructive?
No, only trying to demonstrate that the NHL should curl up and die, because the game is boring and has been since it lost it’s soul to the US TV market since the early 90’s.
…and not only do we have to go to TSN for the Habs we get stuck with that loudmouth Pierre Maguire. The only saving grace is we get the real Hockey Night in Canada song.
Dr. Fever if you didn’t find those games Saturday exciting, then you don’t understand hockey either enough to understand or enjoy it.
Nah, I used to like hockey. I know the game. I just find it tedious and boring now for some reason.
I’d rather have my leg amputated than watch a game of hockey. The only exceptions I’ll make is when it’s an international tourney or maybe Major Junior, because they’re actaully playing for something, unlike most NHLers, who are just looking for the next paycheque.
I’m old.
Way back when, the only time I could watch hockey was during commercials of the Academy Performance. Remember that freaky script?
Montreal actually had their own english commentator, Danny Gallivan. That seems like a surreal concept now.
I remember the great Danny Gallivan, Shrike. Haven’t heard that name in years. Now I feel old.
You can hear his voice in your mind’s eye. Like Foster Hewitt.
If you want the full creep-out experience, go visit his grave in Lower Sackville. I shit you not.
Remember when the assholes caused a lockout and CBC did Movie Night all season? Man that was fun. Which is also when the NHL died for me totally.
I think its sucks that I’m down to 2 channels from 3 for the next couple of weeks, or is it months?
many moons mr. cranky
If I were you I’d be more worried about the fact that your team, the Habs, blow and will be one round wonders.
Yeah.. I watched CBC French once.. That LaRondelle was a hell of a player…
