Blah blah blah, blah blah, blah…..

Those bitching on here, day in and out, about the occupy movement are freakin’ ridiculous.

Here’s a thought – if you put a tiny % of the effort and attention it takes to bitch and moan about this movement into say, critiquing something actually worthwhile, we’d all be a lot better off.

I’ll even help you out a little bit on that one (wouldn’t want to take too much away from your worthwhile bitching):

– Canada’s continued support for the subjugation of the Palestinians. In the words of Noam Chomsky, Israel has had 40 yrs to choose between either security or expansion. It continues to choose expansion, all the while bemoaning the lack of security and destroying the lives of thousands of Palestinians (all illegal according to any law in any western country, including Israel)… and naturally, Canada goes along with whatever the US wants.

And you still can’t figure out why the people might be angry enough to protest.

– We’re still waiting for someone to be held accountable for the global financial crisis. So far, no one has and probably no one will. Why? Because they run the goddamn world, that’s why.

And you still can’t figure out why people might be angry enough to protest.

– Lobbyists and corporations own our politicians, and it is getting worse.

And you still can’t figure out why people might be angry enough to protest.

– Harper wants to turn Canada into another U.S. (war on drugs, warrantless internet surveillance – aka omnibus crime bill) despite the fact that things haven’t turned out quite so rosy for the Americans, have they? Unless you count of course, those at the top.

And you still can’t figure out why people might be angry enough to protest.

– Canada reduced its funding to UNESCO after the Palestinians were granted membership because the rest of the world (US and a couple of others not incl.) decided that this was the least they could do for the Palestinians. But oops! Israel doesn’t like that, so neither does the US – so neither does Canada.

– The Harper gov’t has not and probably will not be held accountable for its disgusting disregard for Canadian law (Bev Oda/CIDA + Kairos scandal; Tony Clement spending $50 million taxpayer $ like it was his own)

– Canada continues to do jack shit about the environment. I don’t even think we’re bothering to even try to make up excuses anymore.

– Omar Kadhr. Guantanamo Bay. Once again, the disregard for international – not to mention our own – laws.

– Canada (along with the US, UK and Australia) is a plutocracy. If you don’t know what that is, look it up. Better yet, search for the leaked internal report by Citibank “The Plutonomy Symposium – Rising Tides Lifting Yachts”

Then shake your head and consider, just for one second, why people around the world – Canada included – might feel the need to express their discontent.

So please, use that thing between your two ears and focus your complaints at those that actually deserve it, instead of those that are merely trying to exercise their rights.

For fuck’s sake. —Frog in a Pot

  1. are you speaking for occupy halifax or is this your take on it personally? is that you mr fat?

  2. People understand the need for a protest, I just have doubts that the actual protestors know or understand what they are protesting. Singing give peace a chance and chanting about ” Taking Down the Man” is fine, but how do they plan to tackle this issue and make a difference? That’s what I’d like to know. If you are bold enough to say the world has failed you( as their signs say) at least have the balls to say why, and what the hell you plan to do about it. Why not boycott certain corporations? Products? Lobby political leaders? Put a face on your cause, show people suffering and affected? None of this has been done( to the best of my knowledge anyway) because it takes more effort to do that than painting mispelled signs, camping out in random places, hula hooping and singing John lennon songs.
    Peace.

  3. “Something actually worth bitching about”

Don’t be dumb. They are costing the city a shitload of money that will have to be reimbursed by people like me who can’t afford to pay any unnecessary taxes. The irony of that drives me fucking crazy. They use power (corporate power) not seeming to care that this electricity is a product of a corporate operation. half of them are talking on iPhones. Apple?? Seriously??

    *sigh* here’s the deal dude.

The message is a good one. The people sharing it should NOT speak on behalf of the message.

Take Evolution. It is an excellent theory. Anyone who has actually read the origin of species will usually agree it makes pretty damned good sense. Those who think about it and look at the evidence in favour of SOMETHING resembling what we currently believe.. the case for evolution looks good.

And yet.. there are so many idiots who follow it like it’s a religion. They don’t understand anything about evolution. They have never read a damned thing. Never studied the theory and never thought critically about what they see around them. They JUST BELIEVE. Why? because understanding and promoting the evolutionary theory is very TRENDY right now. People want to be seen as belonging to a certain demographic and the quickest way to do that is to simply agree with those who represent the trend they want to belong to. They hypnotize themselves with a sense of actually understanding why they believe in what they believe in but the truth is.. they’re just honing the mask they want others to see them wear.

These people promote evolution like a religion. They are retarded flakes who, despite being agreement with us, should NEVER EVER speak for us.

Essentially this is why i hate these turds. They’re not serious about anything.

And what’s the worst about all this? THE ENTIRETY OF NORTH AMERICA IS THE 1%. These self-righteous dumbasses are so worried that they might have to pay back their student loans (which they SHOULD fucking pay off) that they’re not even really THINKING about how good we all have it here. No fucking gratitude.. no fucking appreciation. Just bitching and moaning with every opportunity and no attempt to make their own lives better.

it’s easy for you to say the issue isn’t an issue. You probably aren’t a taxpayer either. If you are, you’re being duped.

  4. you want to throw a rock at someone, start looking toward the media that has hypnotized dumb people into thinking that a certain level of luxury is considered basic necessity.

You think about that. You think about whether it is NECESSARY to both live downtown AND own a car. To have a two person household and own two cars. To have a four bedroom house when a two bedroom will do just fine. Do you need to take a trip every year? Do you need a credit card? Do you need to eat out more than once a month?

None of these things are necessary to a happy or healthy life.. and yet there is this idea sneaking around that if you don’t have these things, you are “impoverished”

It’s not fair that there is mass responsibility for entitlement but no individual responsibility for stupidity.

You want a change in the economy start with your own. You don’t like corporations? Throw away your iPhone, stay out of walmart. Shop locally. Get off your lazy ass and be the change you want to see in the world.

    Occupy THAT.

  5. Fallacy of composition. The whole is often greater than the sum of its parts. Even if you assume all the protesters are uninformed pothead hippies, there actions can produce unintended benefits: media coverage, public discussions, political debate, etc.

  6. The Yanks made one mistake with Kadhr, they should have killed him in the battle. Chomsky, who cares? The Middle East has been fighting for millineums and will continue to do so for milleneum to come. It’s a shame that criminals will be forced to do their whole time – not. If you want to bitch about the environment then go after the real menaces, India and China. The UN is as useless as tits on a bull. Don’t forget politicians in the pockets of unions.

  7. everyday when i wake up i feel like an alien from another planet, but that’s cool. living simply has it’s benefits ik

  8. what a long winded fucking blowhard you are, o.p,jesus fuck. with fucking idiots like you around, no wonder there are people like them, protesting shit that they are in on themselves. yes they are. whether they use a phone, power or what the fuck ever, they are contributing to the man. and i dare say, they probly have more money in the bank, than most of us. why, how, usually from a student loan, or college fund, supplied by daddy or mommy.
all i can say to you assholes, it get fucked, get the fuck out of there, and make something, other than a total douche of yourselves. and o.p., if you support them, then you are just as big of a problem as they are.

  9. Again I ask all you critics. How would you like to live in a country where people have never been allowed to protest?

  10. Would that be better or worse than living in a country where people aren’t allowed to criticize those who are allowed to protest.
    Just askin?
Because, even if all we are doing is jerking our egos and feeling good rather than actually doing any good, we’re doing it on our own time and our own dime. The city’s not paying for my electricity and Mayor Tapeworm isn’t responsible for cleaning the aloe residue off of my keyboard. >: 0

As for the OP, – Go Piss Up A Rope. Last time I checked I still had the right to decide who and what pisses me off. I don’t need Kim Jong Wankee-ina-Hankee’s permission

  11. You forgot the blurb about fiat currency.
Other than that you aced the NDP Admission Test. Dexter may have a vacancy for you or aim higher and go for the federal leadership, the list gets longer by the day.

I hear Mr Wiseman had a job interview at a restaurant – good luck to him.

  12. ..prediction: a shit storm brewing when the Israel…umm I mean the Neo-cons..umm i mean the UN bombs Iran over nukes..big trouble

  13. IK – how do you know that the protesters or those that support them don’t think about those things you mentioned? ie) The media’s influence, the ‘brainwashing’, the fact that we have it so good here compared to other places, etc. etc.

Seriously, how do you know they don’t ponder these things? How do you know they are not acting on those pontifications? Have you polled them?

Cos I sure as hell have thought about those things. And I’ll tell you right now that I support the movement. I have pondered long and hard about every little thing that you have written, thanks, and yes, I have also put my words into action.

And IK it irritates me that you’re always posting about how shitty it is in other places so essentially “why the fuck does anyone have the right to complain about things here?”

Maybe your point is why the hell do “the entitled” think they have a right to protest, is that it? Well, everyone has a right to protest.

Yes, it’s extremely annoying that we do live in a society that encourages self-absorption, rampant consumerism, and self-entitlement. It takes work not to get caught up in the game.
And I actually tend to agree with a lot of your comments about personal responsibility.

But for you and others to sit there and say “North America is the 1%” is missing the point. Factually, North Americans are probably closer to less than 1%, but that’s irrelevant because your logic would have us thanking our lucky stars we’re not born in some underdeveloped, corrupt country controlled by a dictator and leave it at that.
I mean, God forbid we strive for anything more than shelter or food, such as justice.

Oh and oops! Not everyone has shelter or food here in Halifax, or NA for that matter, or haven’t you noticed?

    Last point (thank God!!):
I’ve got 2 things to say to all of you bitching and moaning about “your tax dollars” paying for “their electricity”. Give it a fucking rest already. What’s that costing you, like 10 cents each?

And to top it all off, you’re still missing the point. If we lived in an equal and just society, the people would not be protesting, and your precious 10 cents (or whatever) wouldn’t be “wasted”.

    Get a fucking grip already.

  14. Bro Tim – India and China are NOT the real menaces when it comes to the environment.

In fact, per capita they are way, way, way less polluting than Canada is.
So yes, I think we are the real menace when it comes to the environment (as I sit here with the lights on and my laptop plugged in, using my oil-powered furnace…..)
    🙁

  15. Someone’s been reading too many conspiracy theory books. As for Omar, sorry not welcome. Lock him away, far away from Canada.

  16. you can say per capita all you want…
but there’s fucking billions of them compared to the 35 million here.

that’s like 40 odd people in each of India and China for each person in Canada.
    less = less.

That’s like saying some tribe of 30 or 40 people on their own secluded island should be the model for the global going-green movement because the only pollution they emit is from the fire to cook their food.
what the fuck does it matter in the global scope of things?

    canada produces X pollutants.
    china produces X*Y pollutants where Y > 1
    HENCE MORE.

  17. zzz, you’re partially right (your analogy is incorrect or a poor one, IMO). But I never said “we produce more”.

I simply pointed out that China and India are not the real menaces here. Sure, the fact that there’s billions of ’em and their pollution laws are less relaxed than ours
is very, very problematic. It’s real issue, there’s no denying that.

However, I think we’re a bigger menace simply because if one day they decided or one day they were able to use as much resources as we did per person, we’d all be fucked. Not to mention that we’re still doing virtually nothing to actually reduce our levels of pollution. But we expect others to.

So we’re not exactly setting a great example here: “We got rich by polluting the environment (dirty energy, industrialisation) but sorry, we’ve now changed the rules so you guys will just have to suck it up” ….while we sit on our little golden thrones.

I’d say that’s pretty hypocritical, but then again it’s one of the things we do best.

  18. ARE YOU FUCKING WELL SERIOUS KELLY?
Let me make this perfectly clear. I have no sympathy for these spoilt little sanctimonious pricks. I wouldn’t cross a street to piss on them. I wouldn’t trust them to to wank themselves off with a map, a compass and a G.P.S.
But, they have behaved and protested peacefully and within the law up until now. They acted reasonably and in good faith when they agreed to vacate the Grand Parade for the Remembrance Day service. And you have the gall to pick Remembrance Day to shut them down.
YOU FUCKING MORON!. You have just handed them a moral high ground that they in no way deserve, by sinking to an even lower level than them. You have undercut the moderate leadership of this “movement” and given a major boost to the extremist fringe of morons. I hope that every police officer injured in dealing with the filth when they rampage, and every downtown business owner who loses windows and goods, sends their bills to City Hall, addressed to you personally.
Fuck Sake, some stupidity actually IS dangerous. Next election cannot come soon enough.

  19. if you ask me, the occupy protestors have been too unfocused, and unstructured right from the begining. I laughed when someone called them
    ” ADD hippies”

  20. So Kelly double-crosses the occupiers, just shows what kind of man he is. On the lighter side, the Keystone XL pipeline project to the U.S. was postponed. I guess there isn’t quite a market for filthy energy as we thought.

  21. C’mon, really people, who didn’t see this eviction coming. They got them out and you really thought they were going to let them back in? Now who is naive.

  22. Indeed. A friend from Dunder-Mifflin loaned me season 1 of The Walking Dead. And the Countess has decided that she just luuuuuves corned beef hash, which SOBova says is no surprise since it smells like “@#$%ing pet food” to her delicate palate. Just up at Scotia Square for lunch. Boy, girl-nerds have gotten a lot cuter in the last 30 years. >: ( Looked for Agent 195 but saw nowt.

  23. oh boy oh boy, i hope you love it as much as we did, we’re on episode episode three of the second season. the zombies are excellent but it’s no romero plot, it’s not a disneyland dystopian world either…screee

  24. if your gulag cellmate doesn’t provide you with more product, i would be happy to oblige^^

  25. Most people in the local biz who’ve crossed paths with the Great Scaley Lizard-Woman of Can-Lit have at least one anecdote about what an unspeakable human being she is.

  26. Omar Khadr whooped that ass in the fake war! Fuck I’d be pretty angry if a 14 year old kicked my ass when I had all them weapons and Nazi technology.
