Dear Hallowe’en enthusiasts,
There exists a fine line between Hallowe’en spooky and absolute gore. I am not usually one to comment on others creative expression, but I have to say something this year.

I appreciate that you have an enthusiasm for this holiday. I do too.. However, when you are decorating and/or planning your costumes, I really want to encourage you to think about who may see your decor unintentionally.

This year my neighbour decorated their home with hanged figures from her porch. Understanding the spirit of the holiday, I chose to drive around the block rather than drive by it due to the traumatic response it gives me (due to a family member dying this way) but the first time I saw it really threw me into a bad state. Over the past week, I have observed a number of vehicles driving around with fake human limbs hanging out of their trunk… and I had to think that again, while ’tis the season, it’s really not fair to anyone who has been through that reality to have to replay it.

Halloween has always been about ghouls, ghosts and goblins. Add in zombies and vampires if you want – but please PLEASE leave out the realistic human gore for those of us who may unintentionally be traumatized by it. —The friendly witch next door

  1. Well, for fucks sakes. Christmas makes me want to (*trigger warning*) hang myself so can we maybe stop throwing christmas shit up all over the place. Same goes for the music.

    Thanks everyone.

  2. Stay the fuck home if you can’t live in the real (surreal) world. I once saw a bowl of cornflakes dropped on the floor and now I am fearful of all cereal killers.

  3. OB, you can’t have a free society where everyone gets along unless we embrace the concept of tolerance. I am very sorry for your loss. However, your struggle in dealing with it does not justify the restriction of an annual holiday. One of these days, you will get over it and will understand what I am saying. Until then, I wish you the best.

  4. Fuck off. It’s Hallowe’en and not a celebration of the death of your family member. Don’t like it? Don’t look.

  5. Another retail holiday cash grab that I couldn’t care less about. Everyone’s so fucking desensitized these days, who gives a shit if a faux large intestine is falling out of a faux body cavity?

  6. “Hey,look over here at me;the world revolves around my political correct wants and needs! Let’s ban anything that offends Meeeee!”

OB is the kinda shitclown that would have the Governments Nerf the World for the sake of their feelings and bones not getting hurt during their useless existence..
Fack! The world is so full of shitheads like this these days it is getting out of hand.
This is the perfect bitch as an example of what kind of humans are out there who exist to just annoy the fuck out of the rest of society.

    Thanks Bitch!

  7. At least they aren’t complaining about cultural appropriation when it comes to costumes lol.

  8. The only way to get past trauma or fears is to face up to them. Trying to avoid them or expecting the world to never mention them will only make their power over you persist and grow stronger. It’s far better to face up to whatever bothers you. Get counselling if you need it. Talk about it openly so that it eventually loses its power to make you unhappy or afraid.

That’s why I think trigger warnings are well intentioned but misguided. They fit into the category of killing people with kindness. Eventually the person will be unavoidably confronted with whatever bothers them and, having been aided in avoided dealing with it for a long time, they will be overwhelmed. It’s better to help them find a way to deal with their fears or traumas so that eventually they are greatly diminished.

  9. Everybody has issues, about a plethora of things. What makes your issues, issues that others should have to worry about? I’m sorry that you have this particular issue, you have my sympathy, but not my freedom expression.
