When I came to your party with my husband you called me by the wrong name and I politely corrected you. “Actually it’s pronounced _____ it’s so nice to finally meet you.” I thought we hit it off until you started to introduce me to others.

“This is _____ and for God’s sakes don’t mispronounce her name”

“This is _____ and his wife who I like to call Hey You because her name is too long to say.”

“Have you met the Princess of unusual names?”

Really my name isn’t that hard to say. 4 year olds have pronounced it correctly and if you can’t perhaps you could indicate for me to introduce myself. You need Miss Manners and a good speech therapist. —3 syllables & 7 letters shouldn’t be that hard

  1. Quit bitching Ghadafi. What other country was going to offer you asylum? Let alone all the cocktail franks and lukewarm Mateus you could swill. Friggin’ ingrate. Grrrr.

  2. Is it something like Cobranq or Saatchi? or have some apostrophe in it?
surely there’s a one syllable nick-name you could have provided.

  3. OP, you can obviously see why the host of the party acted that way.
From the posts on here, you’ll see a lot of that around this town 🙂 Very well mannered people 😉
I agree with you. That was rude and uncalled for. All you did was correct someone on how to pronounce your name.

  4. I feel for you OB. 5 letters & 2 syllables, people still get it wrong. lol.

Your description of the host reminds me of a scene from Alien Nation (he’s Sykes).
    – Sykes. I’m sure it doesn’t bother you at all that it sounds like “ss’ai k’ss,” two words in my language which mean “excrement” and “cranium.” – shithead.

  5. I can understand OP. I have a two part name, like Mary Ann. I’ve been called so many variations of different two part names. There is one woman in particular who I have worked with in the last two years, who I am beginning to think purposely calls me the wrong name. Both parts are generic english names. We’ve worked on projects together and she still can’t call me by the right name. I’ve nicely corrected her, “actually my name is LA, not BC”. She still doesn’t get it, so I think maybe she just does it to irritate me. I’d even be satisfied if she could call me by the correct first half of my name, just call me L.

  6. must be a polish name, they have 50 constants and nothing else? no one could ever forget my name, it’s lord suckulous to the uninitiated.

  7. I had a Polish teacher back in college and his name had vowels. *shrug*

  8. Definitely a rude, arrogant host, I would have left after the second time she insulted me, purposely or not. Probably would have spilled a glass of red wine on her rug too.

  9. the bear had a guy call him the wrong name every time they met, but it was different each time. his solution was to call him the wrong name…they guy never noticed, he never listened, just waited to speak. so op call her a tard^^you’ll feel better

  10. This host sounds like a complete schmuck! Who turns their inability to comprehend their own language into someone else’s fault? Like people choose their own names at birth anyway! The first insult delivered by this host to me would have left him/her standing around wondering whatever happened to ‘what’s-her-name’? Permanently.

  11. I always question how smart these people are; my wife has a 2-syllable name and people always add a third. But, this is the continent where people say Chicargo and Dee-troy-it, and DARTMUTH (haha just came to me).

  12. If someone intentionally spilled red wine on my rug I’d intentionally spill the same on their shirt.

  13. There is a woman at work with a foreign name…she pronounced it once when I met her and I have pronounced it like her ever since. Everyone else in the office pronounces it with a long ‘e’ sound in the middle, but it should really be a long ‘a’ sound. So anyway, one day I asked her and I was right to copy her. I find it so rude that people listen to her say her name one way and pronounce it their own way. She’s too polite to correct them. They probably think I’m the one who is the wrong, but I want to stage an intervention on them all!

  14. That happens to me all the time too Bawls. I have given up trying to correct people because even when I do they insist on pronouncing my name the way they like and it is a fairly common anglo name.
