On short winter days, the expansive bank of windows in one of my local cafes provides the best place in town for generous natural light, a sunny sip, an attractive view, and a generally glowing, upbeat atmosphere. (Great coffee, great service, and smart interior too). It has been a welcome break from the lecture hall, lab or dim apartment. However, too often, the entire cafe is transformed most of the day into a suffocating, dark, dismal, sooty, gloomy tech cave because of large, dense black mesh window shades that have been pulled down, seemingly to provide optimum clarity for a handful of dimlit social media victims or other individuals carrying out important “research” on their devices. It discourages a lot of otherwise regular customers. Get it right, bring back the light or stop offering paper copies of the Coast for us to attempt to read in this coffee coal mine. In the fervent hope that you can read this. —Vitamin D starved in Dracula’s Ocean Playground

I’ve found that meeting people is becoming increasingly difficult in an age where people are constantly blocking their sense of hearing and staring at a phone/eReader/tablet until they’ve arrived at their destination.
How are ya supposed to get a new friend to facebook with when everyone is always so damn concerned with their current set of facebook friends?
What came first, the facebook or the friend?
Maybe you should try less fervent hope of them seeing this online, and more in person communication. Seriously how is the irony of your post not hurting your brain right now.

In other words “please raise the blinds”!
Go to a drivethru Tim’s and sit in your car, they probably have better coffee anyway. And way better fresh baked goods.
