I saw a gal “beat up” a guy on SGR earlier this year while some renovations were taking place on a certain mart. It wasn’t so much as a “beating” as much as it was a comedy fest for a few minutes.
After one or so 9-1-1 calls from fight-fans, about 2-3 cars came rushing from a few directions, a couple of beat cops and one on bike! Even a paddy wagon for good measure.
By the time any officer arrived, the “suspect” had already walked away with a friend, got into their car, paid for parking, and drove off peacefully.
Today’s incident happened on the “wrong” side of SGR…

in my neighbourhood, i hear gunshots at least once a week. just last week, for example, a friend of mine was leaving my place, gets in a cab out front… and seconds later BAM! BAM! i hear two gunshots, which were way *too close* for comfort!
i messaged my friend right away to find out if he was ok (he was thankfully), and now i wouldn’t blame him if he never wanted to come back to my area of town again.
i don’t know man, the cops seem a bit too cavalier about all this ‘gun play’ for my liking.
i’m sure of one thing, the more this shit keeps happening, the less people will want to leave their homes at night (or go near their windows for that matter), which of course, makes the streets even more dangerous, because they become deserted.

Tech, charges have been laid in the IWK incident.
Cops still need evidence, identifications, and witness statements, then find the subjects to make arrests and lay charges (this isn’t TV, cases do not get solved in an hour), then the prosecutor has to prove it in court.

To be honest, I think all this jabber about Halifax’s crime spree quite laughable. You people need to travel and get a real idea of how bad society can be. Firing off a hand gun and hitting your target is harder than it looks. Holding the sidearm ‘gangster style’ with knuckles up or goof style, fingers up makes it a lot harder to hit what you are aiming for. I use to laugh at all the bullets fired on TV with no one hit, until I tried shooting a variety of guns myself. When you shoot an automatic hand gun, it is even harder. Burst, 3rounds at a time ain’t to bad, but that is getting into rifles. BTW, assault rifles are on the streets here. Thankfully, the idiots that have those aren’t playing on the streets yet.
Handgun permits are hard to come by nowadays so I doubt most people have *legal* handguns.

I’ve travelled alot and Halifax is definitely the sketchiest place I’ve been to in canada as far as people trying to fight you for no reason in the streets and robbing people for petty shit. I’ve had so many people try to fight me for glancing at them its disgusting.
If you are not happy with the job that the police are doing, step up and offer assistance. I dont think we should be carrying guns, but reporting things is the first step. I will admit that I often turn the other way when shit happens and I usually chalk it up to “not being serious enough to report”, but that is probably how it starts. At what point do we decide that a situation is worthy to report?
